Eagle of the Valley of Ice and Fire

Chapter 123: The Eyes of the Falcon

Evan Arryn exhaled white mist and looked at Melisandre, who was only wrapped in a thin red robe, with some surprise.

"Aren't you followers of the Red God afraid of the cold?" Evan Arryn asked curiously with his mouth slightly opened.

"Who said that?" Moqorro shivered his lips, "Damn, your feudal lord lives on such a high mountain, isn't he afraid of the cold?" He was wrapped in a thick brown robe, and Moqorro's eye-catching bone-white beard was not winding outside at this time, but tightly wrapped in the robe.

Evan Arryn showed a playful smile, "Eagles roam in the sky, and eagle nests are naturally on the high mountains."

Melisandre did not participate in their discussion, but looked at Mia Stone who was leading the way up the mountain in front.

Mia wiped the short hair that blocked her vision. She felt a little wronged in her heart, and rarely ignored the people behind her who wanted to go up the mountain.

She asked the master of the Gates of the Moon to trim her messy short hair into neat short hair that reached her ears. People in the Gates of the Moon praised her for being much cuter now.

When she was full of joy and wanted to go up the mountain to meet Artis, she heard that the Duke had a new lover.

She grabbed the cracked stone in her palm and threw it into the air.

Mia glanced at Melisandre behind her. Even a woman like her would be attracted by the red robe in front of her, curious about what kind of body was hidden under the red robe.

Melisandre's red eyes met Mia's, and the latter quickly looked away, muttering: "Watch your step, noble lord."

"I'm not a noble lord from Westeros," Moqorro said in Valyrian, obviously not wanting Mia and Evan Arryn to hear, "I'm just a servant of the Red God, a poor orphan taken in by a red monk."

Evan Arryn focused his eyes on Moqorro, "Red monk, I warned you." He spoke in Valyrian.

Maqiro looked at Evan Arryn in surprise, "You are a complete genius. You made medicine to stun the guards, hide your face and identity, and know the language of the East Continent. Are you a Faceless Man?"

Evan Arryn did not reply, but walked to the front, "Please hurry up, lady, I think it will be dark soon."

Mia shook her head, "It won't be fast. Let's go to the castle in front to rest as night is approaching. I guess you won't be able to reach the Eyrie before tonight."

The setting sun fell obliquely on the slope of the mountainside, and the woods were covered with an orange-red halo. The path surrounded by the woods was exposed to pedestrians.

"We are almost at the Dangerous Stone Castle. It is still too dangerous to climb the mountain at night. It is better for us to rest here." Mia Stone stood at the bend of the hillside and said to the staggering red-robed monk behind him.

"It should have been done earlier, haha." Maqiro followed Mia excitedly as if he saw the guidance of R'hllor's holy fire.

Evan Arryn frowned slightly, "The date agreed by Duke Artis and I is today."

Mia Stone muttered, "Mountain climbing at night is equivalent to giving up your life, sir."

Melisandre continued to look at the black-haired and handsome tomboy in front of her, thinking.

"Do you know Artis Arryn?" she asked.

Mia Stone looked at the red-robed woman with a little dissatisfaction, obviously quite dissatisfied with the introduction of this topic.

"Obviously very familiar?" Melisandre looked at the short-haired girl in front of her with a frown, and the corners of her mouth raised.

"No." Mia Stone instinctively refuted, but her face was gently caressed by a warm hand. Melisandre's red eyes approached Mia, staring at her eyes, and her expression became solemn.

"What are you doing?" Mia Stone was horrified to find that under the gaze of the red-robed woman, she was instinctively attracted, and her body seemed to be fixed in place. Mia stared into the eyes of the red-robed woman, and her heart was timid.

Melisandre put away her solemn expression and smiled at Mia, "Do you know your father?" she asked.

"No, I don't know." Mia only remembered that when she was a child, a man often came to the door, lifted her up high, and spun on the spot.

This memory left only joy. As for the identity of the man, Mia didn't care.

"Very good." Melisandre's praise made Mia confused, but the red-robed woman ended her gaze on her, which made her relieved.

The heavy gate of the Dangerous Stone Castle was opened. The canyon knight guarding the fortress must be very familiar with Mia. He came out of the city from a distance to greet them. Seeing that there were women in the group, he led the horse to Melisandre and Mia in a gentlemanly manner, asked them to mount the horse and enter the city, and promised to arrange a donkey for each of them as a mount.

"This girl, what did you see?" Moqorro walked to her side and asked.

"Noble blood." Melisandre replied lightly.

"The bastard of the Arryn family?" Moqorro raised his eyebrows slightly and guessed.

Melisandre did not continue to respond. "It's time to rest, Moqorro." She turned and walked back to her room.

The main hall of the Eyrie was empty, leaving only Artis Arryn alone, staring at the blue-veined white stone wall, like a blue sky covered by clouds.

The long and narrow arched windows were embedded in the walls of the main hall, and burning pillars of fire were inserted in them. The static flames suddenly danced and reflected in Artis' eyes.

Artis stared at the flames, which swayed in the windless main hall, but he could not see any image.

"My lord, Ser Evan Arryn wants to see you." Anguy said at the door.

"Let him in." Artis said.

Evan Arryn walked in carefully, without making a sound, and knelt on one knee.

"Duke Artis, I have brought the red monk you asked for to the Eyrie." Evan looked up at Artis who was kneeling in front of the Falcon Throne.

Artis sat on the throne, stroking the fish-beam wooden seat with his fingers. "Gull Town sent a warning early, hoping to get a warrant from Nestor Royce for a red monk from Volantis."

Evan lowered his head tightly, waiting for Artis's question, without making a sound.

"Did you kidnap him?" Artis asked.

Evan Arryn raised his head, "Yes, Duke Artis, I followed your instructions. No one would think that these two red monks would come to the Eyrie, whether nobles or civilians."

Artis sat quietly on the throne, listening to how Evan Arryn brought the red monks out of the prison of the Shet family, and how he brought them through the Arryn Valley to the Eyrie.

After saying this, Evan suppressed his excitement and tried to remain calm while looking at Artis Arryn, who was standing high above him.

Artis seemed not to have heard Evan's description, but just looked at Evan Arryn calmly.

"I have a question, and I don't know what your answer is." Artis said.

Evan asked tentatively, "What is your question?"

"What do you think Renly and Stannis should choose for the Eyrie if they pursue the best interests of the Arryn family?" Artis looked at Evan Arryn. The man in front of him was very capable, and he hoped to have an answer that would satisfy him.

Evan Arryn frowned and took a deep breath, "I think there is no need to support either of them."

Artis leaned back on the back of the Falcon Throne, "I would like to hear the details."

"Send troops to King's Landing, hold King Joffrey hostage, and order the lords of the Seven Kingdoms to surrender." Evan Arryn hesitated for a moment and gave an unexpected answer.

The head and branch of the Arryn family, the lord and the minor nobles of the valley, looked at each other in silence.

The flames on the fire pillar stopped swaying, and it seemed to be quiet for a long time. Atis took the initiative to break the silence of the main hall, "You are ruthless and clever, but you lack something."

Atis walked down the platform, "I want to create a new position, I wonder if you are willing to take it."

Evan Arryn felt a burst of ecstasy in his heart, and this emotion burned his chest like a flame, "I am a member of the Arryn family, and I will naturally obey the Duke's orders."

"The eagle soars in the sky, and it needs a pair of eyes that overlook the overall situation." Atis stared at Evan Arryn's eyes and said.

"Where should I go?" Evan Arryn asked.

"King's Landing, that lonely city, will sooner or later have a true king settle in, we need to prepare early." Atis said.
