Leave The Monster Alone

Chapter 205 - Rift - 1

Finally, I felt like he could take a deep breath and relax a little. He had only just taken a deep breath and allowed himself to sit down before he felt the danger in his surroundings. You only had a few seconds before he had to dodge The Attack coming his way. Luckily, The attack missed both him and the supercomputer behind him.

"I know you will be back sooner or later to try and take me down. You have not realized that it has been too late already." Was it his imagination, or had the AI talked differently? For the first time, those words looked like they were coming out of a human mouth instead of a program. There was something different about this AI this time around.

"Get out of there and try to keep him away from the supercomputer as well. I will need some time to revamp the base and work to virus out. We cannot allow anyone to interrupt us during this procedure" since the other had said this, there was only one thing left for Mark to do. He had to fight the other and get his attention focused on himself. This was the only way they could make sure that he did not foil their plan.

"Be careful. I can see the AI approaching you at a really fast speed. Make sure he does not render our whole plan useless. Keep him distracted" the warning came too late. The AI was already right in front of him and Mark felt the pressure from his presence.

He had to do something to get the other away from this area. If they fought here the supercomputer was surely going to blow up from the pressure and this had to be avoided at all costs. So, Mark had to carefully lead him outside.

The problem was that the AI was too sophisticated and intelligent for this kind of thing to be done. There were a lot of variables in this equation that had to be taken into account to make it possible and Mark was not that good of a combination to be able to pull this off on his own.

"Don't think unnecessary thoughts. Take him toward the back gate. The firewall shall help you keep him occupied. Liam, take over Mark's controls for me so that I can concentrate on breaking in" one second it had been Rao's voice in his ears, the next second it was Liam. He was much calmer than Rao had been, the edge of panic was present in his voice as well.

"Head outside. I will provide you with directions. Make sure you have the AI's attention on yourself" Mark nodded but he did not get a chance to do anything else before he had to run. The AI, for some reason, decided to follow him and Mark did not stop to look the gift horse in his mouth. If the AI was going to do what he wanted in the first place, then he had no complaints about it.

He ran as fast as he could, but even with the handicapped, he was not as fast as the AI. He felt other catch up to him and suddenly had to dodge the incoming pressure. He did not know how he knew it, but he just knew that the attack was coming from behind.

"Just a little more. We have almost reached the firewall section. We are in the circuit network right now and its cold place is getting more and more unstable" great, this was just the thing Mark wanted to hear from the other his life was really in a great risk right now and it was not all because of the AI who is actively trying to kill him.

He ducked into the next hallway, dodging attacks at the last second. It had been pure luck that he had not been hit by now but it was not going to last forever.

"You can relax a little now. We have reached the firewall area finally and I can take over for you" Mark relaxed a little but the tension did not dissipate from his frame entirely. There was still an edge to him that did not seem as if he had naturally gained it.

The AI entered after him, its eyes looking around for Mark but Mark knew he would not be found for some time now. The walls made a cracking sound and energy ruched out in the form of electricity to make the other back down. There was a hissing sound and Mark felt he breathe getting caught up in his throat as the other let out a bloody scream.

He had to remind himself that the other side was not human and all this was fake. The AI was trying to kill him and he had no business being sympathetic to it but he could not help himself. He was only human and it was really difficult to distract himself from the call for help.

But he somehow did as he turned around. The screams died down and the AI was finally out down. Or that was what was supposed to happen but it did not happen like that. There was pressure on his back once again and Mark felt the attack coming his way.

He somehow managed to get out of the way in the nick of time before the attack tore apart the wall it had hit. It had been an attack aimed to kill and he had to gulp down at the power it had contained inside it. It had been no mere attack, but a weapon of mass destruction the other had unleashed.

"I do not think we quite managed to get him this time. And he looks really angry now as well" Mark gulped down his saliva in fear. He did not want to die right now but it felt as if his end was coming. The AI approached him with slow and deliberate steps.

The other no longer even remotely looked human. There was a weird energy around the AI that screamed death. The closer he came the worse the air seemed to become for Mark. It was as if the other was corrupting the air itself. The pressure exerted was also very formidable.

Mark found it too hard to breathe, but at least he was distracting the other from going after the supercomputer. If the other reach the core before Rao, then everything would come to an end. Mark had sacrificed too much to allow this to happen. I just hope that Rao would be able to handle it all.

"How much longer does Rao need? I will not be able to keep him away for much longer. Tell him to hurry up and finish the hacking, would you?" The AI was on top of him, his claws inches away from Mark's throat, about to serve it once again. It looked like Mark was going to die once again. There was nothing to do but accept his fate now. We were always meant to die in this world, but he had a chance to make it better.

"Don't worry, I took the liberty to arrange some help for you" Mark at those words. Rao must have wasted a lot of time doing this so was it worth the hassle? Even Mark, who was in the direct line of conflict felt the other didn't have to do so but you also felt glad to have this kind of attention.

There was the sound of gunfire before he felt something sink into the body in front of him. The AI did not seem to be affected by the short much, but his speed did drop which gave Mark enough of an advantage.

It made it easier for Mark to get away from his clutches and he hurried up to leave the place. The AI thankfully followed behind him and did not go back to the factory. This was what he had been aiming for since the start. Whatever had made that shot, it had been enough to turn the tides of this match for now.

Now it was a game of cat and mouse which Mark did not have to win. He just had to make sure the other did not catch him before the time was up and he could live happily ever after. The other ran after him, the claws trying to get a hold on Mark but it was proving to be impossible at the moment. Mark was just too agile for the other side to be able to contain.

Mark took another turn, moving his body every way he could to run away from the AI. It was a tough chase but a rewarding one. Once in a while, a shot ran through their surroundings and made it difficult for the AI to continue to chase Mark. it was a four-way showdown now and time was ticking away.. Mark just hoped Rao knew what he was doing and finished his work in time.
