"Huff. Damn it all!"

Captain Neal cursed under her lips as she looked at the monster before her.

"Why do they have to be scattered all over the place? Haaa!"

She took a deep breath and started to cast another spell. The high-level spell would take her a while to be completed, so she took a few steps back to avoid the monster.

The situation was really annoying for her. Monsters were roaming in the city, attacking and damaging everything right when most of their forces were focused somewhere else. That alone was enough to give her a headache.

She was an expert when it came to fighting monsters. She wasn't the captain of Monster Hunting Division for no reason after all. But still, it was hard to fight a big number of monsters while trying to control her strength and avoid hitting buildings and the trapped people.

Even more, the monsters were all scattered here and there, making it harder for her to locate each and kill them.

-SHH... Reporting the situation to all of the units. A group of monsters has invaded the city center. I repeat. A large group of monsters has invaded the city center. This is a level 3 danger situation. I repeat. A level 3 danger situation. All the agents please contact your superiors to further instructions.

It was at that moment that she received the news through the communication tool. The news wasn't good news at all. It meant that the scale of the attack was even larger than she imagined.

"The teams must be out by now. Things will be taken care of soon."

Thinking that way, she continued to cast the spell.

The high-level spell was complicated and hard to cast even for her, it also used up a great amount of her mana, still, it was the best spell to use in this situation.

The spell formula for this magic wasn't a set one. It would change depending on the caster's situation and desire. After being cast, the magic could divide itself into several parts and find its target on its own using the information out in the spell by the caster.

That was why she could kill at least 5 and at most 10 monsters with a single spell. She didn't need to search for them one by one, unlike what the others did. Even though, she had to keep running around to find a group of monsters to target.

Just when she was about to finish the spell, she suddenly stopped and jerked her head towards somewhere.

"...!!"

She could sense the pressure of a monster not too far away from where she was standing. She cautiously took one step towards where the pressure was coming from while quickly proceeding to complete her spell. She could see the huge body of a scorpion standing at the end of the street when she walked a little bit closer.

'It's a strong one. I have to take it down first...'

The captain walked a little bit closer to the monster. She could see a group of people who were cornered by the monster, shivering in fear.

There was an old man, a woman with a baby, a teenage boy, and a thin man. They were looking around as if they were hoping that someone would show up and save them. They were even saying some things among themselves, but the captain couldn't hear them at all.

'Should I just finish the spell halfway through? It'll be weaker but I can get rid of that scorpion faster...'

Captain Neal looked back between the people and the scorpion. The monster would kill all of those people if she wasted her time thinking and calculating things.

'Let's just kill it first.'

She quickly made her decision. She would gladly waster her mana if she was to save more people.

Just when she was about to finish the spell halfway and attack the scorpion, the monster suddenly screamed.

KIEE??

The monster quickly jerked its head and looked up at the sky, then started moving back from the people. The monster shook its tail viciously while glaring at something in the sky.

KIEE! KI!

'What the-'

Captain Neal turned to look at where the monster was staring at subconsciously. There, he saw a big dot floating in the sky with some shiny dots all around it. She could sense magic from that thing in the air once she focused on it.

Before she could understand what was going on, one of those shiny things moved down. It was as if the thing was shot towards the monster. The thing approached the monster at a high speed, leaving a bright light behind where it had passed.

KIEEE!!

The monster attempted to move back and dodge, but the thing hit the monster before it could do anything and then exploded.

KIEEE

The scorpion screeched loudly after getting hit and shook vigorously. When the dust that had risen due to the explosion settled down, what everybody around saw was a scorpion with half of its body gone.

"...."

"...."

"...."

"...."

The people trapped in a corner blankly stared at the monster, before turning their heads to look up.

"...."

Captain Neal looked back between the dot and the monster in shock.

'That was a magic attack...'

What happened to the monster? Where did that attack come from? She was sure that the attack wasn't that strong, how could it damage the monster that much?

However, that wasn't the end.

SWOSH SWOSH

As soon as the dust was settled and the monster could be seen again, two other attacks were fired towards the monster.

KIE-

The monster couldn't even make a proper noise before its whole body turned to ashes.

"....."

Captain Neal stared at the dot floating in the air with her mouth wide open.

'I can't see it clearly... Is that a person? A mage?'

The attacks didn't stop even after the scorpion was dead. The shiny dots were continuously created and shot towards other monsters in the vicinity.

Captain Neal felt the different pressures that she was getting from monsters all around in this area vanish one by one.

"...."

The captain subconsciously took one step towards where the dot was floating. She had completely forgotten about the situation she was in. She just wanted to know what was going on. Not that she could do anything anyway, nearly all of the monsters near this place were dead.

'My spell is wasted...'

But she didn't feel mad at all because of that. Captain Neal ran towards the dot as fast as she could.

. . . . . . . .

Kairen looked down on the monsters that were dying under his attacks.

"This is much easier this way. Why didn't I do this before?"

He continuously created energy beams and shot them towards all of the monsters that he spotted. Most of the monsters in the vicinity were cleared before long.

-KAIREN!!

"EEK!"

The loud yelling that suddenly came through the communication tool startled the shit out of him.

-WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?

Kairen massaged his ear that was sore because of the loud yell.

"Why are you yelling at me all of a sudden, Reyan?"

-I ASKED WHAT THE FUCK ARE DOING UP THERE?

Kairen took off the communication device and held it in his hand. His ear was throbbing.

"I am killing monster? What else would I be doing while floating in the air?"

-GET THE HELL DOWN HERE!

Kairen frowned at those words.

"I don't want to. It's easier to kill them from up here-"

-I SAID GET THE FUCK DOWN HERE!

"SHUT UP! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

There was a brief silence before Reyan talked again.

-...DID YOU JUST YELL AT ME?

"...."

Kairen gulped. Reyan's voice sounded really scary all of a sudden.

"N-No."

Kairen moved the communication device and distanced it from his face.

"OOOH! RE... REYAN!... THE... DE...VICE...SHH... ISN'T... WORKING...PRO...PERLY...UP HERE... SHHH... SHHH... I CAN'T... SHH... HEAR YOU... SHH SHH..."

-What the fuck-

Kairen turned off the communication device and placed it in his pocket.

'I hope he won't beat the shit out of me later...'

He prayed under his lips and looked around. There were still a few unused energy beams left. Kairen searched for monsters to use the last energy beams on.

"There are nearly no monsters left here... I had to go down and walk to another place anyway."

Kairen searched for the remaining monsters while moving down slowly.

"One there..."

There was a remaining mone right below his feet. He must've missed when he shot the beam towards it before, or maybe one energy beam wasn't enough to kill it. Kairen hadn't spotted it since it was hard to see right under his feet when he was in the sky.

Tap

Kairen smoothly landed on the ground somewhere near the monster.

"Why can't I move in the air while floating?"

He thought it would be much easier if he could do that. He wouldn't need to come down and walk to another area if he could just float in the air.

GIAA

Kairen turned to the monster after hearing its screech. He examined the monster's state. It was injured, but not dead.

"What the-"

Just when he was about to attack the monster again, he heard a woman's voice from behind.

"W-What? Huff. T-that thing. Huff. It was you? Huff. Huff."

Kairen looked at captain Neal with confusion.. She was panting heavily as if she had come here running from far away and she was staring at Kairen with her eyes wide open.
