Devourer Class

Chapter 86 - Second Class (1)

[ Do You Wish to Unlock an Additional Class? ]

Surprisingly, Galahad passed on the offer.

'Alright, it really does seem like the orb was telling me I was going to unlock another class. Well it's not like I need to immediately level up or choose summoner at this instant. Actually, I should wait and let Regin watch this happen. The fact that this orb can suppress a level up will certainly peak his curiosity.

Plus he'll get pissed if I didn't show him what might be the first time for someone to unlock two classes in history.'

Galahad briefly got up and peaked through the side alley, finding none of the guild members or phantoms were on the street. Only time would tell when the lockdown would release, so he decided to wait for the crowds to start walking out instead of moving.

Time slowly passed with Galahad sitting between the buildings with his back against the wall. A light rumble beneath him told him the dungeon reset, but it was doubtful anyone could rise to the surface via teleportation. Lockdowns weren't just notifications sent out to keep people indoors, it was a warning for the adventurers still below the surface, letting them know that the Return crystal platform was shut off.

For some people, it was no big deal, but it also meant that others trapped in collapsing tunnels needed to run instead of teleport.

Galahad had never experienced a lockdown in Teramore before and had no idea how the adventurers still dungeon hunting were fairing; it wasn't his problem, so he didn't think too much about it.

Instead, He waited with Karmic plate in hand; he could have sent scry messages with his mind, but typing felt more natural.

He was sending a scry back and forth with Terra, who had been messaging him most of the night. She knew Galahad had been outside during the lock down and he only just now started replying so she wouldn't freak out.

[ T: Did you make it back to your house? ]

[ G: No, currently sitting in some angry guy's forge, waiting to go home. ]

[ T: Well I'm just glad you're alright. You could have have at least asked if I made it home safely too ya know. ]

[ G: Sorry . . . Well, did you? ]

[ T: Yeah, I made it back home about ten minutes before the notification went. Dobu was shivering in his cage when the bells started ringing. ]

[ G: Strange, must have been the roaming monsters that scared him. I still think 'Sparky Yellow Turd' would have been a better name for him. ]

[ T: Stop bringing up that name, it's mean >:( ]

[ G: Alright fine, I'm going to sleep. I'll be working most the week, but let me know if you need more help with the big project. You'll owe me more dinner, plus some sweet oat cookies. ]

[ T: Deal, stay safe. ]

'Heh, I think the only thing that wasn't a lie was the turd message. Hardly feels like I'm lying these days and could end up slipping, hopefully they won't come back to bite me in the a.s.s.'

Of course all his lies and deceit would one day catch up to him, but that didn't matter now. Galahad stood up and swept the dirt off his armored pants and grabbed the helmet laying beside him. It seemed like the lockdown would lift at any second, so he gathered himself up to join the masses waiting to leave.

'I'll figure out how to return this later, I just need to go home and try to sleep at least a few hours before-'

Galahad's train of thought was derailed by a lurching motion at his shoulders, launching him high above the buildings and into the night sky. The change of elevation was so sudden and out of nowhere that he didn't even have time to let out a word, let alone a shout of surprise.

The shock of flying into the night didn't get a chance to set in, as it was quickly taken over by a burning sensation across his back. It started as two burning clamps around his shoulders and starting flowing like it was in his blood, spreading throughout his body in rapid waves of pain.

He turned his head back to see just what the hell was happening; in return, the phantom carrying him screamed right at his face with a demented look of pain.

A phantom might not have had the ability to process any regular information like a human or beast, but its instincts knew how feed and survive. Once it finally caught the soul bound prey while it was stopped, it started flying straight into the sky.

The only place where it could be secluded from interference by other prey was up, so that's where it took its meal. Explaining why Galahad was reliving a more painful experience of flying like he did in the woods with Solteer.

Though briefly assessing his predicament, Galahad couldn't figure out a way to escape the clutches of the phantom, all he could do was feel the life and magic getting drained out of his body. Because even if he did find a way to get the creature to release, He was now twenty feet above the tallest building. The only way out was death or a miracle.

It seemed the gods compromised and gave him something in the middle.

A lightning bolt thicker than a human arm shot from the city streets, hit and then erasing the phantom with a flashy light show of electrical sparks.

On the ground, a guild magician was grinning beneath her helmet. She had been wielding a magic staff like a gun barrel most of the night had managed to snipe a few of the monsters wandering close to the streets. The last shot she had just made was more than just a few blocks over, so she was surprised she managed to hit such a distance, making her proud of her marksmanship.

After spending nearly an hour that night, picking off the monsters floating around the streets, she was glad to see the last one decided to fly straight into the air. She hardly felt any hesitation when firing the magic weapon's spell, despite spotting a human figure clearly being carried by the phantom.

'No point in regretting their loss, walking outside like a dumbass was their own fault. Plus it was either die by rapid mummification or instantly hitting the pavement.'

She stood up and started walking back to the guild office to return the weapon.

'I bet they would have preferred the quicker death anyway.' She didn't seemed too fazed and kept walking.

She wouldn't admit it, but it did bother her to some extent. That was why she refused to watch the stranger plummet to their death; which was fortune for Galahad, as his last resort would certainly have made her question what was going on that night.

He unlocked his newest class in hope that it could help survive a fall.
