Chapter 32:Cornered

YEAR: 2161

LOCATION: Roadside, Sura District. Lagos Island, Nigeria.

TIME: 8:34 PM

Darey knew the location of his enemy, bit he was unsure of assaulting them. He analyzed his situation so far, and from what he had deduced, he had a slim chance of emerging victorious, especially given the unpredictability of the situation he faced.

The Future he knew had been altered, and so the events he knew according to his past life, except certain immovable ones, could not be relied on entirely.

"I used up quite a bit of energy against those agents..." Darey thought to himself.

"My energy reserves should be about 5 percent left. Can I pull this off?" He said in doubt.

He shook his head, this was no time for deliberation. He had to take action. Since his arrival to the past, everything had been under his control. He was never caught entirely by surprise, and he had always been a step ahead. But this time...

He was flustered, he was nervous, he was confused, he was weak... He was Alone! He thought he had left those things behind him in the ruined world... Guess he was wrong.

"It's been a while since I had this much difficulty, I'll have to get entirely serious." Darey said to himself.

Any mistake could cost him his life... Or his mom's life at the very least. She wasn't entirely necessary in the plan against the Reapers, but... He couldn't let her die!

Darey decided to shut everything else out and focus on one thing... The mission!

LOCATION: The Den

TIME: 9:51 PM

It took some time, but he finally arrived at the building location. It was one he knew well in his past life... The Den!

While at this point in time, it had not gotten any obvious or peculiar reputation, it was an execution site which would be discovered in the future when the Major General's corruption is exposed. This is where he executed many of his enemies. Such an obvious location, but effective. It was hiding in plain sight, but that was according to him.

He was confused about something. How was he expected to find the location so easily? Even if he was exceptional and the Major knew he had dug up enough information on him, this place was still far fetched, unless....

Darey was finally getting a grasp on the situation.

"So that's how it is... Well played Major. It seems this will be quite troublesome." Darey said to himself, smiling nervously.

The building was located in an abandoned building area controlled by one of Major General Lanre's dummy companies, and so it made a perfect haven for his atrocities.

Darey knew that after he had dealt with the enemy within, which would most likely be one of Lanre's lackeys and not Lanre himself, he would have to pay the Major General a visit. He knew Lanre would have gotten rid of any incriminating evidence which Darey had mentioned to him, and many others, just to play it safe.

He would have also killed or silenced a lot of people who knew about his illegal activities, at least the ones he was above. The other ones whom he couldn't directly interfere with, he would assume that Darey couldn't touch them, and even If he did, they would help him exterminate him.

Darey knew people like Major Lanre well, and he could play his game. But, he had let his guard down. He was too busy with grooming Tenny and Kyron, and was so focused on the Project, that he had totally neglected to finish the Major off.

"I underestimated him." Darey admitted to himself.

Darey decided to venture into the dark and abandoned building. Since the area was deserted, no one would notice the commotion that would be generated inside. This worked in his favor and against him. Both opponents would be trapped in a cage, and only one could venture out. Winner takes all.

Darey entered through the front door. He didn't have time to scout the building for any other less conspicuous entrances, and even if he found any, they would have already been laid out with traps. He felt he was playing right into the enemy's hands... But he had run out of options.

It was quiet, too quiet. He walked slowly, looking around him. Even though the building was dark, Darey could see fairly well. Normally his ULTRALUMINOUS VISION allowed him to see even better than usual in dark places, but since his power was down to 5 percent, he was in Energy Saving Mode. This meant that the effectiveness and power of most of his abilities would be reduced drastically.

"Welcome to The Den... Darey." A voice reverberated in the darkness.

"I would have asked who you are or what you want, but that's unnecessary. Let's cut through the chase. Let's end this!" He said.

"Oh, but it's the 'Chase' that makes things interesting, so let's take our time. Besides, why are you in such a hurry?" The voice returned.

A wicked chuckle filled the room. Darey couldn't locate the enemy, though he would pinpoint the origin of the sound soon enough. He wanted to use Complete Investigation to gain some information on the assaulter, but most of his abilities were unable at the moment. The only abilities he could use were his combative ones and useful passive ones such as the Ultraluminous Vision.

He would have to rely on his own skill for the most part, while saving up his energy for the real fight. The problem was that he was feeling really dizzy. He was nearly at his limit.

"I doubt I'd be able to last one more hour." He said to himself.

"Let's play a game!" The voice said. "I'll answer any one of your questions, but only if you can answer mine."

"And if I refuse?" Darey asked.

"We both know what happens then. I guess you'll never taste your mom's home cooking again." the voice responded mockingly.

A gruesome silence enveloped the room at this point. Darey sighed.

"Fine then... Let's play." Darey said.

"Good... Good boy." The voice responded. "My question is simple... How did you know this would be my location.?"

Darey was surprised. He never expected him to ask this question. Was it a trick? Was there a catch? How was he supposed to answer it? Darey breathed in. He chose the best option he had.

"I know it because I'm from the future. This place is eventually discovered and it becomes really famous for it's purpose. There... I've answered it" Darey said out rightly.

He decided to be honest, that would keep things simple.

"Amazing! To think you would go for the truth instead of lying." The voice said.

"Now it's your turn... Ask away!" The voice said excitedly.

"Oh, those are two questions. I can only answer one! Your mom is right here with me... Whether she's alive or not... I can not say." The voice responded, chuckling.

Darey was angry, flustered, tired, worried, and more. He messed up. He was too impatient and made an error in judgement.

"I knew that was what you'd say. Just as I knew you'd come here. Just as I knew that now would be the perfect moment to take you down. Just as I knew your mom would incite the best reaction from you. And... Just as I know you'll LOSE!" The voice declared.

Suddenly the building lit up, and the lights which had been off were switched on. The sudden exposure of his focused eyes to the light made him squint and groan in slight pain.

Darey recovered almost immediately, then looked before him. The man standing in front of him was his enemy. Tall, about 7ft. Black complexion, bending gait, savage look and narrowed eyes. Bushy hair, wide grin. Tattoo covering the entire upper area of his body, a large scar on his forehead. It was him...

"You... You're the Reaper...?" Darey said, his eyes widened in surprise.

He couldn't believe it. The man standing before him was the Reaper...?

Darey's eyes fell. He knew he couldn't win. Why? Because The Reaper was known as the perfect criminal, a popular symbol of fear in Nigeria, Darey's country. There were speculations on whether he was a foreigner or not due to his extreme dark complexion and his mysterious background.

He was caught eventually in the future by The Zenith, the most powerful ability organization in the world. Though it seemed like he had yet grown to the major threat he would most definitely become in the future, Darey knew of the most dangerous and troublesome aspect of The Reaper.

"You must know it by now right? My Special Ability." The Reaper said.

"A Perfect Crime." He said with a wide grin.

That's right... The Reaper's most dangerous aspect is his Special Ability. He can see future of his target, and the events that will occur depending on his interaction with them.

"Everything is all going accordingly. Boy... You've lost!" The Reaper said.

He had won!
