I Became A System

It was merely a kill, but everyone's eyes were widened. They were surprised by the feat that Ellena did; that she mentioned that the one she killed was a demon. Providentially, I don't have to think of Ellena's safety since this group of people appears to be present to eradicate the giant monster.

Thus, I set aside, sitting at Ellena's side.

It appears that this isn't a normal monster, it's a variant and an S-rank. Though it's my first time seeing an S-rank variant, it should be just the same feat as normal demons.

The group prepared for combat with an abnormally sized being. Led by 7 young men, the group behind that exceed 50 keenly followed their orders.

The one in red and also who helped Ellena roared in his order. "Secure the area, surround that monster. Also, protect that lady from the excess power."

There, they unsheathed their unique personal weapons, enduring the growl of the giant ape. As it rumbled, a pressure that couldn't be easily withstand suppress the air in the surrounding. Men that surrounded it merely stand with their knees trembling on the ground.

The young man who stands to be the commander retracted a little bit before spitting blood because of the pressure.

They intervened with the meal of the monster, in return, it gave them suffering.

"This monster is strong. No wonder we have to prepare such huge numbers."

"The headquarters are right by the prowess we might meet. This isn't going to be simple."

As each one of them complains in their breath, the commander remained calm. Checking his breathing, he took out a weapon… a gun?

Although I said it was a gun, it wasn't a normal gun as it was designed similarly to shotguns but in handgun size. No, to be precise, it looks like a flare gun but it was a double-barrel.

My eyes widened in surprise. How could a gun be existing in this type of era? Moreover, in a fantasy world.

It's something that I didn't anticipate its existence.

However, it's not important. What's important is the output of that weapon! Why did I not think of recreating that weapon for Ellena's convenience!

As the monster was preparing for another growl, the commander lifted the gun in the air, pulling the trigger.

Even the mechanism is the same!

As soon as the trigger was pulled, a thundering bang resounded. Flame of fire flew straight to it, unable to escape due to its huge size.

Once it hit, a crisping sound echoed. As the same feature of the Evergreen Monkey, this monster should have the same weakness as them.

The commander smiled in delight before reloading the gun.

I am curious about it! Despite being in a position of danger, I can't handle the fun of curiosity through my veins! Does it took up mana from the surroundings or needed to be activated by a rune? Does it have bullets? Is it an amplifier of an ability?! I want to know!

However, no matter what I push for my curiosity, nothing will work as I am merely invisible to them.

Disgraceful of me, my composure seems to be ragged. I can only sigh as I realized it. What a shameful act it is. How can I act like that?

The fight continued without my knowledge. They seem to be near at obligating the monster to its death. Although they have casualties on their side, it wasn't bad luck for them since an S-rank variant isn't normal.

The monster used its spraying liquid ability, however, the seven young men didn't retreat as they already prepared themselves to dodge every drop of it.

I don't know the effect of that liquid since I was out for a moment, but I can sense that it has huge damage for them if they got hit.

Once again, a flame flew straight to the monster, but now it was towards its eye. As it got successfully landed, one of the seven young men was a mage that was preparing his spell. When it's done, he immediately releases it.

Boom!

A loud thundering sound resonated. It almost deafens the weaker men from the side. Now that it successfully connected, the monster showed a sign of fatigue.

"Prepare the capturing artifact!" The commander ordered.

Capturing Artifact? What's that? Don't tell me it's… no way.

They are planning to capture it! Did they know that they can't defeat it or it was just their mission to capture it alive? Although I don't know what is that artifact, isn't it dangerous to keep it alive?

Or they are just almost at their limits? I can see that the commander was sweating like a fall, almost nonstop. But taking a risk to capture it alive? What's the purpose?

Do they want to study it? Can I help? No! Stupid!

Moments later, while stalling the monster, a group of men in robes appeared near the assault line. They were carrying a huge object that appears to be a sphere object.

Is that the artifact?

Now… I am interested in it. What's the use of it? Does it have the same pocket dimension as the ability [Inventory]?

But no matter what my conclusion is resulting in, I must see it for myself.

"Extend the line, fuel it with mana."

Sooner, the men in robe fall in line, connecting with their hand on top of each men's shoulders in front of them.

They are connected like a train, though, they are glowing like a stick of light.

They are feeding that object with the mana from the surrounding.

I already know that mana is abundant here since a strong monster exists and it's secluded, but I don't know that you can gather mana to that extent.

Though I already have a grasp of it since seeing Ellena overusing her stamina, I was still speechless at their act.

"Capture it!" The commander yelled as the sphere glowed.

Another light appeared but that light wasn't present for illuminating the place. It's absorbing the whole body of the monster!

This is their capturing device?! It's amazing!

Minutes later, the monster disappeared in front of everybody, a sign that they successfully captured it.

What a breathtaking moment… That's such a view.

Oh! I almost forget Ellena. She appeared to be at peace. Thank goodness. Now the job I only need to do is to protect her from what will these men do to her.

I know that I can't fight them, however, I have guts to this commander of them that will save me from fighting.

He has this noble aura around him. Almost the same aura Ellena has.

Everyone celebrated their victory with a loud shout.

"Whooooo!!! A success mission!"

"That was great. It means that we are near to uncovering the existent of variants. Why do they have runes as humans have."

"Even we're miles away from uncovering demons. We can have a step forward at this moment."

"Don't get too complacent, that's a mere catch. That doesn't do much for the research team at the HQ."

"Even though it's S-rank?"

"Yes. It will just help a little since it's a different species."

"That's… still! This is a successful hunt!"

Although the commander seems to be not feeding them with too much recognition, they are respectfully answering his words.

Just how much is this young man too noble?

"Verxal, what do we need to do with her?" An executive-looking guy asked the commander.

"Oh! That's right. Let's carry her to the barracks. She at least needs to take a rest. Check the corpse she slew if it was a demon."

The guy approached the corpse of the old bastard while Verxal was heading to Ellena.

"Who are you? Why are you in this place?" He mumbled.

While on the other side, the guy checked the forehead of the chopped head. Then he moved to the body of it. He inspected it assuredly then come up with a conclusion.

He stood up and went back to Verxal.

Now it makes me wonder. What did he see?

"Verxal, it was a demon. I saw linings on the biceps and I can also tell that it was inhabited body since the linings were pale." He reported.

Verxal nods after hearing his report. "Okay. Thanks." Then she looked back to Ellena. "This girl must be an adventurer too like us.. She's strong if I must say it."
