Dream Life - Life in the Other World of Dreams
Episode XVII: Finding a Home
After the exam process and explanation, me and Sharon joined the Liddies.
"Looks like you've successfully completed the process. So let's go find a house."
Liddy's fine, starts walking, but Sharon, who was behind me, pulls his sleeve.
When I look back,
"Um... will it be okay if I don't study? Others seem desperate..."
Sharon has complained to me like that with an anxious face.
"Right. Sure looks like the rest of them are desperate. But I don't think it's worth studying now. Liddy's pushing his heartbeat. You just have to believe that and do as you normally do."
Even when I said that, he still seemed anxious.
I hold her hand and start walking like a pull.
"It's okay. Can't you believe me? Let's think about what kind of place you want to live."
At first it was Sharon, who was walking like he was being pulled over, but his expression gradually became brighter when he started talking about the house.
Return to the new town and head to the commercial guild to get a referral to the realtor.
In addition to servicing merchants, commercial guilds also serve ordinary customers. There was an introduction to the city's shops.
Talking about the situation in a commercial guild, one realtor was introduced. We had the guild reference and headed to a real estate agent named McCloud, near the main entrance to the old town.
Our request is to be close to the old town, close to the water, and safe.
McCloud Real Estate had many properties near the heart of the new town, matching the condition of proximity to the old town, the primary condition.
McCloud Real Estate was located two or three minutes from the main entrance of the old town and was quickly found because of a large sign.
Once inside, a clerk-like woman who heard the doorbell immediately appeared and asked for an errand.
Liddy will talk to the clerk about the matter.
"I'm looking for a house to rent. The duration of the contract is five years. There are three or four of us living there, so it doesn't have to be that big a house..."
The female clerk takes a polite note of Liddy's terms of speaking and goes into the back of the store, "Please wait a moment". Soon a man of about fifty years of age will show up with a good posture and good taste.
"My name is Douglas McCloud. I heard you were looking for a home."
When Liddy nodded, "Yes,"
"We've reviewed some of the properties in the conditions you asked for, and we'll show you to the site"
I was uncomfortable with the fact that a gentleman who looked like a good product was a realtor.
(Don't be too classy for a realtor in this world with no laws in place. Just the way I saw it, I think I'm going to snort when they say I'm a butler in a noble or rich mansion. Regardless of Japan or the developed world, you should need to harshly take it away from the rent delinquents or kick it out with your clothes stripped... do you have a back face?
Home is a direct link to life, life. If you are evicted for defaulting on your rent, not only will you lose your place to live, but you will also lose assets such as household belongings that are in your home, and if you are evicted in the middle of winter, that alone puts your life at risk. If the laws were in place, we would be able to avoid them to the point of endangering our lives, but I don't think the laws are so well in place.
So the delinquent side will try to get them to wait for payment by all means, and the real estate agent will do the opposite by pretty hard means. Naturally, the other side will resist, and worst of all, it can be fixed. When that happens, the only thing I can do is kick you out.
(Or is it also a weird condition that if you defaulted on your rent, you would be enslaved or something?
While I was thinking about it, Liddy was still talking to McCloud.
"... then I'll show you a few houses"
Apparently, I'm supposed to go check on the property, and I'm following Liddy, too.
Guy pierced his faceless expression and hasn't spoken a word.
Apparently, he's trying to make us recognize him as an escort so he doesn't talk.
The first house was a wooden two-story house on a triangular roof about five minutes from the main entrance.
The building itself is quite old but built on a site of about 10m x 15m with a small but garden behind it.
On the ground floor there was a kitchen, a living room and a toilet, which was a simple water wash with a direct connection to the sewer. In addition, there was a laundry room with drainage facilities that could be used in the bathroom.
The fact that the well is also nearby makes it feel pretty user-friendly.
Upstairs, there were four rooms that could be used for the bedroom, as well as a bedside and closet for making it.
McCloud's explanation was that it was okay for a family of ten to live there.
The next property was a cohabitation like a long house, far enough north of the main gate.
It's called the maisonette type, where four houses connect to the side, each on two floors, and there's also a small garden behind it.
Inside it was narrower than the earlier house and only two bedrooms upstairs.
The third house was a house about five minutes north, a wooden two-story house on a triangular roof.
As for the construction, it was close to the first house, but the well was far away, about a hundred meters away.
On the spot, Liddy started negotiating prices.
"The first house is 50C (Krona) per month (= 50,000 yen). Could the second house be 20C and the third house be 25C for sure? That's pretty expensive."
McCloud floats a sales smile,
"It's cheaper than the old town. That way, even if it's about the size of this property, we'll have a minimum of 80C."
(If you do pay 2C every day to enter the Old Town, you might as well live in the Old Town, even if it's a little expensive. Still, the salaries of officials in academic cities are pretty good)
Liddy gently streams McCloud's story and moves on.
"How much would it cost to pay up front for five years in bulk?
McCloud's expression changed slightly to her words. The glittering expression disappeared for a moment, giving a glimpse of a full expression of intent.
(Is this face real? In a way, it's more reassuring to give me this look. Nevertheless, a lump sum prepayment of five years is three thousand C, three million yen because it is the first house that takes fifty times twelve months. Not the money you can't pay, but now, how do we get out over there...)
"Are you in bulk for five years...... then let me study 10%, no, one cup of eyes and give you two discounts"
(Bi-discount or… if you calculate the discount rate in terms of internal rate of return (IRR), it will be about five percent. You can't tell without spreadsheet software. Either way, if the interest rate is about twenty percent per annum, there shouldn't be any harm in three discounts over there. Well, let's see how Liddy's doing...)
Liddy looked at McCloud's expression and sent me a gaze. Those eyes are obviously telling me to negotiate.
(Dude, are you swinging at me? I don't have a choice...)
While I thought I had no choice, I decided to live up to her expectations.
"Lord McCloud, I'm Zacharias Lockhart. Lydiane is my tutor."
All of a sudden, McCloud looks surprised because I spoke to him.
"I want you to tell me, what is the interest rate on this Doctus loan at the annual rate?
Suddenly the subject changed, starting Liddy, and everyone was surprised. McCloud, told the story, nevertheless managed to regain his sales smile,
"Is it about three to five minutes a month? Trading on an annual basis will be between chambers of commerce, so there are no set numbers. It will be decided on the spot...... what is that?
I was in my head, reckoning.
(Three to five minutes a month means that the combined interest calculation will result in an annual interest rate of 1,04 squares... just to be clear, the annual interest rate is just over 60 percent? So, you're botched by the two discounts... now, because you can't do any more calculations...)
I ignore McCloud and use the ground to start calculating.
(Calculation on a monthly basis is cumbersome, so as to make it a calculation on a yearly basis, as a composite interest calculation of 60 percent for the next five years at 600 C in the first year… 15 thousand two hundred C in the fifth year? So, as a five-year discount, a five-year compound interest calculation of one thousand five hundred and sixty percent is a five-fold multiplier of one and six, so ten and five times? Even the thousand five hundred C will be fifteen thousand eight hundred C. Well, that's a ton. Five discounts to negotiate first.)
After about five minutes of calculation, I stood up to Seo Momoro and laughed niggly.
"That's a funny story about the first cup with a two-discount. According to my calculations, even five discounts will make a profit."
McCloud had turned off his sales smile and was staring at me with a faceless face.
And a few moments later, you returned it to me, and you put your sales smile on your face again, raising your hands.
"What calculation is that? No matter how much you advance, a five-discount… no matter what you say about such an imperfect thing…"
I narrow my eyes, say, "Well, I'll explain," and start explaining the formula I wrote on the ground.
"If received in bulk at the time of the contract, the gold can be turned to reinvestment. Assuming you lend that money for four minutes a month, 60% a year... it will be this amount. On the other hand, if you receive it every month, this is the only money you can turn to reinvest…"
Starting Guy, neither Liddy nor Sharon can keep up with my explanation. McCloud had first heard with a smile on his face, but gradually began to sweat on his forehead, blocking the explanation with the feeling of a lift along the way.
"Oh, I'm afraid. I didn't know there was a calculation method like this. But the five discounts are a little..."
I had a full smile and said, "How about a 40-50 minute discount? This will still make a lot of money," he says.
He whines as he wipes the sweat off his forehead, "Is that a 40-50 minute discount... on a four-discount..."
(You don't have to do this any more. I don't want to make enemies any more than living in this city)
"Four discounts... you're going to make a lot of money"
After squealing like that, he turned to Liddy and said, "They're going to take it for a four-discount. Which property are we gonna make it?," he said.
Liddy couldn't keep up with me and McCloud and was confused that he was suddenly told the story.
"Uh... how about the first house? It's a little big, but I think the price would be worth it."
"There's nothing different about me. How's Sharon?
Sharon has also nodded cocklessly, telling him that there is no difference.
After that, fine conditions will be determined.
In it, I can tell you that some modifications are admissible, but conditional on being restored to their original condition when I withdraw them.
(You can make a bath in a room with drainage facilities on the ground floor. It's more magical than it used to be, so it'll be done in two days...)
The extradition was decided to take place on the 23rd of July, the day after the written examination, at which time the contract was to give one thousand eight hundred C.
On the way home, Liddy spoke with a frightened voice.
"As usual, it's impotent. I've never heard of four discounts. I was going to try my best to make it about 20-50 minutes, but at first I said five discounts..."
"You're out-of-the-box. You could have pushed it at five discounts. Well, the guy named McCloud doesn't seem to be as good as he looks, so I got off at four discounts, and he can still make more than 3,000 C's."
Liddy said with a pompous look, "Hey, what was the calculation earlier, is it really there? I've heard."
I nodded forcefully, "Of course."
"If it's a weird calculation, there's no way McCloud, the merchant, would approve a four-discount"
Liddy said, "Right. But I have no idea," I see Guy and Sharon.
They both nodded, agreeing with her.
