Demon Emperor Prodigy System
Chapter 15:The Marketplace: Two Blades and a New Friend
"The view from the windows is quite shocking; the land is green and bright, quite the opposite of the one from my previous life." "In my previous life, the lands were dead, burned and ravaged by years of conflict. Is that how they looked before the war began?" Lucifer began questioning the possibility of humans causing the poor state of the demon kingdom over time.
"The land is filled with people smiling; the farmland seems pretty fertile with good crops growing, but that is not really surprising considering everyone has access to abilities and, at worst, a natural affinity from basic mana control since everyone has access to mana." Next, Lucifer began observing the outside world.
"The land is not only fertile, but if not for the overhead threat of war with other nations, the people living on the land could continue to lead peaceful and happy lives. It kind of reminds me of countrymen back in my life as a knight; they were tough on the outside but caring and soft on the inside while living off of the land."
Azbeth interrupted her son, "it is your first time travelling outside, is it not? With everything going on in the kingdom, I have forgotten to show you the kingdom you will most likely rule over one day."
Lucifer looked at his mother, "it is but do not worry mom, I am just happy to be going with you," he responded but thought in his mind, "I can not wait to turn 14 already and drop having to act like a child" (Demon children do grow faster mentally and physically so at least he did not have to act like an infant for long).
"Do you like the view?" she questioned.
"Yes, if only it could stay that way", Lucifer responded without thinking.
"Don't worry, I know your dad might have been taught on you, but he has a lot on his mind and is trying to do everything to protect the kingdom."
"I know it's just not fair. Why do we have to be the ones prosecuted by other nations," he rebutted.
"Do not worry; your father is doing his best so that we do not have to worry about such things," she responded.
After that, there seemed like there was no response that could be given to continue the dialogue further.
"Focused on further looking at the surrounding nature of the kingdom and its people, and before I knew it, I started to see the brick stone making up the entrance to the Market Plaza."
"As the carriage started to approach the parking area slowly and as the carriage slowly came to a halt, I could not hide my excitement to see the new world that I had found myself in." Lucifer thought as he waited to leave the carriage.
The car driver approached and opened the door, after which he stated, "we have reached the definition."
"Thank you", lady Azbeth replied.
"Soon after the door opened, after stepping out of the carriage, I was welcomed by the warm shining rays of the sun. There was so much to see, and the uniqueness of the plaza was outstanding," Lucifer excitedly thought to himself.
"Of course, there is so much I want to see", Lucifer stated before beginning to examine his surroundings.
"It is pretty fascinating; it seems there is a mix of more modern architecture and more ancient or old-timey one. The buildings are mostly quite well built tall, standing singular stores or even combined businesses. Some are constructed from steel-like material with bluish crystal accents, possibly some sort of automatic barrier or protection. The other less futuristic buildings seem to be built from solid brick, or just appears to be solid concrete with a few tiny artificial beast crystals near the entrance doors."
Lucifer continued, "other than the stores, within buildings, there were also stands selling different beast crystals, weapons, household items, and some even offered some of the lesser artefacts. The stands were within a big circle located in the middle of the plaza formed from gemstones and nicely laid out marble and black solid crystallised bricks."
Lucifer continued with his thoughts, "the stands are pretty standard tables but as far as I can see, the material they are made out of seems really solid, and like it was made specifically to carry heavy loads, it is rather interesting." "The items on the tables varied from new to used, with some of the more interesting being young blacksmiths trying to sell their work. As well as some people were trying to sell tools, they have created, and some even naming their creations magical tools since they were related to operating mana and quite often utilising an element to the advantage of the device." Lucifer concluded his thoughts and followed his mother.
"What do you think of the market? Does it seem exciting," Azbeth asked as they began walking towards a store.
Lucifer nodded and noticed a prominent building in the distance for a second awestruck as other than the castle and its surrounded buildings; he had not been able to see a comparably big building. He asked, "what is that building in the distance."
Azbeth, as a matter of factly, stated, "that is the academy that young demons attend between the ages of 3 and 16 to learn of abilities, mana natures as well as common knowledge and more, but as the descendants of the demon king and the demon lords are most of the time born stronger than other demons. The child's strength is related to their mana centres and how well they can develop their abilities, which is directly correlated to how strong the child's father is. There are more factors involved, but simply speaking, as they are born much stronger than others, their development requires special care so that their potential is not wasted."
"Is that not unfair towards those possibly highly talented within the academy?" Lucifer had rebutted the statement questioning possible favouritism.
"Within the students from the first two years, there are scouts sent to the academy focused on finding those with possible talent and bringing them for training within the walls of the Royal Castle or under the direct supervision of the lords or their direct descendants. We try to hone young talent as a nation. Your father is very proud of that as he and I initially met in the academy along with Talia. The strength he obtained was from his hard work as he was only an orphan with his father dying in a conflict with the humans and his mother dying from a plague." Azbeth concluded her statement. At times she felt odd around her son. He was comforting when need be, but he also sometimes seemed to have higher comprehension than average, even for a demon.
They both continued to walk around the market to shop and browse for random items Azbeth was after until stopping by an older man who was selling two sheathed swords within black scabbards. Still, no one seemed interested as most people were after impressive powerful-looking weapons.
"Can I go and see the blades while you continue browsing?" Lucifer asked.
Azbeth knowing that fellow demons are pretty friendly and it is pretty safe, stated, "That should be fine; just do not wander too far away from where I am."
As Lucifer approached the older man, he started wondering to himself.
"These weapons seemed to be quite elegant from their shape and the quality of the sheath." Lucifer continued to look at the weapons and asked the older man if he could see them closer. The older man seemed quite shocked as no one seemed too interested other than this child. He hesitated for a second before passing one of the sheathed swords to the young boy.
"Just be careful; it is an actual blade, not a practice one," the older man stated.
Lucifer tried to open the blade, but it did not seem to work, so he decided to utilise mana body rotation and focus one of his centres on the fire element and the other on the nature element ability release.
"Success," he thought as a crystal-like crimson blade welcomed him. "This blade is highly impressive; it seems even better than the weapons both his brothers have used." "The blade seemed elegant and powerful as if it could slide through the reality itself." Lucifer was stuck within his thoughts as he felt a hand on his shoulder.
It seemed to be a student from the academy; he asked how much for the pair of blades. The older man replied that Lucifer was first in line.
"I will definitely be interested in purchasing both the blades, sir, if possible. I feel as if these are more than just blades but works of art and an extension of ones swordsmanship itself."
The older man looked at Lucifer and said, "one gold coin is fine."
The demon academy student said, "I can do double or triple that amount."
Lucifer walked towards the older man and stated, "I would not feel in the right only paying one gold coin for these magnificent blades." He stepped closer and put a platinum coin in the older man's hand.
The older man handed Lucifer the second blade and stated, "you seem like a nice young man; hopefully, these blades serve you well."
Lucifer gave a small bow to the older man and responded, "thank you I will cherish these works of art."
Lucifer placed the first blade in a dimensional storage necklace and proceeded to unsheath the second blade.
The only sound that escaped his mouth was a "wow", as the blade was different. It was a crystal-like teal ice crystal looking blade.
"Both blades looked similar to a blend of a classic katana that did not have a tsuba and a Chinese straight sword. Even though there was no handle and the scabbard was a perfect fit for the blade and seemed to be made of durable material, the sword felt elegant and like a work of art." Lucifer stated in his mind.
The student from the academy began walking away, kind of disappointed.
Lucifer knowing his mom had many other things to look for, asked the boy what his name was.
"My name is Apollos from the 3rd branch of the kingdom. What about yourself?" The boy enquired.
There were seven branches of the kingdom, each representing a sin, with the king always representing the pride sin. Still, the other six branches were pretty stable, with the symbol being just a symbol, and it did not require the owner of the symbol to join the specific branch. However, it would still usually be done through marriage as customary. It would never be forced.
"I'm actually from the 7th branch, but I can't disclose who I am, but feel free to call me Arthur. Since you missed out on the blades, I thought I could get you something to drink, maybe cheer you up a little bit." Lucifer stated matter of factly.
Apollos responded, "I have to go, but over the wintertime, all students return to their families, and I will be back to the 3rd branch mansion; feel free to contact me then, and you can treat me to something. See ya." Apollos waved as he ran back to the academy.
"The third branch was close to the 7th branch; it was the one master Talia was from, after all." Lucifer was thinking about how only those close to the lord or a direct descendent would live in the 3rd branch mansion.
"I will have to ask my mother why someone living in the 3rd branch mansion would leave to learn at the academy instead of living and learning from the lord or the direct pupilage of the 3rd branch."
"I am quite happy I had the money on hand." Lucifer thought to himself as he remembered that his father handed him five platinum coins and mentioned getting himself whatever he needed from the market before returning. As getting himself something that catches his eye might be more interesting than just having it made to order at the castle.
At the same time, his father was wise, and he did not go overboard with spoiling his son.
Lucifer remembered the values of money as
1 platinum coin is equal to 10
1 gold coin is equal to 100
1 silver coin is equal to 100

Lucifer decided to have a look around the other stalls before buying anything else. Still, he could not figure out if anything were worth buying since he mainly was only knowledgeable on swords with no ability to determine the innate traits of armour at first glance. For example, hidden skills were difficult to figure out. For now, he decided to refrain from buying anything other than a pretty interesting mask that could alter his voice. "Something like this can come in handy, he thought." Moreover, Lucifer was thinking of a cool memento since he planned to learn the appearance altering skill similar to his mothers in the future anyway, so he did not need to hide behind a mask.
After a while, he found his mother and informed her, "There was not much of anything that caught my eye, and I would rather keep the money and invest in getting something more useful in the future when I can recognise the value items better." Lucifer stated, looking at his mother.
Azbeth commented that "when Iblis and Orcust first went to the market, Iblis spent all his money on materials to enhance his abilities and Orcust on armour and weapons it brings back memories."
"So what were you after," Lucifer had enquired.
"Mostly items for the new baby that is on the way. I prefer to go out and buy it myself; it also allows for a breath of fresh air away from the castle." "Did you enjoy yourself so far?" She asked.
"Yes, it was quite nice seeing more of the world, mom." He had replied.
As he had said he enjoyed the trip so far, they began walking through the market to see further what might be available in the stores rather than just the personal stands of vendors selling their goods.
