Devourer Class

Chapter 87 - Second Class (2)

Galahad didn't have much time to understand who or what killed the phantom, he was more preoccupied with the result. Him plummeting straight down to the ground with no way of stopping.

He wasn't going to luck out again with a giant magical bird swooping in to save him this time, not unless his could instantly learn how to summon and it could conveniently fly.

'I have two chances.' He rapidly thought as the ground was getting ever so closer.

'Creation class is not gonna save my a.s.s and I am all out of Chi; which means I can choose summoner and hope it instantly works into getting me a flying creature, or hope my experience with magic will give me a chance to survive as a magician.'

[ Do You Wish to Unlock an Additional Class? ] popped up in the center of his view as soon as he willed it.

'Yes, and hurry.' Galahad thought.

[ Choose an Available Class to Unlock. ]

[ Creation Class ]

[ Magician Class ]

[ Summoner Class ]

All three were just sitting there, waiting to be chosen. Galahad almost accepted summoner instantly, but recalling the words of the black orb was making his choice rather hesitant.

'Do choose your next class more carefully.' Echoed in the back of his mind.

Without wanting to waste an instant of time, Galahad bit his tongue and chose, hoping he wasn't going to regret this.

[ Magician Class selected ]

"F.u.c.k it, just hurry it up!" Was his loud response into the roaring wind.

[ Commencing Class Assembly and Resuming Leveling Process. ]

Of course, that was it. He was done for. It took nearly a minute for the Spartan class to start up in the rift, so only the devils of the dungeon could tell when this class would be done.

[ Mana level Indicators revealed ]

Galahad was too busy falling hands and face first toward the cobblestone streets to read it. Nothing was saving him from a fall this big, no matter how much he willed it to happen. His body started lighting up, he could feel the swelling force of the new class wanting to break out of his skin, ready to release sparks from his soon-to-be dead body.

At that moment, Galahad thought he was truly going to die. A brief flash of his family and friends went through his mind before he shut his eyes, flinching at the ground.

He felt a heavy force explode around his body and everything faded to black.

*****

'Am I dead?' Was the first thing Galahad thought.

He immediately discouraged the thought as the pain across his body was far too real for someone who had just died.

The burns from the phantom were still pulsating along his back and now every other part of his body felt like he was bashed in by a boulder.

The pressure against his side told him he was laying down on the ground, dr.a.p.ed across the floor with no recollection of the impact.

After slowly regaining consciousness, Galahad tried to move and happily discovered he could control his fingers, at least the few that weren't dislocated. The heavy and burning wheeze coming out of his mouth indicated some fractured ribs and internal bruising as well.

The pain was a good thing, its constant sensation reminded him that he wasn't leaning towards death. He just didn't have any idea on how that happened.

'If I can move, then hopefully I can get somewhere not filled with guild officers and instead mana orbs. Just gotta figure out where I am.'

The final step to assessing his situation came to seeing what happened to him laying there alive; Galahad managed to open one of his eyes as the other was swollen shut. He was surprised with what he saw.

Every inch of his view was flooded with way too much bright and shining information. It was one thing to wake with the sun in his eyes, he could simply turn his head and wait for his pupils to dilated, but then it was another thing entirely when the light was coming from everything in view.

The world was an insane concentration of colorful lights and haziness through his eyes. Galahad had no idea why this was happening and could only assume it was one of two things.

'I either finally hit my head hard enough to damage of part of my brain, or I just got some kind of new ability along with my class.'

When he shut his good eye and looked at the bottom left corner, the timer for the unique mimic he consumed still counted down.

[ 2:15:38 ]

'Ok, it hasn't even been an hour and nobody has found me, which means anyone who saw me take a nose dive probably think I'm dead. The real question is why am I not dead?'

After blinking away the haziness, Galahad finally saw the night sky. He was staring at it through a gaping hole in a shabby looking roof. Through the colorful lights, the visibility was good enough to distinguish some of the items around.

To his right was a pile of rotting ropes and cracked open barrels. To the left was a dust-coated tarp that would have been a much comfier landing pad than the solid, wooden floor. It only took a few seconds before Galahad realized where he was.

Apparently, the fatal fall transitioned from landing on pavement; to crash landing into an abandoned warehouse at the edge of where the market district ring met with the housing. Somehow it all happened in the small amount of time before blacking out during the fall.

'Maybe the black orb took care of it. At this point I don't even care, that little f.u.c.ker can save me or turn me into some monster, I just need one goddamn night where I don't nearly die from strange shit.'

After repeatedly grunting and wincing at the pain, Galahad managed to stand up and find his way to the nearest door labelled as exit. He then yelled multiple curses into the night as he found himself on the fifth floor stairwell, needing to walk all the way down with his limp getting worse with each step

He hobbled down the stairwell and heard voices overlapping on outside. Seemed the lockdown had finally lifted while he was unconscious, giving him the opportunity to finally go home. Too bad he was now over an hour in walking distance from his home, and based on the clock in his top right corner, he'd get about an hour of sleep before having to walk from home to work.

"You know what, f.u.c.k it. I'm gonna pull a page from Regin's book and go get a drink."
