Dead's Requiem

17 Journey Back

Universal Coins: 99

Earning these coins are really hard. Since leaving the residence of the Kinue family, Ernst Haeckel had only killed 39 zombies all by himself. There were a small number of zombies in the region because of the small population. Prior to the apocalypse, the whole population of Nagasaki was just in the 500,000. In the region of Isahaya, there was only a fourth of that number.

Chouji volunteered to stay and take care of the Akiyama and the little girl since he was capable and felt responsible to do so. At the moment, they were using the crashed aircraft as their shelter. Haeckel repaired the essential part of the aircraft and showed the people where the food storage was.

He was currently walking openly along a highway. His destination was the Imperial Grounds. He was wearing a self made suit that was resistant to zombie bites. Or at least, the bites of the teeth would not be able to penetrate the special fabric. The only downside of the suit was that his head was not protected.

This time, he was only holding onto one of his swords. The other one was sheathed on his left waist. He was wearing a black shockproof backpack that contained a never before seen bomb. It was contained inside special glass inside a shockproof container inside another shockproof container.

This bomb was the one created by Haeckel during his stay in the laboratory. The bomb was weird in a way that its components was in a constant state of change. It would form into a sphere and slowly turn into ashes. The ashes would once again turn into a sphere and the cycle would repeat. He was actually able to turn this into a bomb but he only knew that its effect would be devastating but his findings were not conclusive enough.

Roar! A wandering zombie saw Haeckel ran towards him. Killing this zombie would increase his kill count today to 100. With one clean strike, the zombie was decapitated.

"Investing in agility is worth the points." Haeckel smiled.

Name: Yamaha V-Star 250 Cruiser

Price: 100 Universal Coins

Description: This 250cc light-weight motorcycle is great at maneuvering and a great pick for beginners in riding motorcycles. This bad boy only needs to be refilled every 200 miles because a gallon can run up to 78 miles, such efficiency!

A metallic silver bike materialized in front of him and fell down on the floor with a thud. "My bike!"

Haeckel propped up the bike and sat on the seat. The keys were already in the ignition and only awaited for someone to twist it.

"Only 750 miles to go. Let's go." Haeckel twisted the keys.

"Why is it not starting?" Haeckel twisted the keys a few more times and then realized that the bike had no gas.

"***k this ***t." He got off the bike and kicked the wheels. Where was he supposed to find gas? If only he had the equipment to transfer gas from one car to another, he would do it. Well, doing that would cost too much time so looking for a gas station may be better. Coincidentally, there was a gas station but it was about two kilometers away. Haeckel started pushing the motorcycle towards the nearest gas station.

Isahaya, Oasis Gasoline Station

12nn

The gasoline station was a well fortified place. Broken vehicles were used as fortifications by using it to surround the camp. Two cars were compiled onto each other to create a bigger wall. There were only two passageways where the people could come and go. Instead of watchtowers, the guards would use the compiled cars as their outpost.

The people lived in tents and in the storage area of the station. The reason why people were gathered here was because of a certain man. This man was responsible for creating the barricade of cars and as well as protecting those who sought his refuge. By using the supplies in the convenience store, the small group of about thirty survivors was able to survive.

Outside the convenience store, four men were playing poker. Three of them were smoking while the last one, who was wearing sunglasses, was not smoking. A guard from one of the outposts ran towards the group of people. Like all people, the guard had a sword tied to his waist. It was now normal for everyone to have a weapon by their side.

"Boss, there's a man with a motorcycle coming to this place."

"Just do the usual stuff, Okami. You know what to do right?" The man with sunglasses answered.

"Yes sir." The guard ran back to his post while shouting, "Someone's coming!"

Three other guards also ran towards the Southern Entrance. The man pushing a motorcycle was was Ernst Haeckel.

"Stop right there and don't take another step!" Okami brandished his sword along with three other guards.

Haeckel put the stand on and raised his hands up and turned around. "My name is Ernst, Ernst Haeckel and I ain't infected."

Okami checked him out a bit then said, "Follow me."

The guard guided Haeckel inside while being wary. The others followed the stranger with their eyes then resumed their guard duty. The camp was mostly filled with men with a few women who were playing with children.

Haeckel was guided towards the people who were playing poker. "Boss, it's this guy. He said his name was, err, what's your name again?" Okami scratched his head.

"Brothers, my name is Ernst Haeckel." Haeckel bowed while greeting the four men.

Respect is one of the values that the Japanese people are known for. Bowing, or in Japanese 'ojigi,' is one of the main ways of showing respect to other people. One of the reasons why people bow is because it shows that they are thankful for the person's interaction with them.

The four men who saw the European stranger also bowed as a show of respect. The person with the sunglasses removed his sunglasses and stared for a short while at the stranger in front of him.

"So, you're the Ernst Haeckel huh? Did the Royal Family send you out?"
