I was keenly aware of how quickly the seasons change.

Summer ended, autumn passed, and now it was time for the cold of winter to set in. It was so cold that I hesitated to leave the futon.

“Speaking of which, Sara, isn’t it your birthday this month?”

I asked Sara, whose look for school had completely changed into a winter outfit with gloves and a muffler.

“Yes, that’s right! You remember it?!”

“Yes, of course.”

Sara gave me a delightful look.

The coldness in January could visibly be seen from Sara’s breath.

Yes, Sara’s birthday was this month.

“We should do something to celebrate.”

“Oh, thank you.”

Sara’s white skin was turning a light shade of red.

I wonder if she was really happy that I remembered her birthday.

“Is there anything you want to do or anything you want?”

“I would be happy enough even if only Nii-San will be with me.”

Sara said with a soft smile on her face.

The air outside was supposed to be cold; however, for some reason, the air around me felt a little warm.

“It’s the end of the month, so we have to decide and prepare early.”

“You don’t have to be so enthusiastic.”

Sara said in a gentle voice.

I couldn’t help but gently pat her head.

As usual, I headed to the club activities after the boring class.

Sara seemed to have left before me.

“Rio, I need to talk to you about something.”

I called out to Rio, who was working on something at her desk in the calligraphy room.

“What? It’s unusual for you to ask for advice. Well, take a seat/have a seat.”

Rio looked up and suggested the empty seat next to her.

“Well, excuse me.”

I sat down in the seat next to Rio

“So, what’s the deal?”

“Oh, it’s Sara’s birthday this month. I don’t really know what kind of gift a girl would like. …”

I asked Rio for advice, a little embarrassed.

“What, Sara-chan, her birthday is this month?”

“Yes, it is, but…”

It seemed that Rio didn’t know about Sara’s birthday.

“So, just in case, I approached Rio, who is a girl, for advice.”

“What do you mean, “just in case”? But then again, you don’t seem to understand the female mind.”

I felt guilty, but it was also true, so I couldn’t refute.

“Hmmm, I guess so. What would a girl like? …”

Rio put her hand on her chin and began to think.

“Does Sara-chan use perfume on her days off?”

“No, I don’t think she was wearing any.”

I had gone out with Sara many times before, but I hadn’t seen any sign of her using perfume.

“So, what about accessories? A necklace or a ring?”

“Oh, She wears that.”

When she went out, she often wore a necklace because without it, her neck felt empty.

“Ja, why didn’t you say that before?”

“Thank you. You’ve been a big help.”

“Yes. I’m glad I could help you.”

I decided to follow Rio’s advice and buy some accessories.

Once I made the decision, I wanted to get it done.

Using the Internet, I began to research.

“Really, would you go that far for your sister?”

Rio muttered in a small voice as if she was dumbfounded.

“Maybe this would be nice.”

When I got home, I got on the computer to continue looking for a gift.

Finally, I found the one I was looking for.

It was a necklace with a garnet embedded in it. It was Sara’s birthstone.

And the stone word for garnet was ‘love and friendship’.
