I went back to the calligraphy room and practiced in silence.

“It’s already 5 p.m. huh..?”

I looked at the clock on the wall  in front of the classroom and muttered.

“I think I’m gonna go home.”

I called out to Rio, who was still practicing in the corner of the calligraphy room.

“Oh, you’re leaving early today. I understand. Good night.”

“Oh, Good work. Rio, go home as soon as you are done.”

“Thank you.”

I packed my tools, grabbed my bag, and texted Sara.

“I’m done.”

(TLN: Text alert tone.)

The reply came immediately.

“I’m at a coffee shop nearby.”

With her reply, she sent me a picture of the location of the coffee shop.

It was located halfway between school and home.

“I’m headed there now. I’ll be there soon.”

After sending the message, I tucked my phone into my pocket and left the school.

“Oh, this is it.”

I reached the front of the coffee shop, which was about a ten-minute walk away, and opened the door.

“Nii-San.”

As I walked in, Sara, who was sitting at a table in the back, noticed me and softly called out to me.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.”

“No, don’t worry about it.”

I sat down in the seat in front of Sara.

“What would you like to order?”

The waitress came in with a cold drink.

“I’d like a coffee blend1, please.”

“Very well, sir.”

The waitress retreated after she took their order.

“I’ve never been here before.”

“Me too, but I like coffee shops.”

“Oh, so you like coffee shops, Sara?”

“Yes, it feels great to relax with a cup of coffee in a place like this.”

At that time, the blended coffee I had ordered was brought in.

“Ma~, Even I like to visit coffee shops once in a while. Just to relax from work or rather from my part-time job.”

“Do you have a part-time job, Nii-San?”

" "

Sara asked curiously.

‘It’s writing a title. Have you ever heard of light novels?”

“Yes, I’ve never read one, but …”

“I’ve been asked by a publisher to do the title for a fantasy novel like this one.”

I showed the diplayed of my screen to Sara, and pointed at the cover of the novel I was in charge of to her.

“You made this Nii-San…?”

“Oh, yes. I’m in charge of all the series by this author.”

I said, and showed her the other titles.

“It’s amazing, …”

The author of the series “The Strongest Sage of the Magic Academy” liked Haruki’s writing and offered him the title.

“I’m so happy. It’s nice to see my writing on the cover like this.”

“Hai!”

“Maybe next time I’ll let you borrow one of the samples I got.”

“Thank you very much!.”

When I said that, I took a sip of my coffee.

“Well then, We’d better get going.”

“I guess so.”

I stood up and took my wallet out of my bag.

“We’ll split it here.”

“No, it’s okay, I made you wait. I’ll pay.”

After paying the bill, they walked the rest of the way home.

Footnotes

A blended filtered drip coffee made with a ceramic, glass or plastic cone lined with a paper filter. Most preferred by professional baristas because they can control the water temperature at 200 to 210 degrees Fahrenheit. The filtered coffee is free of sediments because filters add an unwanted flavor.
