I have an eye of truth
#3 - Eye of Truth
Having recovered a bit of strength, Wang Yang began planning his escape. He cautiously peeked outside, afraid of encountering that monster again.
Carefully observing, Wang Yang could faintly hear the sounds of battle coming from the city.
The constant explosions were probably the sounds of gunfire, but Wang Yang, unfamiliar with these things, couldn't identify the weapons or discern their power.
Perhaps the city had suffered too severe an attack, as the sounds of counterattack weren't very loud.
"Looks like I should find a weapon first." Wang Yang only had a machete, which he'd been using to clear the way. He hadn't had time to grab it earlier during the emergency, but now he finally could.
He didn't know if it would be useful, but it was better than nothing.
"Thump." The sound of something heavy landing behind him made Wang Yang jump like a startled rabbit. He quickly turned around, hoping it was just a rock falling.
But the reality was that a figure was climbing up from the ground.
"What is that? A zombie or a jiangshi? I'm warning you, don't come any closer, or I'll fight back!"
Wang Yang spoke incoherently. Although he'd prepared himself, he was still flustered when actually facing a monster. If the wall wasn't behind him, he probably would have turned and run.
The monster figure slowly walked towards Wang Yang, its terrifying face causing Wang Yang's heart to beat wildly again. "I'm warning you, I'm really going to fight back!"
Wang Yang held his backpack in his left hand, using it as a makeshift shield. There was no chance to escape now; the monster had blocked the way. If he tried to run, he'd at least get injured.
He didn't know if this thing was a zombie from legends. If it was, he didn't want to be infected and become a monster.
The zombie didn't care about that and continued to walk at a steady pace. Gradually, the monster got closer and closer, almost within reach. The monster reached out its claws to grab him, and Wang Yang instinctively blocked with his backpack.
But the monster's strength exceeded Wang Yang's expectations. It wasn't fast, but it was really strong.
With just one hand, the immense force almost made Wang Yang lose his grip on the backpack.
In this moment of crisis, Wang Yang didn't care anymore. His blood boiling, Wang Yang swung the machete in his hand at the monster's head. "I told you to come, told you to come..."
His eyes red, Wang Yang hacked away with the machete, as if to vent all his previous fear.
By the time he calmed down, the corpse in front of him had already fallen to the ground, its head chopped to pieces. Wang Yang felt like he couldn't feel his arms anymore; they were numb and almost without sensation.
The corpse was just like a human, and the surrounding minced meat... this was practically a slaughter scene.
A wave of nausea rose from his stomach, and Wang Yang couldn't help but gag.
After a while, Wang Yang, having vomited some stomach acid, finally recovered a little. If he hadn't skipped breakfast, he would have thrown up everywhere. But now, Wang Yang had no desire to eat anything.
He couldn't stay here. Everywhere was so dangerous.
Just as Wang Yang turned to leave, his gaze suddenly fell to the ground. Among the minced meat of the head he had chopped up, something was reflecting light, like a glass bead or a crystal.
"Could it be that there really are crystals in the heads of zombies? I wonder if it can give me power."
Feeling his weakness, Wang Yang's desire for power finally overcame his fear and disgust. He slowly approached and picked up the crystal. But the next moment, Wang Yang found that the crystal suddenly softened and then disappeared.
A force flowed directly from his palm into his body. "Oh no, am I going to be turned into a monster?"
Wang Yang was shocked and quickly retreated, shaking his arms, but it was no use.
That special power continued to rise along his arm, eventually entering his brain. A special area in the middle of his brain exploded with a roar. At that moment, Wang Yang felt like his head was about to explode.
When his consciousness cleared, Wang Yang found himself in a special space. No, this should be the legendary Sea of Consciousness. Although he didn't know how he knew about this place, Wang Yang just had that feeling. The surroundings were empty and hazy, as if there was nothing there.
Suddenly, sensing something, Wang Yang looked up and saw a strange eye above this space.
The eye flickered with cold and wise light, as if looking at him, yet also completely ignoring him.
"This, isn't that my necklace?" Wang Yang found that this eyeball seemed very familiar. Suddenly, he remembered that this was the image of a necklace toy from his childhood. He had seen it when he was cleaning up his house before entering the mountains this time, and then, on a whim, he had worn it.
"Could it be that you brought me to this world?"
Wang Yang thought to himself: "Since you can bring me here, then you can also take me back."
Wang Yang stepped forward and placed his hand on the eyeball, and then some information flowed into his mind.
"Eye of Truth, the eye that gazes upon truth, can absorb the power of the monsters I kill and then give it back to me? It also needs materials? What does this even mean?" Wang Yang felt this fragmented and incomplete information.
But he knew that he could gain power from the monsters he killed. The reason this eyeball woke up was because he had just killed a zombie-like monster. As for the feedback of power, he didn't feel it.
When Wang Yang opened his eyes again, his expression was no longer so flustered.
Although the situation was still dangerous, he now had something to rely on.
"I need to figure out how to use this thing. It seems I have to actively kill monsters." Wang Yang muttered to himself, his expression somewhat conflicted. Killing monsters was too dangerous, but if he didn't kill them, he wouldn't be able to go back.
"Forget it, if I don't dare to act now, I might die at any moment."
Even now, Wang Yang didn't know what situation he was in. He didn't dare to be certain that he could survive by hiding in this place. His supplies were limited, and once they were used up, he would really have nothing left.
At the very least, he had to struggle while he still had the strength.
