Demon Emperor Prodigy System

Chapter 6:Prologue: Downfall of a Great Prince

As blood was falling to the ground beneath his feet and his consciousness was fading, Prince Arthur felt intense pain and a sense of extreme sadness. Those that impaled him with their weapons were not only his family and allies but also those he swore to protect and had often put his own life on the line for their sake. Since his youth, Arthur trained and did his best to protect the kingdom, its people, his family and those he called allies, as he never wished to feel the sense of helplessness he had felt after his death in his previous life.

After defeating the Demon Lord and bringing the kingdom to its golden age through his own effort and perseverance, Arthur was betrayed by those closest to him. He was an obstacle so significant to those around him in times of peace that if he wished to become the king, no one would argue. After all, he was selfless, beloved by the citizens, knights, and even the representatives of other kingdoms.

He was powerful but also intelligent, utilising the knowledge of modern society from his previous life to his advantage. As a result, his siblings and allies betrayed him as even though he did his best and cared for them and always did what was best for everyone else; they always felt resentment for him as they only had seen his strength and wisdom. They never focused on the time he spent researching how to get stronger and the time he spent sharpening his swordsmanship. At the same time, they celebrated "their" victories achieved purely by the effort he exerted. They decided to betray him and kill him. As he realised what they planned, he didn't even resist as he was pierced 14 times through his torso.

As his consciousness was fading, all he could muster to whisper through his bloodied lips was "why" with oxygen escaping his collapsing lugs. He knew he could speak no further, but with what strength he had left, the Prince still stood tall, but he knew he did not have much time left. All he wanted was a better future for the kingdom and its people. Deep down, he knew that with him gone, the chances of that happening were slim as his siblings brought upon in wealth and power, cared little for others and would never manage to be wise and selfless rulers.

As Arthur finally lost strength in his legs and had fallen to the ground, his brother kicked his body to the side, and while placing his foot on Arthurs back; he said, "because you were always in the way thinking you were better than us, but we knew we could use you and betray you and stab that soft heart of yours and you wouldn't even put up a fight". Arthurs sister chimed in, "someone so close to commoners could never become a king and rule over this kingdom". As Arthur heard those words, he knew his work was for nothing, and those he protected will be the downfall of the kingdom. A failure caused by his own foolishness. That realisation stayed with him as his life faded away, and he was no more but a memory that stained the hands of those that betrayed him.

Dying for a second time, betrayed by those closest to him, he felt sadness but also resentment. He bloodied his hands and spent his whole life pushing himself for no reason, conquering kingdoms of humans, elves, and other races just to be betrayed by those closest to him and for the tyrannical rule of his siblings to be the legacy he leaves behind. As Arthur was surrounded by darkness, what could be described as a holographic screen appeared before him with a simple message "You met the requirements to pass the tutorial"; "would you like to accept your rewards and proceed"? Arthur looked at the screen, baffled; it was similar to games he used to play when he attended university back when he was just John, a regular human, but now did he have anything to lose by simply accepting the unknown? He scoffed at the scene, knowing he probably does not have much of a choice as he saw a timer appear counting down.
