It was almost midnight, the timestamp was about to change.
“That’s it.”
I sent the manuscript I had written to Asagiri-san. I wanted to give myself a pat on the back for writing 100,000 words in just over a month. I received a reply soon after.
‘Thank you for your hard work. I’ll check your manuscript.’
That was the content of the email.
She also wrote that she would like to have a meeting with me to discuss the publication. I immediately sent her an email stating that I was available on weekends.
‘So, how about this weekend at the same coffee shop as before?’
‘Yes’ was the reply from Asagiri-san.
As for me, I had no problem with it, so I agreed and went to bed. I was at my wits’ end. I closed my eyes and immediately let go of my consciousness.
♢♢♢♢♢
It was Saturday, the day of the meeting.
“I’m off.”
I grabbed my bag and called out to Sara from the doorway. Then, with a flurried sound of footsteps, Sara came out of the living room.
“Have a good day, Nii-San. Please be careful.”
“All right. I’m off.”
I lightly patted Sara’s head.
I wanted to see the happy expression on her face more, but I was going to be late, so I left the house.
I heard the notification sound from my phone.
The message app contained a message from Asagiri.
“I arrived early, so I’m waiting for you.”
That was what it said…
“Yes. I’m on my way too. I’ll be there in about 15 minutes.”
As soon as I replied, it was read and I received an ‘Understood’.
I hurriedly walked to the coffee shop. Perhaps because I was in a bit of a hurry, it took me about ten minutes to get there.
“Welcome.”
The manager/ownder greeted me as usual.
“I’m meeting someone.”
“The table in the back.”
“Thank you.”
I found Asagiri-san sitting in the back, looking down at her tablet.
“I’m sorry to keep you waiting.”
Then I sat down on the seat facing her.
“Oh, good work. It’s okay. It’s still before our scheduled meeting time.”
Asagiri-san smiled as she said that.
I ordered a cup of blended coffee from the manager/owner and went right into the details of our meeting.
“So, let’s start with the manuscript. You’re good at writing, so you’ve got it all together. I think it’s interesting.”
“Thank you.”
At that moment, the manager/owner quietly brought me my coffee.
“There were a couple of typos and a few inconsistencies.”
“I see.”
“I fixed some of the typos, is that okay?”
Then she pointed her tablet at me.
“Yes, that would be more helpful. I’ll check it out.”
As for me, the less work I have to do, the better.
“Also, there are some inconsistencies in the settings here and here, can you fix them?”
“Okay.”
I took a note of what Asagiri had pointed out.
“And here’s the important thing. The illustration of the cover.”
Oh, we finally made it this far.
I realized that it was nice to see my characters come to live.
“Have you decided?”
“Tojo-sensei, is there anyone you’d prefer to work on your illustrations?”
Asagiri-san asked.
“Well, I guess. Maybe the one who draws Mahogaku.”
He was the only illustrator I knew, so I made the suggestion.
