Colonial Suit

#327 - Missions and Rumors

Silence reigned within the regeneration pod. An hour later, Blood瞳 emerged.

His complexion was grim, burdened by the ill tidings imparted by the core. [Search for the latest updates at ...] This bloodthirsty impulse wasn't a mere hallucination; it was a psychic affliction common to all Krodir warriors. Upon reaching a certain stage of evolution, this impulse would awaken from within their bloodline, becoming a lifelong companion.

It was a cruel torment. Initially, the bloodlust existed as a subconscious presence, but with each step of the warrior's evolution, it would integrate into their consciousness and spirit, transforming them into emotionless killing machines, craving only blood.

The origin of this impulse remained a mystery, yet it had haunted the Krodir since the dawn of their civilization, wreaking havoc in their nation of survival of the fittest. It was akin to a curse from hell, turning each Krodir into a demon. During its most rampant periods, it spawned hundreds, if not thousands, of these killing machines each year, causing major headaches for the Krodir high command.

These impulse-driven killing machines lacked reason, and once the impulse fully integrated, the warrior would develop self-destructive tendencies, posing a significant threat to the entire civilization. After years of research, the Krodir finally mastered a method to control this impulse.

Suppression!

A bizarre technique allowed them to transplant the impulse into a parasitic host. This host resided within the warrior's body, connected to the bio-armor. It typically drew energy from the bio-armor's energy pool and possessed tenacious vitality, akin to cancer cells. The Krodir referred to this technique as 'Derivation'.

Krodir who underwent Derivation could escape the curse of bloodlust, while also harnessing its power for their own use. This process gradually became a rite of passage for the Krodir, a symbol of their adulthood.

However, the problem was that this technique required a specialized modulation nest, which could not be found easily.

The Krodir civilization had vanished into the vast expanse of the universe. How could Blood瞳 complete 'Derivation'?

Seated in the regeneration center's lounge, Blood瞳 lit a cigarette, lost in thought.

A moment later, the door silently opened. Robbie entered.

"What's wrong?" He noticed the bloodshot eyes and a hint of worry in his voice. "You look terrible."

"I'm fine," Blood瞳 shook his head. "Just a little tired. How's your injury?"

"Just a scratch, already taken care of," Robbie patted his chest. "That guy showed mercy, didn't hit any vital spots."

"..." Blood瞳 fell silent, then said, "He paid the price."

"I heard," Robbie nodded with a smile. "You gave him a good beating. He's still lying in the regeneration pod. But is that okay? That guy has some backing."

"You're not in a much better position, are you?" Blood瞳 looked up at Robbie, a wry smile on his face. "You seem to have taken down even more than I did."

"Hey, don't be so harsh," Robbie shrugged. "It's just that they went too far. I am a loyal servant of my lord. Attacking me was their mistake. I'm just retaliating. Of course, maybe my retaliation was a little intense, but my lord won't blame me."

"Hopefully, your lord can keep the Mercenary Headquarters from blaming you too," Blood瞳 grinned, then pulled out a cigarette and offered it to Robbie. "Want one?"

"Thanks, I'll stick to candy," Robbie waved his hand, popped a candy into his mouth, and sat down next to Blood瞳.

Both were reluctant to speak for a while, until Robbie sighed and said to Blood瞳.

"I went to see the Twins. Their condition is a little strange."

"Oh?"

"They seem to be reminiscing about something. They're not as lively as usual after waking up. Blood瞳, what did you see in their dreams?"

"I can't say," Blood瞳 shook his head, then smiled slightly. "But their condition is temporary. They'll be fine after a while. And this time, they overcame their inner demons, so they should be entering the Meteor rank."

"That's for the best," Robbie smiled as well. He trusted Blood瞳, and if Blood瞳 said so, there must be a reason. The thought of the Twin siblings successfully overcoming their inner demons made him feel much better.

"How do you plan to handle this matter? The Mercenary Headquarters sent people to investigate us, but now they're all lying in regeneration pods. I don't think those old geezers will be polite to us."

"What does it have to do with me?" Blood瞳 shook his head dismissively. He stood up and glanced at the dozen or so unconscious mercenaries on the screen in front of him. He sneered.

"The investigation is just a test of our strength. I think we've proven ourselves enough. As for the aftermath, that's Headquarters' problem."

"You're really not polite," Robbie sighed, but said nothing more.

He didn't know where Blood瞳's confidence came from, but he felt that Blood瞳 was a little too self-assured. But for Blood瞳, this matter was really nothing. With Hec, the great god, around, Blood瞳 felt that the Mercenary Headquarters shouldn't interfere too much.

After dealing with the trivial matters, Blood瞳 and Robbie returned to the Floating Fortress.

The Floating Fortress had been completely renovated and restored to its original appearance. The traces of the previous battle had been completely concealed, as if the battle had never happened. On the top floor of the Floating Fortress, Blood瞳 met with Carrie and Five-O, and apologized for everything that had happened before.

Carrie didn't care about any of this, which made Blood瞳 realize the wealth and generosity of the Romick family. After a brief conversation, they mentioned Blood瞳's domain star, "Sarnick."

After this period of construction, Blood瞳's domain star had completed its initial basic construction, and the rest was the process of migration and improvement. This would take time. Carrie estimated that it would take about half a year. So during this time, Blood瞳 could only stay on Seraridon, and also take on a few tasks for the Romick family.

This was the first time Blood瞳 had received a family task since joining the Romick family. It made him feel fresh. The content of these tasks was not much, but they were all extremely bloody and violent. Two of them were suppression tasks, requiring Blood瞳 to go to a certain star field in the Fifth World and carry out unrestricted strikes against the hostile families in that star field. It would last for a month, with a reward of 120,000 star coins. There was also a conquest task, to conquer a newly explored star field for the Romick family, in order to help the family gain control of the star field. It would last for two months, with a reward of two million star coins.

Looking at these tasks, Blood瞳 felt the undercurrents beneath the calm of the Fifth World. It was clear that Carrie was not content with the peace after gaining power in the Romick family. So she began to expand aggressively, and Blood瞳 was her sharpest sword.

However, Blood瞳, who was already in this line of work, didn't feel any disgust. He unhesitatingly accepted two of the tasks, and then left the Floating Fortress.

The Romick family had helped him enough, and Blood瞳 didn't mind letting Carrie feel that she was getting her money's worth.

In fact, with these tasks, he and his companions would be more closely tied to the Romick family, and gain more assistance.

The preparations for the task were quickly completed. With the support of the Romick family, Blood瞳's entire team underwent a major upgrade. Not only Robbie and the others, but even the exclusive warriors, Giant King Light and Fierce Fang, replaced their armor with the new Fifth World armor. The strength of the entire team was raised by a level. It is worth mentioning that the provision of these equipment came from the Shuke family.

Next, Blood瞳 was ready to set off. But just as they were about to leave Seraridon, Balkro found him.

In Blood瞳's room, Balkro stood expressionlessly, with no trace of his previous cynical attitude.

He quietly looked at Blood瞳, as if he was sizing up a real opponent. The maid, Melly, stood behind him, her beautiful face showing a worried expression.

"You are very strong."

This was Balkro's first sentence. When he said this, his expression twisted slightly. He seemed to have thought of the scene of Blood瞳 beating him up. But the next moment, he returned to calm.

"I lost this time."

"..." Blood瞳 was silent.

"But don't think this is the end," Balkro suddenly raised his head and looked directly into Blood瞳's eyes. "Because you also know that the battlefield this time prevented me from giving my all. So I will come to you again. At that time, I hope you don't disappoint me. Complete the three elements of the Comet rank as soon as possible. Only in this way can you be considered my opponent."

"Three elements?" Blood瞳 was slightly startled, and a strange look flashed in his eyes.

"That's right, the three elements," Balkro nodded seriously. "Mental separation, advanced life characteristics, and destruction skills."

"Losing to you is my shame. I will not forget this day. So next time, I will go all out. If you don't want to die, it's best to master the power of the Comet rank as soon as possible."

"That's it!"

After Balkro finished speaking, he was about to leave the room. But he stopped at the door. He turned his back to Blood瞳 and said in a low voice.

"You have all passed the inspection this time. I will bear all the consequences. Finally, for your companions..."

"I'm sorry."

After speaking, Balkro left without looking back. Behind him, the maid Melly apologized to Blood瞳 and hurried to follow him.

Looking at the disappearing figure, Blood瞳 couldn't help but rub his chin. "This guy is really individual."

But now was not the time to think about him. Blood瞳 only thought for a while before ordering to set off.

The strike shuttle carrying all the companions and exclusive warriors quickly shot into the sky. On the top floor of the Floating Fortress, Carrie narrowed her eyes.

"Now, it's time for the Romick family to rise. Those who stand in our way will pay the price. Don't you think so? Dear?"

"I admire your ambition, baby," Five-O smiled and hugged Carrie in his arms.

The door to the room suddenly opened, and the head butler walked in.

"Miss, rumors are appearing!" (To be continued.)...
