Loved By The Villain And The Male Lead

"YuChen-ge, do you want to sleep together tonight?" the young girl's melodic voice sounded from the bedroom door.

"Huh? Wha— what?!" Gu YuChen asked, startled.

'Is this a dream?! Am I actually still sleeping?!' the man wondered to himself.

Su Ning walked closer to the couch where Gu YuChen lay. The lights were still off so only the soft glow from the small night-lights illuminated the room. At this moment, Su Ning was unaware of it but she looked like an angel who had just descended from heaven. Gu YuChen's breath caught and he found it hard to speak.

"I said… would you like to sleep together tonight?" she asked once more while poking the young man's elbow.

Gu YuChen could only stare in response.

"Hmmm? What do you say?" Su Ning inquired with a sweet smile.

Gu YuChen gulped before responding hoarsely, "NingNing, I don't think that's a good idea."

"What?!" Su Ning exclaimed, looking stunned that Gu YuChen had declined her request. "But why?" she prodded.

With a sigh, Gu YuChen explained the obvious, "NingNing, I'm a man and you're a woman. We also aren't related by blood, so we shouldn't be sleeping on the same bed."

"Oh! But! That's alright! I trust YuChen-ge. So…." Su Ning blabbered attempting to convince Gu YuChen of her sudden idea. Su Ning began to talk about how it's quite normal for best friends to fall asleep on the same bed after a long night of chit chat. She blabbered about how in this day and age, one shouldn't be bogged down by distinctions such as male and female genders. However, the more she spoke the more silent the man became.

"…" 'Something is off with NingNing. Why is she suddenly insisting to sleep on the same bed? She's never done so in our entire span of time knowing each other,' thought Gu YuChen.

"So… can't we?" Su Ning whispered after completing her long tirade.

"…" Gu YuChen's eyes narrowed but he did not respond. The girl was acting quite suspiciously; she looked quite shifty eyed. It was rather amusing really. Su Ning was a bad liar. Suffice it to say she had no future in espionage.

"Hmmmm? Come on," she said once more. 

Gu YuChen replied, "NingNing… I really don't think this is a good idea." His calm expression belied the curiosity that threatened to erupt from his lips.

"Aiyoh! Mei guan xi la! Come on! The couch must be uncomfortable to sleep on for a whole week," Su Ning insisted, pulling at the man's wrist.

Author's Note: Mei guan xi means it's no problem.

"The sofa is fine," Gu YuChen answered in a deadpan tone.

'Yah! Can't you take a hint?!' Su Ning nearly cried aloud. However, on the outside, she spoke softly, trying once more to convince the man, "But…"

"NingNing, is there a reason why you want me to stay with you tonight?" Gu YuChen asked, his gaze fixed on Su Ning's face. A pair of phoenix eyes met a pair of shaking peach blossom eyes.

"N— no?" the girl squeaked, her fingers holding Gu YuChen's wrist trembled slightly.

"Really?" Gu YuChen quietly asked with a tilt of his head and the girl guiltily averted her gaze. He was close. Su Ning was about to crack.

"NingNing," he said her name in a deceptively calm voice.

"Aiyoh fine la! Hao le la jiu gao su ni la! I'm scared because of the movie!" Su Ning basically yelled.

Author's Note: Hao le la jiu gao su ni la! Means Fine then, I'll tell you! (ง'̀-'́)ง

"…" 'That silly movie affected you this much?'

"Is that true?" Gu YuChen asked with disbelief.

"O," she muttered, her lower lip quivering.

'So that's why Su Ning left the lights on in her room and she was so insistent on sleeping with me,' he thought with a wry smile. Gu YuChen knew that Su Ning didn't harbor any impure intentions towards him. Yet he had to admit, there was a small part of him that wished otherwise. 

Gu YuChen pushed away those ludicrous thoughts from his mind and instead inquired, "Why didn't you tell me? We could have watched another movie."

"Well! I mean… you insisted on watching it!" Su Ning initially argued before finally admitting the truth. "And .. and… I didn't wanna show a weak side of myself," she continued in almost a whisper.

'Hu hu hu. I might as well come clean. I've been made. This kid is too smart for his own good,' she griped in her heart. Su Ning was certain that her friend would make fun of her so she decided to strike first.

"NingNing.." he called out to the girl softly.

"I saw you!!! Your expression did not change at all during the scary parts! You even looked bored!" Su Ning complained.

"But you said I had facial paralysis… So why would you expect my expressions to change?" Gu YuChen replied calmly.

"Oh come on na! Your face should still change with extreme stimuli ba!" Su Ning pointed out.

"…" Gu YuChen covered his lips that have raised upwards to a distinct arc. 'This girl really dislikes losing arguments.'

"Anyways, come on na! It's already past 2 in the morning. Let's move to my room, ba," Su Ning chirped.

But of course, Gu YuChen isn't one to give in easily, "NingNing how about you just leave your door open."

"It won't work like that ah," Su Ning proclaimed before whining. "YuChen-geeee." Su Ning gave Gu YuChen the most adorable pleading and doe-eyed look.

"Alright," Gu YuChen finally relented.

"Yey!" Su Ning cheered.

"But go to sleep immediately," he said sternly.

"Yeah yeah let's go," Su Ning said, grabbing the man's pillows before bounding into her room.

Gu YuChen let out a soft helpless chuckle before following her into the room where he came to find Su Ning already on the bed, patting the space beside her. In a matter of minutes, the pair lay side by side on the double sized mattress. One was happily grinning as if she had achieved a momentous feat while the other lay tense whilst staring at the ceiling. This went on for a short while.

"YuChen-ge~" Su Ning called out softly.

"NingNing, go to sleep," Gu YuChen responded succinctly. 

"I have a 9am class tomorrow," Su Ning giggled before commenting.

"I know," Gu YuChen said in a flat voice.

"I want Japanese style breakfast tomorrow," she requested.

"Alright now sleep," he responded with his eyes closed.

"With Grilled salmon and tamagoyaki," Su Ning added.

"Mmm.." he hummed in acknowledgement.

"I want some side dishes too.. like spinach and peanut salad," she said out loud.

"NingNing.." he warned.

"He he he. Goodnight YuChen-ge." 'I'm feeling so sleepy and comfortable already. I knew this was a great idea.'

"En, goodnight NingNing." 'I knew this was a bad idea.'

Gu YuChen was up at 6am the next morning. Just as he thought, he had been unable to sleep with Su Ning lying peacefully just mere centimeters from him. 'A double bed is way too small. I should've had Xiao Yi purchase a King bed.' All throughout the night, Gu YuChen could feel the movements and soft breath of the girl through heightened senses. The girl he loves was an arm's length away. He couldn't tell how long he stared at her beautiful face, memorizing her lovely features: her straight nose, her pale supple skin, and long thick lashes fanning her soft pink cheeks. Unable to help himself, Gu YuChen reached out his hand to touch her face. His fingertips trailed across her smooth skin, eventually resting on her cheeks. As if in a trance, Gu YuChen was unable to take his hand away, he savored the feel of Su Ning. Would there be a time when he'd be able to do this whilst they were awake? Unexpectedly, his movements woke up the sleeping girl and her eyelashes slowly fluttered open. 

Knowing he was caught red handed, Gu YuChen racked his brains for an excuse only to be relieved to find that the girl was half asleep and unaware of his actions. Groggily she muttered his name before turning over to place her arm over his chest as if she was hugging a pillow. Gu YuChen's eyes grew wide as his body froze. How could he forget? Su Ning liked to sleep on her side. As such, he lay tense and unmoving on the bed until he saw daylight.
