Kael Cor: A Vampire's Awakening

Chapter 422 - War Worries

Michael couldn't calm his beating heart, there was just so much worry etched within his bones as horror seemed to suffuse his body down to the very depths of his soul. And the fact that he couldn't see anything made it even worse. It wasn't all dark, his senses were sharper than most but this was still horrific. The war that they had heard so much about had come right to their doorstep, if he said he wasn't worried then he would be lying, he hadn't seen what the others could, but he had felt it, the horror of the collective, the stench of demons, and wails of people from Within the city.

This was absolutely not what he expected his break from school to be like, and even worse was the fact that his parents were still out there, and they were not back yet, neither had they sent a message back either. Which meant this wasn't one of those problems where his literal gods of parents could solve in an instant. The only person who seemed calm here was Cassiel, but perhaps there was more to it than he could see as, well he couldn't see, so her being so quiet might just be her own way to deal with what was going on.

However Mother Xaseah was pacing, it worried Michael because she was pregnant, and he wouldn't want anything to happen to her. He moved relying on sounds until his hand was wrapped around her own, he felt the coldness, ignoring what was on the surface to reach for the warmth within her, it met his, along with a secondary heartbeat… his baby sister within her wȯmb. He dragged her with him until she was sitting down on the couch they had lined around their hideout. This was probably the safest place in all of Ethernalia Leonis, if not for anything but for the fact that it was located in a pocket dimension in one of the world tree's roots, away from prying eye and with access only given to those of the Cor bloodline and their War bands.

"Mother what's happening out there?" Cassiel finally summoned the courage to ask, her voice weak and vibrating as she struggled yet failed to keep her fear hidden.

"Don't worry baby girl, they're doing fine and repelling the attackers… as usually, Ethernalia Leonis will prevail. Spero will survive. We should just be thankful that the other city states are not under attack, just the capital. It would have been hard to defend them seeing as the rest of the dragon kings are off world. But in the end their mistake was attacking when your father is around, your mother alone is a match for any high god being the goddess of the Moon herself and mother of the dark, but with your father in tow, they're the most unbeatable… the most… the.. No!"

Michael felt his heart drop to the pit of his stomach like a stone, he heard Cassiel asking Xaseah what was wrong, choosing to go for denial 8nstead of listening to the truth that was exposed to her. It was right there, singing from the bond they all shared as a family, the fact that one of those strings was no longer vibrating, it wasn't missing, it was just dull, empty, dead. Michael shook, as Cassiel's denial got too much for him, he ran out of the room, across the wide hall of their hideout, smashing through their obstacle course as his friends who were hiding out with them call out to him, he felt Cassiel reach out to him through the bond they shared, but he ignored it.

The first time she tried to since they were babies but he refused to answer her, he was the one closest to both their parents, both the mummy's boy and the Daddy's pride. So when his mother; Asha's bond experienced such a drastic change, followed by a wave of grief so powerful it almost brought him to his knees, he knew something had happened… something terrible… because he couldn't feel his mama again, and his father was going mad with grief. But he had to be sure, he had to know, he had to get them, he had to get to his parents.

Past the grand hall was the portal to the hideout, Michael jumped through, smashing his head on a low hanging pipe that cause a reverberation across the tunnel that led to the portal, the ringing disoriented him, his ears burned from the sensory overload as he held his hand out for the wall he knew was right next to him for balance. Then he shuffled forwards, moving at a brisk lace until he broke out into an all out run, panicked and shocked and scared, all so scared. He came into an antechamber, if he still had his sights he would notice that the chamber was graffiti, covered head to toe in colorful pictures depicting the War bands of both him and his sister and the legends they have created in the one year that they joined the war games of the city of Parrabellum. Sight or not he was still familiar with this place, finding the world tree root that had a small teleportation array and placing his hands on it immediately.

There was a whoosh, a sound of rushing wind and then the road of flames, screams of rage and death, and entwined with was energy, so much energy. Michael couldn't see in the normal sense, but to a certain extent the true forms of energy was exposed to him, and in that moment where his fear burned high, driving his adrenaline to all time heights he could see the lifeless body of his mother relived of her soul, and he watched as his father pushed his mother's soul and body out of the hands of glowing god, and into a black hole spinning with grey and purple light behind him. There were runes around the edge of the black hole, seemingly stabilizing the Singularity, but even if her would went through, Michael still saw as her body broke down into pulp of divine flesh and energy, ripped to pieces by the energies of the black hole.. Michael screamed, and as he did so the blindfold around his eyes was pulled down, exposing his gaze to the unforgiving world that had just robbed him of his mother.
