I have an eye of truth

#4 - Active Hunting

Scanning his surroundings, Wang Yang walked to the side and tore down the curtains, made of some unknown material, ripping them into strips. After wiping his palms dry, he bound the cleaver to his hand.

He moved it around a bit, feeling flexible. This way, the cleaver wouldn't easily slip from his grasp.

Grasping his only weapon, Wang Yang no longer looked at the corpse on the ground, but walked forward, beginning to explore the ruined building. Someone had lived in this place; there should be something here.

He walked cautiously, never before having moved so slowly.

Fortunately, he didn't encounter any monsters or dangers along the way.

However, after walking for a while, Wang Yang began to feel hungry. The previous activity had been too strenuous, and his body was starting to suffer. Besides, he hadn't eaten breakfast that morning, and it was already past lunchtime.

He had felt nauseous earlier, but now that he was hungry, he couldn't afford to be so picky.

Rummaging through his backpack, he found some food that hadn't been damaged by the zombie and devoured it. He finished it off with a bottle of mineral water, finally feeling much better.

After eating, Wang Yang got up again and continued exploring.

Entering through a broken doorway, Wang Yang habitually observed his surroundings. "Judging by the layout, this should be an office. I wonder if there's anything good here." Wang Yang cautiously examined the entire room.

After confirming that there were no monsters hiding inside, he entered and opened the drawers one by one. Suddenly, Wang Yang's eyes lit up as he pulled a pistol from one of the drawers. It looked like a pistol, anyway.

"Great, now I have a weapon!" Wang Yang was about to throw away the cleaver, but after thinking about it, he put it back in his backpack. "I've never used this thing before. How does it work? Let me think."

Wang Yang experimented little by little, following his memory. He removed the magazine, loaded the bullets, and finally released the safety, aiming at a decoration on the wall.

After several attempts, with a bang, the shot finally went off. However, his aim was a bit off. He was clearly aiming at the decoration, but the bullet hole was a meter away.

He truly regretted not learning how to use a gun. Wang Yang regretted it while shaking his wrist, which felt a bit numb. Although it was a pistol, the recoil was quite strong.

But this also meant that the pistol was powerful and had enough killing power.

Holding the pistol, Wang Yang continued his exploration.

The collapsed building was larger than he had imagined; he hadn't finished exploring it even after walking for so long.

Wang Yang didn't think it was because he was walking slowly; being cautious was the right thing to do. As he walked, Wang Yang suddenly heard a noise. It sounded like someone was walking, or perhaps someone was eating something.

Could it be a monster? Wang Yang cautiously walked forward and looked inside through the window.

At this sight, Wang Yang almost cried out in alarm. Inside, a creature resembling a hedgehog was lying prone, but it was huge, as big as a piglet. On the ground was a corpse, definitely human. Judging by the exposed legs and clothing, it should be a woman's body.

However, the person was now food for the hedgehog-like monster, being gnawed beyond recognition.

Wang Yang never imagined that he would see such a scene; this was the first corpse he had seen.

During the initial outbreak, the people inside should have run out. Not many hadn't made it out, otherwise he wouldn't have not encountered anyone until now. He didn't expect to encounter a zombie earlier and now a dead body.

Taking a deep breath, Wang Yang cheered himself up in his heart, then cautiously approached, reached out his hand, and pointed the pistol at the monster's head. The monster hadn't noticed him, and Wang Yang carefully aimed.

"No, not yet, it's too far. I might miss," Wang Yang muttered to himself.

He approached little by little, knowing that he only had one chance. Having never used a gun before, his previous shot had already proven how bad his marksmanship was. He didn't want to face this monster head-on.

He had been lucky when he encountered the zombie earlier. This was clearly a living thing; its speed shouldn't be too slow, right?

Suddenly, a soft sound came from under his feet, and Wang Yang cursed inwardly. Sure enough, the hedgehog-like monster raised its head, its ferocious eyes looking at Wang Yang, its gaze filled with a brutal light.

Wang Yang cursed in his heart. When he was testing the pistol earlier, the sound was so loud that it didn't notice, but now it noticed such a small sound. Damn it!

But now he didn't have time to think so much. The hedgehog suddenly turned its head and ran towards him. Its starting speed was not slow, and it was very close to him in the blink of an eye. Wang Yang didn't even think and fired a shot at the monster's head. Perhaps it was because it was close, but this shot directly hit the target.

Luckily, one of the hedgehog's eyeballs exploded on the spot. Wang Yang fired shot after shot until the magazine was empty before stopping. His heart was pounding wildly from the tension.

Looking at the hedgehog monster in front of him, it was completely dead.

"Damn it, I can't be so nervous next time. If there are more monsters, I'll be dead," Wang Yang pressed his chest, took a deep breath, and summarized the lesson in his heart. He was still too easily flustered; he should be more calm.

After recovering for a while, Wang Yang finally thought about what he should do.

"The Eye of Truth didn't directly absorb the monster's power. That must mean I have to touch the monster, or there's something inside the monster's body." Wang Yang thought of the crystal stone inside the zombie's head.

Thinking about it, it seemed that was really the case. Walking forward, Wang Yang carefully cut open the monster's already mangled head with a knife.

Even dead, the monster's head was still very tough, and it took a lot of effort to cut through the flesh. Wang Yang endured the disgust and stirred inside, suddenly touching something.

Carefully using the knife to pick out the thing inside, it was indeed a crystal stone, but this time it was gray.

Wang Yang didn't care so much and directly touched the crystal stone with his finger. A special feeling welled up in his heart. Wang Yang knew that as long as he was willing, he could absorb it.

"Wait, there's another special ability inside? So the Eye of Truth can allow me to absorb this ability, but it needs to consume the previously stored power? Then consume it."

Since he could gain power, Wang Yang didn't want to miss this opportunity. With a thought, a cold power spread along his finger.
