Loved By The Villain And The Male Lead

"Found you."

The strikingly handsome young man gazed at Su Ning with a tender smile on his face. Gu YuChen had been furiously searching for Su Ning for the past 15 minutes. It was unlike the girl to not respond to his texts. So after he hadn't heard from Su Ning for a quarter of an hour, his paranoia and worrying imagination got the best of him. Almost immediately he recalled the image of Su Ning lying prostrate and unresponsive on the hospital bed. Gu YuChen never wanted to see Su Ning in that state again. Luckily, he managed to find her in his second try. Relief and gentle affection were visible on his face.

"Yu— YuChen-ge? How.. how did you?" Su Ning stuttered, a confused expression crossing her face.

"Yuan fen," Gu YuChen responded with a shrug and a soft chuckle.

"Wu liao," Su Ning scoffed with a shake of her head.

"Let's go?" Gu YuChen asked with a charismatic grin. He offered his arm to the girl which she naturally accepted.

"En," Su Ning answered with a nod.

The pair leisurely walked towards the main entrance of the campus where Gu YuChen's car was parked across the street. Gu YuChen was aware that Su Ning's recent actions were quite odd so he raised the issue innocuously.

"NingNing what did you and Minshi chat about?" he asked.

"Huh? Oh..it's nothing much," Su Ning answered quickly.

'She doesn't want to say. Could it be related to what Lin Miao had texted her?' wondered Gu YuChen. He wanted to know but at the same time he didn't want to know as well. The way things were, Gu YuChen could still harbor a sliver of hope but once Su Ning vocalizes her feelings for another man, he feels his world will fall apart. 

So instead, Gu YuChen responded "Really? But it was enough to make you lost in thought…"

"Ahh… well…" Su Ning began before trailing off. 

"It's alright if NingNing doesn't want to say," Gu YuChen interrupted the girl, attempting to sound casual.

"Oh it's nothing really. We just talked about this and that," Su Ning answered evasively. Yet Gu YuChen's understanding nod only made her feel guiltier. 'Aiyah! Why does he have to be so nice? It'll make me feel better if he badgered me about what he wanted to know.'

That day the pair didn't go visit any tourist spots, instead they opted to go straight home where Gu YuChen cooked dinner. After Su Ning finished her homework at around 10pm, they ended up watching a movie together. It was an old Thai film called "Shutter" that Gu YuChen insisted on watching. Actually, ever since Su Ning went to see The Unholy with Lin Miao and Li YouQing, she had strayed clear of horror movies. She was aghast that Gu YuChen would actually be interested in one but she was never one to back down from a challenge. Plus, her 29 year old auntie's heart wouldn't let her show weakness to a 21 year old who is still wet behind the ears. In addition, she's been living on her own for the past few months; she can handle one measly scary movie! Su Ning was certain of it!

'Kan jiu kan be! Shui pa shui?!' Su Ning thought to herself.

Author's Note: Kan jiu kan be! Shui pa shui?! Means If we're going to watch then let's watch! Who's scared of whom? ಠ◡ಠ

Of course, Su Ning was sadly mistaken; she was no match for "Shutter." She could barely hold her own watching an American horror movie. What made her think she stood any chance against an Asian one!? Within the first 10 minutes of the movie, Su Ning knew she was screwed. 'Why do they film these movies so dark!!! Ugh! Why does the soundtrack have to be so loud!?' she raged internally. 'I bet Gu YuChen is feeling it too. Maybe I can convince him to switch to a comedy.' Su Ning took a peek at the man seated beside her and felt her mouth go slack. Gu YuChen's eyes were fixed on the screen with a bored expression on his normally impassive face. All of a sudden a loud sound came from the TV and Su Ning jerked instinctively. Once more she turned to the man beside her and silently gasped. 'Did he.. Did he just stifle a yawn!? Is this kid a robot? What does he have running in his veins!' she sputtered in her mind.

Gu YuChen was bored. His friend Julia recommended watching a scary movie to foster some bonding time with Su Ning. Julia had been so confident that his relationship with Su Ning would deepen after going through this experience together but the girl wouldn't explain why and Gu YuChen failed to see how such a thing were to occur. As far as he could tell, the entire movie was predictable; it looked low budget and the acting was barely passable. Gu YuChen glanced at Su Ning beside him and his eyes widened slightly. The girl was clutching the couch throw pillow tightly and her eyes were squinting at the screen. 'Does Su Ning want to watch or does she not want to watch?' Gu YuChen thought confusedly. 'Should I switch the movie?' 

And so, a long hour and a half passed just like that. SuNing nearly let out a sigh of relief when the scene finally switched to the psychiatric institution. 'It's almost over. Gad!!! I'll need to keep the lights on tonight,' Su Ning mused. However, before she could celebrate, her eyes caught sight of that horrid scene of the ghost seated on the male protagonist's shoulders. Then the screen faded to black. 'Uwaaaaaaah! My eyes!!' Su Ning wailed internally. She shut her eyes tightly 

"NingNing? NingNing?" Gu YuChen whispered only to get no response.

"Uhm.. NingNing, the movie is over," the man said quietly. 

"'Mhmmm," the girl merely whispered in response.

"What's the matter?" Gu YuChen asked.

'Is she sad to see it end? Ta she bu de?' the clueless young man wondered.

Su Ning coughed to hide her distress and in a hoarse voice, she said "N— noth—- nothing's the matter." 'I cannot show this weakness! I'm an adult! I should be the one taking care of these two boys!'

"I didn't know you liked scary movies that much. We can watch another one at the cinema next time you come visit me," Gu YuChen responded with a light chuckle.

"Nooooo!" Su Ning shrieked, taking Gu YuChen off guard.

"Ahem… I don't like them to THAT extent," Su Ning blustered. "Plus, I like all types of movies. Let's watch a comedy one next time."

None the wiser, Gu YuChen simply nodded in agreement. "Alright whatever NingNing wants."

......…..

After nearly half an hour of chit chat, Su Ning was shocked to find that it was nearly past midnight! Knowing she had an early day tomorrow, she quickly bade Gu YuChen goodnight and went to her room to take a bath. Afterwards, she prepared to do bedtime routine for a calm and restful sleep, this used to work wonders in keeping her recurrent nightmares at bay. However, Su Ning's experience watching that horror flick was making it difficult for her to even fall asleep. Scenes from the movie kept flashing through her mind and before she knew it, it was nearly 2am in the morning! 'Ugh! I manage to avoid having nightmares of getting chased down by Qing Mei only to dream about a bloody Thai girl! Wu wu wu,' she lamented in her heart. 

'I can't believe Gu YuChen can sit through that film so calmly like that. He's got nerves of steel that kid,' she thought as she propped herself up the bed. Just then, Su Ning thought of an ingenious idea. 'Wait a minute.. Does that mean if Gu YuChen was here… I could easily sleep through the night? But… would he think it was weird that his 18 year old best friend is asking to share a bed together? Wait a minute! What does age have to do with anything!? Friendship transcends time and distance!' 

........

Gu YuChen prided himself on being a light sleeper. This skill had saved him several times from Song Rui's nefarious attacks on his life since he had been 12 years old. So even before Su Ning had opened her bedroom door and poked her pretty head to check up on him, Gu YuChen had already been awake.

"YuChen-geeeee," the young girl whispered. "Are you asleep?" she asked.

"Mmmmm," Gu YuChen hummed softly, opening his inky black eyes to stare at the girl in cute baby blue pajamas.

"Uhmmm… That…. YuChen-ge, do you want to sleep together tonight?"

** The author has something to say: woah is our little ningning suddenly making the first move? Gu yuchen is sure to appreciate this sudden turn of events! I could already here lin jinyan gnashing his teeth from another continent! (σ≧∀≦)σ
