No one is coming to rescue you from yourself:

your inner demons, your lack of confidence,

your dissatisfaction with yourself and your life.

Only self love and good decisions will rescue you.

-Jenni Young

The cracking of bones echoes loudly, guttural sounds erupt from the demons stomach as it feasts on a freshly cut leg.

'Even though it took forever to take her down, I've always liked prey that put up a fight before its final moments. It makes the blood more rich. I'm a bit exhausted that bitch's punches took a lot internal energy to withstand. I guess it is a good thing she wasn't an elementalist or else my injuries would have been more severe.'

*Growling noises*, the saliva from its mouth partly dissolves the bloody human flesh in its hand.

'Cultivator meat has always been the tastiest. It's so full of delicious healthy muscle I could get drunk off of this. I was getting tired of the cooked crap that cafeteria kept preparing. Raw flesh has always been the best,' As it eats its ears thin ears on the top of its head twitch to a foreign sound.

As it gets closer you can tell it has a steady rhythm.

'A heartbeat. Someone's coming!" The monster changes form, reverting to the same girl Melia had a bit of a problem with at the cafeteria.

It gets up from its crouched position and opens its mouth up wider than what seems physically possible to stuff the remainder of its diner in. With sad eyes it feels reluctant to leave the body but it does not have enough time, that person is too close.

"Shit!"

Then it speeds out of the hall using a form of art common to martial artists. The illusion previously placed to trick Gazora fading away, as if it had never been there in the first place.

How did a beast evolve to where it could learn all of these things?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'My body is moving so fast. What's going on?' I can't hear any footsteps, but someone has to be carrying me.

I can feel their arms wrapped around me.' The pain shooting up my leg reminds me of what happened previously. How could this happen! I've trained for so many years, so much hard work, how the hell was I beaten!

I'm a disgrace to sensei. I was the one who forced him to teach me some moves yet in the end I could bȧrėly use what I learnt to defend myself. If Melia was here she would've easily turned the tables, I don't know how I could ever have thought that I'd be able to measure up to her.

I envy her so much. She's so perfect, strong, beautiful, and so powerful.

Caught up in my thoughts I almost did not notice when the movements stopped. I try to open my eyes to see where I am.

It's only enough to see the person in front of me. I can't turn my head at all, my neck is so stiff. It's a boy, his skin is tanned from his exposed neck that's what I ȧssume. It looks soft to the touch.

Someone is arguing with him. They are saying something about knocking but I am not really focusing on the conversation. I am to busy gazing at the beautiful face in front of me.

Fiery red hair fills my vision, they sway like dancing flames and I find myself entranced. His eyes are gold like the sun, yet they don't resonate the same warmth. These eyes are cold.

*internal gasp*'It's Sebastian!' I should have recognized those cold orbs anywhere, the only time you see a glint of emotion is when he's looking at Melia. As if she's his whole world and the rest of us are incomparable to her.

I feel my heart pound against my ribcage once I realize who's holding me. His arms wrapped around me now feel so obvious I can even feel the heat from them pressing onto my skin. Blood rushes to my head and I feel my mind grow light again, black soon the only thing I can see.

------------------------------------------

Waking up again I feel a pair of calloused hands on my forehead. A medicinal scent drafts into my nose. It smells like how an alchemists' quarters would be. I should know because I am one.

The hands then move to my lips, parting them open. A thick liquid passes down my throat, it tastes awful, but peristalsis push it down my throat against my will. This is the Huifu elixir. Only alchemists of the third rank and upwards are able to successfully create one with a 60-100 percent healing rate.

I recognize the ingredients immediately. From my master's teaching I had to go through innumerable taste tests for herbs. Identifying herbs by taste comes to me like second nature now.

There is a hint of Scarlet's flower used for nerve and meridian regeneration on the herb ranking scale this counts as a cyan grade herb. Then there's the tangy aftertaste of winter needle grass, it's used as an antipyretic meaning it helps to alleviate fever, this herb is classed as a green grade. Then there's the crushed up bones of an earth elemental bald eagle. It helps to strengthen the bone and it is extremely bitter. Finally the last thing added to what was given to me is the skin of a red rank golden viper, it aids in muscle production.

These ingredients are very tough to come by, nouveau rich would kill to get their hands on these.

Herbs are classed into four ranks. Violet grade stands for the rarest types, that grow in the most extreme conditions. They are used to concoct life saving miracle pills. Money can not be used to buy these unless it is at an auction, most of the time you have to hold an exchange, you have to trade something of equal valuable to gain the miracle pill.

Then there is the cyan stage herbs, they are not as rare as the violet grade but the two do have something in common, it takes skilled mercenaries specialized in herb collection to gather them. Cyan herbs usually grow in areas where there are numerous beasts, deep inside forests, at the bottom of not your everyday type of lake etc.

Next would be green grade herbs. These are found in most medicinal halls but they sell for a decent amount. Something out of reach for your average poor person. The rich love to stock up on these type of herbs, saving it for their next generation of cultivators to carry on the family lineage.

Yellow grade is the lowest classification for herbs. These are used to treat common illnesses and you can find them almost anywhere on the continent.

I hear a crash in the background, then a female voice shouts, "Fuck! who put that there. Ouch my damn toe!"

My humorous state lasts only for a second before I remember why I need this medicine in the first place. It's because of my leg.

'There's always something blocking me from being happy. If it isn't sensei, then it's father and now this. Sometimes I wish I could just drift through life without having to worry about danger lurking around the corner. I'm tired of the constant scheming.'

My leg aches so badly that I can not stop my body from twitching. There's still that thick metallic scent of blood in the air, and I don't like it at all. My ċhėst feels as though an elephant is sitting on top of it. I'm so tired. I just want to drift off to sleep but it is like my mind is on overdrive, constantly thinking about what I could have done to stop all of it from happening. How much stronger I could have been if I didn't panic. I should have stayed calm. I shouldn't have rushed into that fight at all.

Then there's those green eyes. Those unsettling eerie forest green orbs that stared into my soul. As if it knew everything that I was about to do and after. The sounds that thing made as it launched itself at me I can't seem to get them out of my head. It's all I can think about. Those low guttural snarls and the fear I felt in that moment.

I just knew...I knew that I was about to die.
