Demon Emperor Prodigy System
Chapter 16:True blacksmith and a phony
Authors note: This chapter is mostly filler for the first 450 words. Sorry. Afterwards, a new character is introduced. Filler is done mostly for world-building. After the character reaches the age of 3, there will be more action. I am using the younger years to develop the world the main character finds himself in. Hopefully, my readers can understand. Thank you for reading so far.
"It is pretty shocking to walk past a store filled with technological trinkets and then realise it is located next to a store selling weapons and armour," Lucifer had commented on the sight in front of him.
Azbeth practically finished buying everything she was after, so Lucifer was free to roam around again.
"Hm, where to begin", he thought as his eyes had met with a banner of a store selling armour. "I might not know much about how good armour is, but it does not hurt to have a look at what is available for sale", he thought.
As Lucifer entered the store, he was welcomed by the sight of flashy and impractical armour. Instead, he needed flexible armour for flexibility and the full utilisation of his swordsmanship.
"The armour seems well crafted", he said to himself as he walked by the various sets on display. "The problem is that different people desire different types of armour, and it seems that this store focuses on mostly flashy armour for brawlers or, more likely high damage tankers, which is far from what I require."
"Maybe they have some sma..." Lucifer was stopped in his thoughts as an older gentleman approached him.
"Are you lost, boy?" Older Gentleman said.
"Looking at him, I can tell he is the owner of the store, a suit, moustache and a look of someone who likes money in his eyes."
"Oh, my apologies, sir. I have been trying to find a decent set of armour for practice."
"You found yourself in the right place then, young boy; this store is known for its high-end armour sets made from high-end materials. Are your parents nearby, or have you visited from the academy?" the older Gentleman has enquired.
"Does he take me for a fool, even if I do not know enough about this world to know how good an armour set is just by looking at it. Just with pure deduction, I can tell what kind of store it is. We had plenty of people who opened stores like these with flashy looking armour made from low-quality materials that look study but is not in reality in my previous life. These stores led to many deaths of young people who overestimated the quality of their purchased armour."
The daggers my father had ordered to be made for me that regulate their weight were produced only using two intermediate beast crystals.
"I am after an advanced or king tier set of armour. I am from one of the seven branches and brought platinum coins with me." So Lucifer had stated and showed one of the platinum coins.
"Oh great, I will show you the sets of Advanced tier armour available for sale." The man had flatly stated with a blank expression.
He continued while pointing at a pure black set with a few crimson accents, "This is one of the most popular sets we have available it is made from advanced beast crystals and wyvern scales."
"Is it okay if I check the durability?" Lucifer asked the man.
"Of course, would you like to try it on?" The man asked.
"Yes, if that is not a problem?"
Lucifer tried on the armour, and it was really well made; it was comfortable and even well-fitting, but there was a lack of flexibility, and the materials did not seem to be that high quality.
"System, how rare are wyverns?" He asked.
"Wyverns are rare high emperor tier creatures highly sought after," the system responded.
"Is there any easily accessible replacement for wyvern scales?" He further questioned.
"Scales of Giant river snakes and lake lizards are known as suitable scale materials for armour but are not often used for higher-end equipment because of the low durability due to giant snakes only being intermediate tier beasts and lake lizards only basic tier beasts."
Lucifer considered what the system had said to him and asked the seller in front of him, "what is the price for this set of armour?"
The man answered, "due to the high quality of the materials, the cost would be 10 platinum coins."
"I see even among demons; there are those attempting exploitation in times of conflict for self-gain." "I will inform my brothers when I come back from the market."
Lucifer thought about everything and replied, "thank you for the offer, but I never make rush decisions. I will have to see what other stores have to offer first."
"Before hearing his reply, I honestly could not care less at this point." Lucifer had decided he was done with this store. He was disappointed as he had high hopes for the store and how it presented itself as a high-end store.
Lucifer continued to browse different stores until he came across a smithy built with a mix of modern and old technology.
He was mesmerised by the display in front of him; the blacksmith was working on a weapon, and there was a lazily thrown together display of armour pieces and weapons—a stark contrast to the store from before.
"It made me reminisce of the old times when I used to spend time with Gardolf, a blacksmith, one of the few people who did not betray me."
As Lucifer was reminiscing, he was interrupted; "You are you interested in buying? If not, then don't disturb me and scram!" The blacksmith exclaimed.
"Oh yes, just what I missed, the unapologetic honesty of a real blacksmith."
"Is it fine if I have a look at what you have for sale," Lucifer enquired.
"It is not like I made it for me to keep," the blacksmith stated as he continued to hammer away.
"Let's see what we have here," Lucifer thought before starting to inspect the area where most of the wears have been placed.
Upon inspection, Lucifer deducted, "these are not flashy, but instead the focus seems to have been placed on the build quality and providing functionality over the looks.
After a while, Lucifer picked out:
a set of black daggers
a set of shoulder guards
a chest plate that nicely co links to the shoulder guards
a pair of gauntlets with sharp claws but still capable of holding weapons
a spiked shield
a cape with the effect of making it easier to blend into the darkness
a set of clawed gauntlet attachments.
"I have picked out everything that caught my eye; how much would you like for everything?" Lucifer asked the blacksmith. I think these pieces have been crafted with practicality in mind, and I can see the hard work that went behind crafting each of them.
"It is primarily leftover stock and mainly at the intermediate tier. I can offer everything for 2 platinum coins and 5 gold coins, and you can have the lot. I will even throw in a set of wolf boots for free because I'm feeling nice," the blacksmith stated.
"Well, I did not expect to feel so nostalgic," Lucifer thought. "It will be a while since I can find pieces that will fit my current body other than having something custom made, so it is worth it, in my opinion."
In response to the old blacksmith, he stated, "so do you have a name, sir? Also, I will be more than happy to pay the 2 platinum coins and the 5 gold ones for these pieces."
"My name is Heraph, the best god damn blacksmith you will ever meet, kid," he replied.
"Okay, Heraph, sir, here is the payment," he said as he outstretched his hand with the payment.
Heraph accepted the payment and allowed Lucifer to start putting everything into his dimensional storage necklace.
"Well, thank you, Heraph," he said as he was ready to leave.
"Kid, it has been a while since someone appreciated my work; take this with you as well", he said as he passed a black shortsword with a golden and crimson red handle to Lucifer. "Also, what is your name, kid?" Heraph questioned, intrigued.
"No point in hiding it from this old blacksmith", Lucifer thought and responded. "The name is Lucifer. I will definitely return when I have the chance. Thank you and Bye, Heraph."
Heraph thought to himself, "wasn't the new son of the king called Lucifer? But, never mind, I need to humble myself; why would the kings' son buy items from me, of all people."
Lucifer left the smithy quite happy with himself a bunch of new items he can use for the next few years and with 1 platinum coin and 4 gold ones remaining.
As he continued to walk through the plaza, he came across stores with communication devices, stores with potions improving ones mana centre, various beast crystals even beast crystals containing the beasts' willpower, allowing for a chance to unlock its ability. There were even stores with beast eggs, stores with ways to improve abilities, and even stores focused on obtaining abilities.
After Lucifer had decided against buying anything else as he already had his daily sessions with Talia focused on mana absorption so he should be fine when it comes to that.
"Well, time to find mom and see if it is time to come back" Lucifer decided to head to the section of the Plaza where he expected her to be.
As Lucifer approached the direction of the Plaza where he expected his mother to be, he saw her waving him over.
As Lucifer came close, she stated, "I have everything I was after." After she asked, "Are you ready to return?"
"Yes, I am ready to return. I found what I was after as well", he replied.
At this point, the journey came to an end, and the duo returned to the castle in the carriage—both happy with everything they achieved that day. Azbeth was able to have some peace of mind and Lucifer got himself some new armour and weapons.
