Chapter 120: Will You Protect His Chastity As Well?

"So, NingNing wants to protect my chastity?"

Su Ning didn't think twice upon hearing Gu YuChen's question. "En! Exactly," she answered, nodding vigorously.

"Why?" Gu YuChen asked once more.

"Well, you're my…. my.. my best friend," Su Ning stuttered, it seemed she had some difficulty finding the words to describe their relationship. "So I have to take care of you," she added.

"Ah," he said softly before asking Su Ning another question. "Will you take care of Lin JinYan like this too?"

But the girl didn't answer his question and instead retorted exasperatedly,  "Yah! Why do you have so many questions?" 'Is he comparing himself to Lin JinYan? Why do these kids always have to compete with each other?' she wondered.

"I need to know all the facts to make an informed decision," Gu YuChen responded in an even voice. His face was devoid of expression as usual but if one were to look deeper, he or she would be able to tell that the man was unusually serious. He truly wanted to know how Su Ning intended to treat Lin JinYan. Were they still equally important in her eyes? Or perhaps, maybe just maybe she had grown to like him a bit more? There were questions he was unable to ask her outright.

"Gu YuChen…." Su Ning warned through gritted teeth.

"What?" Gu YuChen responded easily.

'He's going to keep at it,' Su Ning thought. The young girl looked at the passing scenery for a few minutes before responding, "I don't know. Lin JinYan doesn't seem to have anyone he's interested in. So, I'm not sure." 'Would I act like this when it comes to Lin JinYan? I wonder.'

"Are you sure?" the man beside her asked quietly.

"Huh?" Su Ning asked confusedly. 'Sure about what? That I'll treat Lin JinYan the same? I already said I didn't know,' she thought, a frown settling on her beautiful face.

"Lin JinYan doesn't like anyone?" Gu YuChen clarified, noticing Su Ning's confusion.

"Ah Well.. he would tell me right? And he hasn't told me anything so… no, bah," Su Ning responded.

Hearing Su Ning's naive explanation, Gu YuChen burst out in a quiet, wry laugh. 'At least this evens out the playing field between Lin JinYan and myself, maybe even that other person as well,' Gu YuChen thought sardonically.

"Why are you laughing?" Su Ning demanded. Instinctively, she felt that the man was laughing at her.

"Nevermind," Gu YuChen simply said casually, ending the conversation.

"Tell me," Su Ning prodded. For several minutes, she nudged and bothered the young man incessantly for an answer. 

As expected, Gu YuChen eventually relented. However, he didn't intend to make it easy for Su Ning. Instead of answering her question, he asked instead, "I'm just curious. If you'd give JinYan the same consideration as you do me. Will you protect his chastity as well?" 

'Ah! Zurui! Why would you answer a question with another question!' thought the girl

"I… I… I'm not sure," Su Ning admitted after some thought.

Author's Note: Zurui means So Cunning or So sly. (ฅ`ω´ฅ)

"I see," he responded with a half smile.

After observing Gu YuChen's expressions, Su Ning finally realized that she really couldn't understand what her friend was thinking. 'Since when did this happen?' she wondered. Before, even though Gu YuChen had appeared to have facial paralysis, Su Ning was still able to quite accurately guess what was on his mind. 'I don't like this,' she realized. There was an invisible wall between her and Gu YuChen.

However, she didn't delve into these misgivings and attempted to continue with her tirade, "But… but.. still. Right now I'm being serious. Minshi is a really nice girl but she prefers no strings attached relationships. And... and… after she saw your photo.. she really wants to meet you."

"Hmm.. you showed her my photo?" he asked.

"Well.. she insisted," Su Ning answered.

"Hnng.." Gu YuChen hummed softly but didn't discuss the matter further.

Su Ning narrowed her eyes. She didn't like it when Gu YuChen didn't give her a clear answer. Recently, he had come to acquire this 'bad habit' as Su Ning would like to call it. 

"When we have lunch tomorrow and she asks you out after, tell her we have plans," Su Ning continued.

"Do we have plans?" Gu YuChen inquired, his eyes were focused on the road but there was a slight smile on his face. It was obvious he enjoyed teasing the girl beside him. 

"No… but we can just make some… wait.. that's not the point!" Su Ning blurted, a tinge of annoyance evident in her voice.

"What's the point?" Gu YuChen asked, pretending not to understand.

"Or tell her we can all go together.." she continued before catching on to what Gu YuChen had just said. "Hey! Tobokeru na! That won't work with me, mister!" Su Ning said in an accusatory tone. 

Author's Note: Tobokeru means to play dumb/ to feign ignorance. Our mc is using very casual speech. ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈♡)

"Mmm, NingNing's Japanese is getting better," Gu YuChen commented with a small nod.

"Hanashi wo sorasu na!" Su Ning blurted, smacking her friend on the arm. 

Author's Note: Hanashi wo sorasu na means Don't change the subject. (ง'̀-'́)ง

After spending several months in Japan, Su Ning was still far from being fluent in the language but she did get into the habit of using slang she picked up from her friends and from watching j-dramas. 

Gu YuChen laughed at Su Ning's outburst. His deep and manly voice reverberated in the confines of the vehicle; it was a pleasant sound.

Su Ning felt herself shiver unconsciously. She shook her head and reminded Gu YuChen, "Anyways, Remember, don't get close to Minshi." There was no response from the man so she asked again, "Alright?"

"I'll think about it," he answered ambiguously.

"Yah! Gu YuChen!" Su Ning cried out but the man merely gave her a smile that wasn't a smile.

'This kid is becoming so disobedient!' she thought unhappily. She would have to badger him again before their lunch tomorrow.

The pair arrived at Osaka-jo at around 3pm and leisurely toured the castle until closing time. Afterwards, they headed straight to Dotonbori to walk around and take photos. Su Ning especially liked the photo of Gu YuChen posing as the Glico man. They also stopped by Donki to buy more snacks for Su Ning before grabbing ramen at Ichiran.

It was nearly 9pm before they made it back to the apartment. As per her habit, Su Ning immediately went to her room to do her homework. Meanwhile, Gu YuChen went about doing work for his new company, XING. Gu YuChen is anticipating to have XING go public in the next two years to eventually go head to head with Gu Corp Ltd. The end goal would be to acquire the conglomerate. It's definitely a prodigious task but Gu YuChen was confident that he would be able to achieve his objective. 

Author's Note: XING means STAR. (*´∀｀*) Looks like our little YuChen named his company after his favorite girl. (●♡∀♡)

The next day, Gu YuChen made breakfast and drove Su Ning to school as he did the day before. Before she alighted from the vehicle, Su Ning once again reminded him to keep his distance from Minshi. The girl insisted that this was for Gu YuChen's benefit. "Your unrequited love wouldn't like it if she found out that you were having flings!" she proclaimed. But just like the day before, Gu YuChen simply gave the girl a slight smile and Su Ning inwardly cursed the obstinate young man. 'Tsk, this kid is becoming more and more cocky,' she thought with a click of her tongue. 

After bidding the girl goodbye, Gu YuChen decided to pass the time at the library coding enhancements for Star's World as he waited to have lunch with Su Ning and her friend. Subsequently, before Gu YuChen knew it, it was already noon. And as he was in the midst of gathering his belongings to meet Su Ning outside of the lecture  hall when he felt a gentle tap on his shoulder. It was his favorite girl. Gu YuChen's face immediately broke into a gentle smile.

"YuChen-ge!" Su Ning greeted her friend enthusiastically. "This is my good friend Minshi. Minshi, this is YuChen-ge, my best friend from C Country."

"Hi YuChen-ge! I'm so glad to finally meet you. You look even better in person," Minshi gushed.

Finally, Minshi and Gu YuChen meets! Do you think she will have a chance with out little YuChen?
