Leave The Monster Alone

Chapter 129 - The Thread In Motion Part 3

The resistance business was something Mark had to clear out sooner or later. With Alan with him, he had to make it a priority. The teen was still not accepted by the resistance and it might have put Mark on thin ice as well.

But he could not help feel this to be the right step. The suspicions would clear out soon enough and Alan was a big enough bargaining chip. If nothing else, he could even pain this experience as a tragic sob story to gain more sympathetic points with weaker hearted members of the resistance.

"Good, then here is what you need not tell the other" from Zeno's behaviour it was clear to see that the other was on edge but he at least believe the story Mark had painted for him.

Mark could only make an educated guess that Zeno had been given a prototype shot before things had begun and had been affected. Shiro should be somewhere near the end days when rebellion had been built.

He could only estimate it based on the power their body was emitting but if they had a good amount of control over it then it was a different case. However, since Zeno and Shiro were still young it was unlikely.

"I still cannot believe that you are like us. You feel closer to the one who gave me this power than and even my instincts scream at me that. Still, I cannot help but feel vary of you and even my mightiness cannot help me." Zeno, the loud sighed out those words and Mark was alert all at once.

Had it been a divine beast who had interfered with this process? Could it be possible?

Well, it was not impossible because Mark had already seen the snake and bull at various bases. Then there was the case of Suzy that had pretended to be human and Alan who was human.

A divine beast might have snuck inside the human team to carry this process out. But why? What was the gain?

Beside him Alan feeze at the accusation. He did not know what to say to that at all. How do you reply to an accusation like this?

"He does feel like a gentler version of my saviour as well and looks like I was not the only one. Still, there is no warning inside my mind so I think we can trust him. I also might have a trial for him if you allow it" Zeno pretended to give it a thought and then nodded at Shiro.

"You can speak your thoughts. If I do not like them then I will let you know" the female nodded to show that she understood but she did not care much for it.

It did not matter to her how useful or dangerous this teen was. Her saviour had not warned her of his presence so she did not care if he was a possible threat. Her saviour would let her know as he did with Mark.

But curiously enough, this was the first time she had heard Zeno mention a saviour as well. He had always harped about the gods and things she had not cared about but maybe she should have.

Maybe their saviour and his god were the same. Still, she had to pay attention to Mark and the other child for now. She needed him to trust him so that she could woo him from Mark's side onto her own.

She was sure once he cared enough she could weave him away with her story. Then he would help her out with her task and Mark would be no threat at all.

"Maybe he could help us plant the initial bombs? You know, the ones not meant to hurt but warm? The first attack?" not that they could not do this themselves but they were under security checks and it would be difficult.

Mark and Alan thought it would be easier for them since they were trusted by the other base people. No one would suspect them, especially the kid who was such a crowd favourite right now.

It would also give them enough time to make other plans and work on perfecting them. Besides, if the teen said anything then he would be the one in danger and not them. They could always use her and Zeno's powers after all.

"It won't hurt anyone right? I refuse to chronically hurt people by helping you" the kid was reluctant. Ah, he was still at that tender age where he believed that talks could solve things. It was cute but futile.

"Of course it will not hurt. Scientists say that the worst it would do is to give people headaches and small scratches. I find it an agreeable price if it means that they finally give us what we deserve" Zeno was another optimistic one but he was not shy from hurting others.

He had come a long way from the whiney boy who believed his powers alone could solve everything. In that regard, Mark's leaving had been a significant part of his maturing. Now he knew the sacrifices that needed to be made and he had agreed.

"But still, the normal people have done nothing. Aren't they a victim of it all?" Alan could not help but question this. His moral compass was bad but never this bad.

"They are no victims and their punishment is light. Do they not take extra resources that should belong to more needy people? Which of them have not wasted resources that could be put to better use here? Even you did but you finally decided to see it differently right?" Zeno almost yelled.

Alan had no answer for him because there was a certain truth to it all. He had seen people on the other base waste food, waste water and so much more just because they had it. Even if they had brought it with their own merits, they should not have the right to waste it.

But if he agreed then his point would be invalid. He did not believe hurting others was the right thing to do.

"Ultimately, it's your choice and yours alone. This will happen with or without your help and Mark would keep you quiet if he had to. Think it over a little more but I need a decision by tomorrow. And no funny business" Zeno's voice was his business one, finally void of all other emotions.

The flat tone screamed of finality and he was not likely going to take a 'no' well.

"I'll talk with him but we should go now. Liam has already started messaging me for a report" the ding in his system was not Liam's message but another quest he had known would come.

Great, another very long quest but at least this one had been expected by him. The system had been hinting at this for so long and the reward was just the chef's kiss. The last ingredient for the vial?

It could finally be finished and the new hope for humanity could be realised.

It was around this time as well when the real vial had been completed. No one knew how, but Rita had succeeded with Luna and his team's part. There would be 12 vials and 4 would survive for the future.

No one knew what happened with the rest of the 8 though which was a shame but still, was this what Mark's role was?

"So, is commander Liam saying something interesting? Care to share?" Zeno asked, his tone curious. Mark had spent more time on it than he should have. But he could use this information as well.

"He says Rika almost broke through with the vial. I need to go back and check in with him for more information" Zeno jolted at that information as did Shiro. They had been waiting for this information for so long.

"Ha-haha-hahahaha, you act like a lucky charm Mark. Fine, hurry up and go. Don't forget to confirm the plan though" well, the plan would have to be confirmed after all.

"You cannot be serious Mark. That plan is horrible and people would get hurt" Alan was right but it was no longer a 'cannot happen' scenario. It must happen and they had to be careful.

But first, Mark needed to get Alan to a safer space.
