Chapter 39
39. That Umbrella
Translator: Flying LinesTang Miaoyu walked on the road without any destination. She was wearing the pair of black flats Su Ruiqi prepared for her, which was warm and comfortable. When she thought of that, she almost burst into tears.
She looked at the crowd in a daze, they all seemed so calm as always. But who knew how many sad stories those passers-by have?
Miaoyu hurriedly lowered her head and wiped off her tears. She felt a little cold so she put her hands into her pockets. There was a roll of paper. She then took it out. It was a stack of one hundred bill. Seeing that, she wanted to cry again. Tears gushed out her eyes. The money bills seemed so beautiful under the sun. What should she do then?
Her heart was suddenly filled with grief. She clenched the money and raised her head. Standing on the sidewalk, she looked at the busy world around her. She didn’t know what to do and where to go next.
Everyone’s fate was controlled by themselves, and at the same time, interwound with each other’s. Some people didn’t believe there was heaven, because God didn’t have time to save everybody.
Miaoyu continued to walk forward with a broken heart. She didn’t know how far she had walked, nor how many intersections she had passed. Her legs were numb, her face was pale, cold sweat was dropping from her forehead, and the stack of money was still squeezed in her hand. She came to a bustling market. At this time, the cold wind were blowing, the sun was fading away, the atmosphere became depressive. Miaoyu finally came to statue on an unknown street. She glanced at an old woman afar who was sweeping the street in a dirty yellow clothes. The old woman had a messy hairstyle. She kept sweeping the trash on the street, when she was tired, she stopped to wipe the sweat on her forehead. Her old face seemed sad and tired. When she felt chill, she blew on her hands to warm them. There was mist spreading out. She also felt a heartache and also a pain on her back, so she sat down and panted.
Seeing this, Miaoyu’s heart ached so badly. She covered her mouth tightly and looked at the woman in front of her with tears. She cried quietly, “Mom…”
Li Xiulan panted wearily, then she stood up and wiped off the sweat on her forehead. After finishing sweeping the rest of the streets, she put all the recyclable wastes in her garbage bag and used all her strength to pull the bag toward the garbage car with her dirty and scarred hands.
Miaoyu collapsed deside the statue, sobbing in pain. Seeing her mom like that, she couldn’t help but cry with guilt, “Mom… I am so sorry…I’m so useless… useless…”
Li Xiulan looked back curiously as if she heard a sob.
Miaoyu hid behind the statue, covering her mouth and sobbing. She just let her tears roll down, feeling the heartbreaking pain.
Li Xiulan glanced at the cold street and felt that she was overthinking. Then she continued to walk forward with the garbage bag.
“Mom…” Miaoyu followed behind her mother. Tear drops were falling while following her mother.
At this time, the sky darkened. Suddenly, black clouds came pressing down. A gust of wind blew and heavy rain started dropping down with no mercy.
Li Xiulan raised her head and watched the rain coming from all directions. She pulled the garbage bag and walked toward the garbage car, shivering!
Standing in the rain, Miaoyu looked at her mother’s wet figure with tears. However, she stopped herself from running toward her mom. Instead, she just gritted her teeth and stood still…
Li Xiulan was panting as she walked forward. She hadn’t taken a few steps before she heard a childish voice, “Miss…”
Li Xiulan turned her head and saw a child with a small umbrella. She gave Li Xiulan a dark blue umbrella and said, “A sister asked me to give it to you just now!”
Li Xiulan looked at the umbrella in the little girl’s hand and then looked at the surrounding. There was nobody familiar. So she didn’t take the umbrella.
“Take it…” The little girl handed the umbrella to Li Xiulan, then left.
Li Xiulan stood in the rain. She felt somehow sad while holding the umbrella. Then she glanced around this rainy world.
Miaoyu was still hiding behind the statue. She curled up, squatted in the rain, covered her face and cried. The rain was mercilessly dropping on her body, but it couldn’t wash away her kindness. She couldn’t help but cry loudly while shouting to the sky, “What have I done wrong to deserve this? Why you do this to me? What have I done wrong? Dad… Mom… I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…”
The heavy rain continued to shower on the city!
Tang Miaoyu continued to cry in grief. She was so sad that eventually she passed out in the heavy rain!
A group of high class vehicles slowly headed towards the square The first one, Rolls-Royce was flashing metallically in the rain…
