Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#51 - Imitating the strong is an instinct
“The wizarding world has its fair share of troubles too.”
After a brief conversation with Professor McGonagall, Roger temporarily abandoned his idea of universally distributing his Alaya magic principles for the benefit of all.
Professor McGonagall had lived in the Muggle world for many years and had also worked in the legal department of the Ministry of Magic, making her incredibly experienced in social matters.
A few questions from her were enough to make Roger give up his sudden whim.
Firstly, the Statute of Secrecy is a consensus among wizards worldwide and a product of the current conservative ideology.
Roger's plan to boldly interfere with Muggle thinking would definitely be strongly opposed by the old conservatives in the wizarding world.
Secondly, while Roger's Alaya magic was feasible, it presented a difficult problem.
Since he wanted to start with entertainment and guide thinking, he would first need to produce works capable of becoming popular in more than one country.
You are a Seer, so perhaps you have some special methods, but what about others?
Imagine developing a time-travel-related magic and then investing tens of millions to produce a time-travel-themed movie, only to have it flop in theaters.
Wouldn't that be incredibly embarrassing?
This stuff just isn't suitable for ordinary wizards to play with!
Storytelling is a talent, and many professional film companies often fail.
A group of wizards who don't even understand Muggles want to play with Muggle entertainment?
Therefore, the path Roger provided, under the current wizarding social environment and objective conditions, generally has only two ways to go.
One is the path of secrecy: quietly enter the village, and don't fire your gun.
Those who have the ability to do this should secretly do it without attracting the attention of the conservatives.
Even if discovered, they can insist that it's just a normal business investment.
The other path is for wizards to collectively chase Muggle trends.
Change according to Muggle changes.
But this raises another problem: often, Muggle ideas are different from the magical development needs of wizards.
Therefore, neither of these methods is of much significance to Roger.
Roger has his own sense of crisis and doesn't need to go far for magic research.
He was doing this purely to strengthen the overall wizarding civilization.
After all, his rapid growth is based on the legacy of many great wizards in the past.
If they hadn't left so many works, Roger's magical research progress might not even be a tenth of what it is now.
The excellent achievements of many other wizards allow him to draw inferences and analogies.
As the saying goes, three mediocre generals are better than Zhuge Liang.
Roger naturally wanted to mobilize the wisdom of the masses to facilitate his plagiarism… to learn from them.
But according to Professor McGonagall, unless he one day has the strength to change the overall atmosphere of the wizarding society, Alaya magic will be difficult to play its due role.
“So, that's why you've been a little down today?” Hermione realized.
“I thought…” She thought it was because of the magical accident.
Hogwarts common room.
A group of people gathered around Roger, including students from all four houses, of various ages.
In the past three months, aside from the slightly crude methods, Roger had indeed helped many people and changed the atmosphere of mutual antagonism among the houses.
Now that this 'Big Brother' in everyone's mind had suddenly turned into a lead coffin, many of those Roger had helped in the past naturally gathered here to express their concern.
“Um, actually, you guys have misunderstood.
Although my appearance is a bit strange now, I'm perfectly fine,” Roger said, always one to speak his mind.
Looking at the classmates around him who were concerned about him, he didn't want to hide the matter of the magical experiment.
“You can think of it as me experimenting with a kind of highly toxic magic, but this poison has no effect on me personally.
This lead coffin is mainly to prevent the poison from harming anyone other than me.” Roger had also tried to develop magic to eliminate radiation.
However, Roger himself had no ability to sense radiation, making it difficult for him to determine if he had eliminated it completely.
Therefore, until the Geiger counter was delivered to the school, he would maintain this appearance.
“Won't it be very stuffy in there?” On the other side of the lead coffin, a young wizard from a Muggle family who had been sorted into Slytherin asked with some concern.
Roger had once helped him when he was ostracized by some people in his house.
Although everyone had heard that Roger was developing a 'highly toxic' magic, and they might be injured if it leaked, none of the people around him left because of this.
They didn't think that the Seer would make a mistake, nor did they think that even if the 'toxin' really leaked, the Seer wouldn't be able to solve this little problem.
“Not at all, it's very spacious inside.” Roger wasn't lying about this.
“You know the Undetectable Extension Charm, right? I used it a little, and the environment inside is enough for my daily life.”
The Undetectable Extension Charm was what Roger had asked Professor McGonagall to apply for from the Ministry of Magic back when he was still modifying his magical brain.
Although the magical brain modification route had temporarily become a dead end due to the development of human alchemy, the right to use this space spell was still given to Roger shortly after the Terror of the Maze incident.
According to the Ministry of Magic's requirements, as long as Roger's use didn't involve commerce or violate the Ministry of Magic's laws, he could use it freely.
“Then how do you eat?” Fred Weasley and George Weasley asked in unison.
Previously, when they encountered problems in developing prank products, these two of Ron's twin brothers had come to Roger, who was said to be very good at alchemy, for help.
Roger provided them with some knowledge and inspiration, allowing them to develop new prank products like Puking Pastilles, so they also came over this time Roger 'had an accident'.
“I don't need to eat,” Roger replied.
In fact, Roger's physical modification progress had reached a point a month ago where he no longer needed to eat in the conventional sense.
He had more efficient ways to replenish energy.
Eating now was purely a form of entertainment for him to enjoy delicious food, and a matter of 'habit'.
It was like Roger could now not breathe, but if he didn't breathe, he always felt unaccustomed.
Although he was gradually becoming 'inhuman' in terms of life level, the habits of ordinary people over the years couldn't be quickly reversed.
“Alright, everyone, go and do your own things, don't worry about me, I'm fine.”
Hearing Roger say this, everyone looked at each other and gradually dispersed.
However, most of them went in the same direction.
The Hogwarts Library!
These people who had been helped by Roger had deeply experienced Roger's 'power'.
Faced with a strong person of the same age or even younger than themselves, many of them couldn't help but start imitating him.
Just like when Voldemort was in school, many classmates who admired him couldn't help but imitate his words, deeds, and thoughts, eventually transforming into Death Eaters.
Now, reading books in the library had become a quietly popular trend in Hogwarts.
After everyone had left, only Harry remained.
Roger had secretly sent him a message with magic, wanting to talk to him alone.
“Harry, you haven't been yourself lately.
You're not concentrating in class, and you're always distracted when doing other things.”
“…Sorry.” Harry, thinking that Roger was urging him to fulfill their agreement, looked distressed.
But Roger didn't mean that.
He knew that a forced melon is not sweet, so he never intended to force him: “Because of those memories?”
Roger knew that after so long, Harry should have read all the memories of his parents in the minds of the professors, including Snape's, of course.
Roger's Pensieve had been specially modified by him, so that users would be more 'immersed' when experiencing memories.
“Yes, I…” After hesitating for a long time, Harry finally spoke his mind.
“I don't know how to face Professor Snape anymore.”
