Heroine On Strike
CH 45
Act 6. The One Who Records the Story Hidden By the Moonlight
“Are you going out?”
Ella was shocked to find Evan working so hard on this, even if it was a serious issue. When the drought appeared in the story, the novel never mentioned Evan. Not only that, Luciella barely appeared in this part of the story. Instead, the focus was on Cladis, and he eventually resolved it. She remembered in the novel that many nobles were still holding parties and complained about the emperor’s temporary ban on partying. Just like Count Mellin thought about gaining wealth by using the drought, many of the nobles didn’t care about people dying from it. With that said, she thought Evan’s attitude towards the issue would be like other nobles. She never thought he would pull an all-nighter while skipping his meals for this.
Feeling sorry for thinking so lowly of Evan, Ella said, “I’m sorry for burdening you with such a big problem.”
Although Ella was apologetic towards him, Evan waved his hand to ask her to come closer. He then smiled, albeit a bit fatigued, and looked at her. “Ella. You have done well to tell me this. This isn’t something you can deal with alone. Also, it’s now my job and the empire’s job to resolve it. Don’t worry about me and don’t make such a face. I’m relieved that you didn’t take this burden all by yourself.”
“Brother…” murmured Ella as she ran up to him, kissed his cheek, and then hugged him. Evan also gently hugged her back.
‘So, this is what family is like,’ thought Ella. The reason she could live in this world was because of this family. She had parents again and also now had brothers. Although they weren’t Ranhee’s family, they were Ella’s. Now that Ranhee had inherited all of Luciella’s memories, they were her family now. Maybe that was why they were much more special to her. Evan was only 26 years old, but she felt like he was much older than her. Hugging him like a child and kissing him wasn’t something 38-year-old Ranhee would even think of doing, but it was natural for 17-year-old Ella.
“Hahaha. If you’re so thankful, then bring me a present on your way back.”
“A present? What do you need?” Ella asked as though she would run out now to get it.
Evan felt like fatigue had vanished. Her reaction was enough of a gift, but there was something he really needed. “I was going to ask you to fetch it for me later. It’s good that you’re going out. Can you give this letter to the owner of the Magical Tower of the Long Moonlight on your way out?”
“Magical Tower of the Long Moonlight?”
“Yes. He should have some information about the past Change of Generations. That place has information that people don’t know about. Take Benjamin with you. Give the information to him once you get it from the tower’s owner.
“I will do that.”
She could have done a much harder task for him, but this was perfect. Ella was planning to go and meet someone there. In the original story, Cladis brought her to the tower, because she wanted to know more about the Flower of the Empress. At the tower, they had met someone there. Ella needed this person in order to survive. But there was no justification to be made on visiting the place in reality. She had thought about it all night in bed, but she coudln’t find a way. She had planned on asking the duchess to write a referral letter for permission to enter the tower. Evan’s request was her ticket into the tower. It felt like the world was trying to redirect Ella to the original plot of the story. Still, going there was her goal anyway.
After leaving the house, Ella glanced at Smila, then leaned against the window. Then, she moved the curtain, covering the window to the side. Since her arrival to this world, this was her second trip outside. It was also her first time being able to look around outside without having to worry about someone else.
The streets looked like medieval Europe but also looked clean as she had imagined. The city had a sewer system in place, and there were separate streets for carriages and people. In addition, the streets were filled with flowers with street lights here and there. She felt at the Glass Garden, but this world had everything built like an artpiece. It looked like a world in a painting, or a doll house that someone put a lot of effort into that was enlarged to a real size. It was like a medieval world that young Ranhee had imagined after watching a Disney movie. That fantasy, however, was destroyed once Ella began living in Paris to study. On the other hand, this world was her fantasy realized.
‘How did the city evolve in such a way?’ As soon as she asked that question in her head, new information appeared in her mind. But that still didn’t answer her original question. It just added, ‘How did it come to such a conclusion?’ as a question. Her curiosity never left her even as the carriage moved through the city and finally arrived at its destination. The Royal Knights guarded the Magical Tower of the Long Moonlight instead of the usual gatekeepers from the Magical Tower Association like in other magical towers. They checked that the carriage belonged to the Constance family and formally welcomed Ella in. Then a knight notified someone from the inside of her arrival, and a giant door quietly opened. Inside, it was like a giant library.
“Whoa!” Ella exclaimed.
