Leave The Monster Alone

Chapter 191 - The Human Will - 2

Rather, it was better to say that he could not change it at all without alerting the higher power, the very thing they all had been trying to avoid this long and Mark had to play along for now. This all would end soon and Mark would witness the world that emerged beyond these hardships.

He only had so much to endure after all and he had already once gone through it. Luna would get through it as well soon enough and their story would have a happy end, whatever that meant for him. He had to just hold on for a little longer.

"Where are we? What is going on? Mark, is that you? What is this place?" Luna fired too fast for Mark to be able to answer him. But you had already expected these questions to show up sooner or later so he had prepared them. Well, the part of these questions he could answer actually.

"This pace is not real but you have to allow things to happen here. Remember, whatever you see here is not real" Mark was reminding himself as well as the teen in front of him. He had to be prepared because it was going to hurt a lot but he was not going to die.

He wondered if he would handle this better this time around since he had a divine core in him but the chances of that happening did not look that bright to him. The dogs in front of them morphed into the same monster as last time and Luna freaked out just as he had last time as well.

Mark had been prepared for this change so he did not scream at all. He had also been spooked when the change had initially started but he had adopted quite quickly this time around. The monsters advanced but Mark had an epiphany. What the Monsters actually attack him this time around?

The last time this scene had played out, Mark had been nothing more than a nobody. He had no influence in this whole thing but this time around he was the top dog. It was unlikely for the Monsters to attack him for any given reason.

In fact, from what he had observed the Monster should be afraid of him even coming close. If that was the case, then what would happen in this part of the story. Would he be replaced by someone else or would it play out the same as it had last time? He was not sure which one he preferred more.

"Look, they are running away" one of the constant headaches was having enough of the group chatting in front of him and turning around to leave the premises. His body language told Mark that he had no intention of attacking the higher-ups, namely Mark and his companion at the moment.

"He's going away" Luna sounded far too excited for such a moment and Mark wanted to inform him that was not good news for them for their timeline.

This was a huge change from the initial plan they had enacted and it changed a lot for them. So, the obvious cause of action would have to be for the case of the Monsters and making sure that they did not kill anyone else. If they did kill anyone else this crucial time, then there would be no telling but the time that would end up paying.

The space was telling him that something was wrong. It was forcing thoughts into his mind that had already happened and he had to fight back.

He wanted to live.

There was a gasp behind him, a terrified tone in that voice. However, how could that be possible at all? There was no one around, there was supposed to be one around.

The dogs turned toward the voice behind him and it made him tense even more. Was there another life to be lost along with him? Liam had never mentioned it but he had also refused to say anything about it.

This time Mark's body decided to turn around by itself. It felt as if something was controlling his actions and he could not stop it from moving at all.

As soon as he saw the face, he knew who it was. Luna - the teen he had met, the apparent protagonist of this world and perhaps the only hope of this world.

Mark could not allow him to die here. From the terrified expression on his face, Mark could tell that the teen had no idea of what was going on.

There was no one else in sight and the dogs were now full abominations of their former self, big and so scary that anyone would want to run away from them.

"W-What is going on? W-What are those things?" there was genuine fear in that voice and with a jolt, Mark realised the situation they were in. There was no way they were getting out of this situation alive.

The voice was back and it was still unclear. It talked in codes and words he had no idea how to actually decode.

But he could make out one thing clearly - Luna needed to live. The feeling was not his own at all, rather it felt as if it was forced upon him but Mark could not fight it.

Not in this state of mind.

So he allowed it to guide him and he lunged at the poor teen just as the monster made a swipe at him. It caught him at his side, the long nails enough to make him bleed out from there.

The teen in front of him looked shocked, a few drops of Mark's blood decorated his face and those pupils were blown wide enough to seem non-distinguishable from the iris.

"R-run. S-survive'' Mark managed to force out as his body throbbed. He would not be able to move, he was sure of it. Already the pain was getting too much to bear.

"W-what is going on here?" The teen was still frozen and Mark could understand it. The fear and the monsters who were watching them cautiously were too much to bear and this person here was just a teen.

"S-someone would explain. R-run now" Mark was sure that Liam would take care of everything. The teen seemed to hesitate but then surely the fear took over because he got up on his feet shakily and ran.

The monsters let out a growl and took a few steps to follow but Mark could not allow that at all. He had to take their attention away.

Again, he knew these thoughts were not his own. He would like nothing more than for those monsters to leave him alone in peace. Then maybe he would survive?

But his body and those foreign thoughts that were invading him made the decision for him on their own. He could feel his hands moving toward his pocket, his side hurting like hell and taking out his phone.

It was soon thrown toward the monsters which successfully pulled their attention. The fear and desperation to get out of here were pulling at his every cell now but his body would not allow it.

The monsters were at him in an instant and he felt himself choke as blood filled his mouth. The pain was everywhere and he closed his eyes, not wanting to see.

He would not be able to stomach the sight at all and he was losing consciousness now.

The pain was everywhere. Mark had opened his eyes in his bed and came to the horrible but relieving realisation that it had all likely been a dream. He was alive even if he was hurt in every part of the body.

He wanted to go back to sleep but the nightmare had eroded all the sleep from his eyes for the time being. Plus, he was hungry as there had not really been an opportunity for him to stop and eat.

But his body felt weird as if it was not his own and he was not supposed to be here was he. No, he was supposed to be out in the fields with Luna and Kuro and everyone else and his system had forced him into this situation alone. No, with Luna and he had to get them out but it was impossible.

And he was rambling which was not good because he was following something and his feet were moving. so this space and memories could not be read at all. The system was trying to overwhelm him to follow the same path as last time which was not possible. He was not a puppet.

But it was all in his head and the system file. No matter how much he saw those images, they would not happen this time around and Mark would personally ensure that it did not happen. He would kill those monsters this time around.. That was the only option left to him now which did not end up with telling the other side about his existence.
