Chapter 128 - SFB!
"Can you explain the situation please?"
Team leader Dains moved back a little bit so that everybody could see his face.
"We've found the possible location of the culprit behind the monster breakout. We won't attack or act rashly until we are sure that this is the right place. So I ask you to follow my orders for today."
The members of unit 6 looked at each other with surprised faces. They seemed to have no idea about what is going on, but they obeyed nonetheless.
"Yes, sir."
Kain talked on behalf of the whole group.
After getting the answer that he was waiting for, the team leader continued to explain.
"This is supposed to be a secret mission. Even though we have mages that are skilled with stealth spells, we can't use them here. There might be devices installed around the hideout that can detect mana, so we can't use magic at all costs. All we can do is stay hidden and not attract any attention."
Team leader Dains started to explain the plan for the whole group and talked about how they had to stay hidden and what they were supposed to do.
"Let's start moving if everyone is ready."
Upon hearing that, the people fixed their uniforms and checked their weapons for the last time.
Kairen also fixed his clothes and wore the final piece of the uniform, which was a mask that covered almost all of his face.
It was made so that the agents' identities wouldn't get exposed to the enemies during a mission and a fight.
'I heard some incidents happened due to the individuals' identities getting known by the enemies.'
There were a few cases of the agents' families getting kidnapped or killed in order to force the agent, team leader, or the organization to do what the criminal wanted.
Since then, it became a must to wear masks in every mission.
When they went to rescue Kain on their final mission as a cadet, they saw unit 6's agents' faces because their masks were broken.
The enemies target the masks most of the time to distract the agents.
'But I don't have a family...'
Kairen peeked, actually glared, at the other team's deputy team leader who was visibly avoiding him and shook his head.
'Whatever.'
Kairen swore a few times inwardly and wore the mask, following behind the others.
They had to stay hidden.
'How are we supposed to stay hidden in such a place.'
Shouldn't they go up the trees or hide behind the bushes if they want to hide?
Others might be able to move in secret, but what were the mages supposed to do?
That was what Kairen thought at first.
To his surprise, there was no need for them to put a lot of effort into hiding.
Tap
After walking for a little bit, team leader Dains raised his hand to tell everyone to stop moving.
He then pointed at a button on his uniform. As soon as the agents saw that, they all pressed the similar button that was on everybody's uniforms.
'What is it?'
Kairen looked at the button on his uniform and pressed it like the others.
"...."
But nothing happened.
He looked at the others who had also pressed the button and were now starting to move again.
'What did we do that for?'
"Sigh."
Seeing his dumbfounded face, Reyan walked closed and whispered something to his ear.
"Cutting-edge technology, Kairen! It makes our traces vanish completely. Also hides most parts of our sounds, movements, and even our bodies."
"Huh?"
Kairen looked down at the tiny button.
'This little thing does all of that?'
"We see and hear each other because of a function of the uniforms that detect the ones nearby who have the same device on them. Still, it is not omnipotent, so its effect will disappear if you are not careful. And it also has a time limit so don't waste your time and get moving. Got it?"
Nod Nod.
Kairen nodded his head and soundlessly followed everyone.
. . . . . .
He looked away from the hole and closed his eyes.
'Man, my eyes are sore! That fucking bastard didn't even give me a weapon!'
He stretched his numb legs and leaned against the wall.
'When will they arrive? I've been sitting in this tiny place for half a day already! Those lazy assholes call themselves agents!'
He nagged inwardly and turned again to look inside through the hole.
He could see a person talking to a bunch of people in the distance.
People were all following his orders without even asking a single question. Even the man who everyone called 'Boss' followed that man's orders.
'He must be at a higher level than a small hideout's boss.'
He even heard them call the man 'The Fifth'.
He wondered for a while about the meaning behind that but gave up at the end.
It was those bastards' job to find out about that, not him.
Just when he was about to look away from the hole again, he sensed something move.
SHHH
'...!!'
He jerked his head to his side upon sensing a presence just beside himself, only to see someone sitting right next to him.
'!!!!!'
"What-"
"Shhh!"
The man raised his finger and put it close to his face. Even though the man's face was hidden, it was obvious that he meant that they had to be quiet.
"What the fuck! Who the hell are you?"
He lowered his voice while making sure that his first words were curse words.
"Oh, boy. You are the one stalking us and are asking who I am? Who are you?"
He now remembered who this person was.
He had seen this man before when he first found this place.
He was the one who could control soil.
"How the hell did you find me?"
The other person moved a little bit and lowered his head, trying to fit in the tiny hole that he had been hiding inside for half a day.
"What do you mean? You walk, dig, and hide in the ground, and expect me not to notice?"
'He knew I was here from the beginning? Is it because of his power?'
Then, wouldn't he be able to find out that there were a huge group of people walking this way?
"What the fuck do you want from me?"
The man moved his hand up and down.
"Dude just chill! You are being too harsh! You are the one spying! I should be asking you that question."
The man looked around for a moment before lowering his voice a little bit more.
"Are you working for that... um... That..."
The man stopped and thought for a few seconds.
"Those dudes!"
He blinked a few times and tilted his head.
"Those dudes?"
The man nodded his head.
"Yeah, I mean that group... What was it? SNE?"
"...."
The man touched his chin.
"That stood out for some military something..."
"Do you mean SFB?"
"Oh?"
'Yeah, it's them. Stupid Fucking Bastards.'
Of course, he didn't say that out loud.
The man tilted his head.
"Was that it? It indeed had an 'S' in the name... Whatever. Do you work for them?"
'What is wrong with this bastard?'
He didn't understand the situation at all.
Where and how and why did the man come here?
Was he here to fight? Did he come to capture him?
Why was he talking to him like that now?
Should he answer him? Should he run away? Should he keep talking to him until the agents arrive?
He didn't have a weapon so he couldn't even defend himself if that man attacked him.
"What makes you think I work for them?"
He decided to keep talking with the man for now. If he was lucky enough, he could keep him here until the others arrived.
"Why not? You've been spying on us for a while now. Why would someone do such a thing if he isn't an agent or something like that?"
The man said that, but his voice was kind of hesitant.
The man looked at him up and down. He stared at the chickens printed on his pajamas and tilted his head.
"Maybe they go on missions wearing these things in here..."
He could hear the man mumble those things under his lips to himself.
The man raised his head and looked at him again as if he was demanding an answer.
"Nah. I'm just a lost traveler who accidentally found this place while searching for a place to pee."
"...."
The man looked around. All he saw was a vast, dry land. He then nodded his head.
"I see. So you work for SFB... I knew we were the bad guys... Hmmm..."
"Nah! Are you fucking dumb? I said I was looking for a place to pee!"
The man looked around again.
"We have a toilet inside. Do you want to try it?"
"No. I prefer natural toilets."
"I see."
The man nodded his head and sighed.
"Mr. Heeyyyy! We've got to go! Where are you???"
They heard the loud voice of a girl at that moment.
"It's too hot out here! Come on! We've got to go!"
The sound was getting closer and closer.
"...."
"...."
The two men looked at each other for a moment.
"Well then!"
Then the man suddenly got up and dusted his clothes. He turned his head and looked at a place far on the horizon.
"The other SFB's seem to be here already."
He then looked down.
"Good luck, SFB! It was fun talking to you!"
He jumped out of the tiny place where the two of them were hiding and walked towards the girl.
"Where the hell were you? I was looking for you all over the place."
"...."
"Yes Yes! You don't talk at all! A mysterious man! Woo! Soooo mysterious that he doesn't even talk."
"...."
The girl continued to talk, but unlike before when the two men were talking, the man didn't even open his mouth.
"Ah? I forgot to ask about the target's coordinates. Hurry hurry! We've got to go inside again."
"...."
The girl grabbed the man's arm and dragged him somewhere, saying that they had to hurry. And the two of them started to walk away from him.
'What the fuck!'
He was bewildered.
'Who the hell was he? What did he do that for?'
He was unable to understand the situation.
Team leader Dains moved back a little bit so that everybody could see his face.
