'Aren't Gu YuChen and I friends?'

Su Ning thought to herself, clearly feeling conflicted. However, before Su Ning could come to a conclusion on this matter brought up by Lin Miao, a series of soft knocks could be heard from her bedroom door.

** knock knock knock **

The young girl quickly clicked out of her VeChat screen and awkwardly called out, "Come in!"

Her bedroom door opened slightly and the young man's handsome face became visible. 

"NingNing is not yet planning to sleep?" Gu YuChen asked softly.

"Ah, not yet. I was chatting with MiaoMiao. What's up YuChen-ge?" Su Ning answered a bit nervously.

"Mm, I heard some sounds from your room. I thought you were having a nightmare so I brought you some warm milk to help you sleep," the young man explained. As usual, Gu YuChen didn't have much expression on his face but for some reason his affectionate actions made Su Ning feel warm inside.

"Ahh..," she uttered, swallowing a lump in her throat. "Thank you, I'll have some." Su Ning reached out and waited for Gu YuChen to walk over and hand her the drink. 'This feels really nice. More and more, I'm starting to think that it will be unbearable to live without these two,' she thought, biting her lower lip.

Gu YuChen sat by Su Ning's bedside and waited patiently as the teen drank the beverage under his watchful eyes. 

"YuChen-ge, why are you not asleep? You're not working are you?" Su Ning asked suspiciously.

"Not working," Gu YuChen responded, shaking his head.

"…" Su Ning narrowed her eyes at her friend.

"I was making skins for the game," Gu YuChen confessed and Su Ning gave him a deadpan look.

"That's work," she said bluntly.

"It's…not. Let me show you," Gu YuChen quietly argued.

The skin he had been working on was of Star wearing a blush pink bustier corset gown with tiers of tulle ruffled full length skirt. Star was sitting on the diving board of the neptune pool in Hearst Castle singing 'mei ren yu' by Vivian Hsu. That's right, singing. Her voice could actually be heard when you click on the skin.

Author's Note: Mei ren yu means mermaid. Σ(￣o￣lll)

"Oh my goodness. How did you get this song?!" Su Ning exclaimed, evidently surprised. Su Ning had recorded the song in Lin JinYan's studio back in Cambridge to test out his equipment. She had not anticipated Gu YuChen to actually make use of it. 

"Lin JinYan gave me the recording. Do you like it?" Gu YuChen asked nervously.

"It's… it's beautiful. Uh… ha ha ha somehow.. I think people will have a misconception of what I actually look like," Su Ning answered abashedly.

Gu YuChen looked somewhat confused; however, he still insisted, "But this IS what NingNing looks like."

'Wow this kid thinks way too highly of me, lah.' Su Ning snickered to herself.

"Uhh… nooooo. Ha ha ha this is maybe what I look like with a lot of photoshop and filtering," she laughingly explained.

"…." (Gu YuChen)

"But really it's beautiful, I like it. Thank you. You're making sure to create skins for the other characters too right?" Su Ning asked interestedly.

However, Gu YuChen responded flippantly, "I have another person working on it."

"..." 'This kind of treatment is too different, bah,' she thought to herself. But she had to admit, it did make her feel good to be treated specially by Gu YuChen.

"Oh! I almost forgot to tell you! Someone recognized me as Star!" Su Ning piped out.

"Oh?" Gu YuChen muttered, his brows slightly furrowed.

"En! He's a member of the food tasting club, Allen! He loves Star's World, he competes in all the server events. Ha ha ha! You'll meet all of them when we go to Kyoto this weekend," Su Ning chirped delightedly. 

"Kyoto?" Gu YuChen asked, looking perplexed.

"Yeah that's where we'll go for my club's day trip. You'll come right?" Su Ning entreated. 

As expected, Gu YuChen relented and responded generously, "If NingNing wants."

After their lighthearted chat, Su Ning let Gu YuChen tuck her into bed and she fell asleep within a few minutes. On the other hand, Gu YuChen stayed by the girl's bedside and didn't leave until he heard her even breathing. Noticing that the girl's phone was near the edge of the bed, he made a move to place it on the nightstand. Unexpectedly,  at that moment several texts flashed on the phone's screen. 

[KittyMiao]: NingNing are you asleep.

[KittyMiao]: You should really think about it.

[KittyMiao]: Can you see yourself dating him?

[KittyMiao]: I think you two would look good together.

Gu YuChen's eyes widened at the sight of Lin Miao's messages. 'NingNing is thinking of dating someone? Could it be that man Allen that she mentioned?' he wondered with a conflicted look on his face. He knew that he would eventually have to come to terms with Su Ning getting a boyfriend but he didn't anticipate for it to come so soon. 'I'll need to meet that man to make sure he's good enough for Su Ning.' Gu YuChen's hand gripped the phone for a few seconds before finally releasing it gently on the bed stand.

Back in C Country, Lin Miao had just unknowingly created a misunderstanding.

The next morning, Su Ning woke up at 8am to make breakfast only to find a spread of her favorite foods already on the table: congee with century egg, hot soymilk, tea eggs, and wontons. Gu YuChen was standing by the stovetop wearing Su Ning's cute pink apron cooking cong you bing. 

Author's Note: Cong you bing is fried scallion pancakes. This author-nim prefers her pancake flaky and crispy! (σ≧▽≦)σ

Su Ning thought back to the texts her friend Lin Miao had sent, and to be honest she really didn't know how to answer. She didn't want to answer. The relationship she had with Gu YuChen and Lin JinYan was already perfect the way it was. However, seeing the young man like this, something in the back of her mind would whisper. 'Isn't Gu YuChen wonderful? He'd make such a nice and loving boyfriend.' Almost immediately,Su Ning would shake her head free of those frivolous musings and remind herself that young man was her best friend, not to mention he would likely be the ceo of Gu Corp Ltd in the future. That was all it took to bring her back to reality. Once again she would be calm.

Maybe if their situation had been different and she was a different person, Su Ning would have probably said yes to the latter's question. Deep in her heart, Su Ning could imagine it but she would never say it out loud. 

Whilst Su Ning was in the midst of her daydreams, the scent of the freshly made breakfast softly flitted to her nose. Su Ning instinctively smiled and began to take a couple of bites of the food on the table. Then with her mouth bulging with 3 pieces of wontons, Su Ning slowly crept towards her friend, fully intending to surprise him. However, as expected, it was Su Ning who was taken off guard instead.

"NingNing, eat slowly. You'll choke on your food," Gu YuChen spoke with his back turned towards the girl.

** cough cough cough **

"Oow id uff ngoow? (How did you know?)" Su Ning asked, looking flabbergasted as she attempted to quickly swallow the food in her mouth.

"I could tell since you came out of the room," he said, turning to look towards her with a soft smile on his lips.

"How?!" Su Ning demanded.

But Gu YuChen merely shook his head and muttered,  "Not telling."

"Ho! YuChen-ge you've really grown up. You're so fearless now," Su Ning commented with her arms crossed.

"Silly girl, go sit at the table," Gu YuChen gestured with his head as he walked over with a plate of cong you bing.

"He he. YuChen-ge, these are all my favorites," she mentioned with a wide grin.

"I know. I saw the ingredients in the fridge," he responded.

"He he he. YuChen-ge is so good at taking hints," she said while wiggling her eyebrows.

After taking several bites of her meal

"Oh, what do you have planned today?" Su Ning asked with bright eyes and a mouth full of food, her cheeks puffed up like a squirrel.

"I'll drop you off at school and then I'll wait for you at home," he responded.

"You wont pick me up?!" she asked, looking aggrieved.

"I'll pick you up as well," he replied, chuckling  and shaking his head.

"YuChen-ge you are like a househusband!" Su Ning commented and gave her friend a thumbs up.

"Mm," Gu YuChen agreed in a conciliatory manner.

"He he he! Hao hen hao!" Su Ning delightedly cried out as she continued happily eating her breakfast. Having Gu YuChen stay with me is the best. I can't wait to introduce him to my friends at Handai.
