Finding Stardust
293 The Mentors
She then added, "Student council members also have access that ordinary students don't have. For example, they can use the library longer. They can also access locations that are closed to the public, and so on."
Ulla's last sentences intrigued Emma. She liked spending a lot of time in the library. Unfortunately, there was a curfew for that facility here. If she was allowed to stay in the library longer, she would be very happy.
"All right, then I also want to apply as a member of the student council," said Emma suddenly.
"Wait, are you serious?" asked Ulla in surprise. Since knowing Emma for several days, the girl had the impression that Emma was just here to study and was indifferent to other things. She didn't seem to have an interest in anything other than plants.
Ulla did not expect Emma would be interested in applying for a student council member position.
Bastian signaled the new students to gather with their respective classmates and elect their representatives for the student council.
"Well .. aren't we supposed to choose after we start school?" asked an astonished Miri. "This is still the induction week."
"It's only temporary. Next week, after you start your class and get to know your classmates well, you can choose to keep your original representative, or you may choose ones. This week, the student council will throw a challenge that will let you get to know each other and learn about the academy at the same time. It will be fun."
Everyone looked at each other with excited expressions. Ulla wasn't in Emma's class, so Emma couldn't ask her what this challenge was about. She was forced to wait until Bastian explained.
"So, each class will be given tasks to find hidden treasures. You can ask for help from teachers or seniors. If you could convince them to help, they might be willing to be your mentors.
"Ohh .. treasure hunting! How exciting .." exclaimed the students to each other. Their faces all looked enthusiastic.
"Well, since we have 4 classes, I will distribute assignments for you to work on. Before we start, I want you to get to know each other and know the powers that each of your classmates has. Later, you will be able to divide the assignments according to the elements you can control." Bastian continued to give instructions to them, and the students took careful notes of what he said.
Marci walked over to Emma's group, and her eyes narrowed as she caught sight of Emma's figure in the corner. Her lips had a faint smile as she glanced at Ylsa, who was sitting gracefully in her chair on the stage.
"Are you talking to me?" Emma asked.
"That's right," replied Marci.
"Oh, my name is Lee Wolfland," said Emma. She looked closely at Marci and made an assessment. From the way she spoke and stood now, Marci did look arrogant, but Emma didn't think she was arrogant at all. Distant, maybe, but not arrogant.
Actually, for some reason, seeing Marci, she thought about herself.
"Has your class selected which senior you will ask to be your mentor to help with the assignments?" asked Marci.
Miri and the other students looked at each other.
"Uhm .. this afternoon, we were guided by Akane and Harland. Maybe we will ask them both to help us in this challenge," said Miri.
"Hm ... I'll do it," said Marci interrupting Miri's words. "I haven't mentored any class. If you want, I am willing to be your mentor. What do you think?"
All the students in Emma's class held their breath at once. Marci was one of the academy's most respected students, and she was known to be gifted.
Did she just volunteer to help their class?
They never dreamed that they could ask Marci for help. After all, not only was she the most respected senior, but she was also a princess!
Since no one spoke at all, as they were all shocked, Marci finally snapped her fingers and repeated her question impatiently.
"Can anyone say something? Is it yes or no? Why is everyone silent?"
Miri, Haria, and several other students immediately nodded in unison. Their faces were filled with happiness and disbelief.
"We would love that!"
Emma smiled faintly at her classmates' enthusiasm. She refrained from reading their minds, but she could tell why they were so excited.
However, what astonished her was actually Marci's attitude. Why did this senior offer to be their mentor? From what she saw among other groups, the new students sought out and beg the seniors to help them.
She saw Ulla approaching Ylsa, who was sitting gracefully in her chair. From the movement of her lips and her enthusiastic expression, Emma could tell that Ulla was asking Ylsa to be their group mentor.
Ylsa seemed to look down on Ulla. However, after Ulla pulled Bastian to help her persuade Ylsa, the Terren princess's expression changed. Her face was decorated with a sweet smile, and she waved her hand in a friendly manner to Ulla.
"Ahh .. why didn't you say that you are Bastian's cousin?" asked the girl in her crisp voice. "Okay .. of course, I want to be your mentor."
"Whoaaa.. thank you! Ylsa, you are the best!"
Ulla immediately called her classmates to come to Ylsa. They all looked very happy to score the prettiest senior as their mentor.
Emma saw the corners of Marci's lips twitch as if holding back her laughter when watching the excitement among the class A students who managed to get Ylsa as a mentor.
She wondered what Marci thought was funny and why she'd offered to help them.
Marci suddenly cleared her throat and looked at the class B students. "So, do you really want me to be your mentor? Why is nobody showing their enthusiasm??"
Jeez ... Marci is harsh, Emma thought. The girl's harsh words reminded her a little of Marlowe.
After they heard Marci's protest, the class B students hurriedly cheered and clapped their hands.
"Yeay.. Marci you are the best!"
"Thanks for helping us."
"We are very happy!!"
