Chapter 126: If These Could Last...

Gu YuChen did not sleep well. In fact, it can even be said that he did not sleep at all. So as soon as sunlight streamed into the windows, he gingerly moved Su Ning's hand on his chest. He slowly got up from the bed so as not to wake the girl and he quietly made his way out of the room. Yawning and bleary eyed, he went into the kitchen where he brewed himself a cup of strong black coffee before proceeding to prepare breakfast for Su Ning.

Per Su Ning's request, Gu YuChen prepared a 'teishoku' breakfast with broiled salted salmon, tamagoyaki, miso soup and different side dishes. Gu YuChen also packed a separate lunch bento for the girl. 

Author's Note: Teishoku is a set meal.

Tamagoyaki is a Japanese sweet rolled omelette.

He glanced down at his iiwatch and noted it was about time to wake up the girl. Gu YuChen called out Su Ning's name as he softly rapt on the girl's bedroom door. Hearing no answer, Gu YuChen let herself into Su Ning's bedroom for a morning call. 

The girl lay on the bed still fast asleep. She had kicked off her pillow and blanket to the floor.  Su Ning lay in a starfish position with her mouth slightly open. The girl looked so adorable Gu YuChen instinctively took a photo of the sight. Of course, even without a photograph Gu YuChen would never be able to forget anything about the girl. In fact, it was only after meeting Su Ning that he began to consider his eidetic memory a gift. He was always treated with wariness and suspicion by the people around him. After all, who would want to be friends with someone who had the resources to find out your secrets and will never forget a single interaction? Most people wouldn't let such a person close; it required a great amount of trust or perhaps obliviousness to do so. In this lifetime, Su Ning may be the only one who was both to him.

Gu YuChen walked closer to hear the girl's soft breathing and he felt his heart tremble. He gently brushed the strands of hair that fell across her forehead before he softly called out her name. 

"NingNing…. NingNing…." (Gu YuChen)

"It's time to get up." (Gu YuChen)

"Mmmgggghhh. Five more minutes," Su Ning mumbled.

"It's almost 9am" Gu YuChen said nonchalantly.

"WHAT!?" Su Ning's eyes popped open and she quickly jerked up to a sitting position. 

"Aiyah! Why didn't you tell me! I have a 9am class!" she exclaimed as she scrambled off the bed and ran towards her closet.

After listening to the girl rummaging through her dresser for a few minutes, Gu YuChen calmly but audibly commented,  "Since you're up, get dressed and have breakfast."

Meanwhile, Su Ning was evidently startled by Gu YuChen's response so she took a glance at the time on her phone. It was 7:45am. 

"Ni pian wo!" Su Ning cried in an accusatory manner. She ran out of the closet to face the man, leveling Gu YuChen with an angry glare. 

Author's Note: Ni pian wo means You tricked me! ≧ω≦

The Su Ning in front of him looked like an angry little rabbit. It was impossible to feel threatened by the girl so he simply hid his smile. 

"If you don't hurry, the food will get cold," Gu YuChen responded without batting an eye before leaving the room. 

Su Ning pouted. 'Gu YuChen! This kid! He was laughing at me! No respect! Even tricking his elders now,' she grumbled before proceeding to get dressed. It was getting warmer in Osaka so she decided on a tan Linen A line string dress which she would pair with off whilte ballerina flats. Sleeping with Gu YuChen really made her feel well rested. Su Ning gave herself a virtual pat on the back for coming up with such an ingenious plan. Gu YuChen is like her very own  protection talisman! It was quite possibly the best sleep she's had in the past few months. There were no nightmares about a vengeful ghost or a vindictive ex-friend which made Su Ning wonder if she should actually have Gu YuChen write her one of those yellow protection talismans she could put under her pillow. This way, maybe she could actually skip having to do those time consuming bedtime routines everyday. Su Ning admits, she truly is a salted fish at heart.

Author's Note: A salted fish is a lazy person who has no intention of doing anything. Chi he deng si which means Eat, drink and wait to die is also a description that this author-nim would use interchangeably although the latter may be a bit more extreme. ヽ(ﾟ▽ﾟ*)/(*ﾟ▽ﾟ)ﾉ

Su Ning came out of her room looking especially happy to find the breakfast she had requested the night previously already prepared on the dining table. Gu YuChen, who had been patiently waiting for her to get ready, was reading the news on his iipad. He looked up to see a delighted Su Ning walking up to him with a skip in her step.

"NingNing na me kai xin?" he asked with a small smile on his face. It was so easy to make this gluttonous girl happy.

"Dang ran ah! You hao chi de dong xi wo jiu kai xin loh!" Su Ning answered, taking a bite of the tamagoyaki. 

Author's Note: NingNing na me kai xin means NingNing is that happy?

Dang ran ah! You hao chi de dong xi wo jiu kai xin loh! Means Of course ah! If there is delicious food to eat, I am already happy.  ♪ ♬ (´︶`♡)ﾉ ♬ ♪

'Delicious! The person marrying Gu YuChen would be so lucky. Does this mean I won't be able to eat his cooking after he's married!? Can't we all just live at Grandma Gu's mansion together,' she wondered, lost in thought. 'Aiyah what am I thinking about! Obviously we can't live together! I can't believe I was getting tempted by food. Plus, Gu YuChen will be the CEO of Gu Corp Ltd. He won't even have time to cook then. Heh. At least his wife won't be able to eat his cooking either.' The petty thought suddenly manifested in Su Ning's mind.

Seeing Su Ning lost in thought, Gu YuChen decided to play a trick on the girl. He took out his phone and placed it in front of the girl absentmindedly munching on her meal. Her cheeks bulged like a squirrel.

"NingNing, come look," Gu YuChen called out, tapping the screen across from the girl. "Do you recognize her?" he asked. 

"Huh? Who is it? Wang hong ah?" Su Ning snapped out of her daydream, as she asked Gu YuChen confusedly.

Author's Note: A wang hong is an internet celebrity.

"Take a look," the man said with a knowing tone.

"Who is it lah?" the young girl asked once more before bending her head to take a look. She quickly recognized herself. It was an image of her drooling as she slept, her arms and legs spread eagle. It was obviously a blackmail photo!

"Yah!!!! When did you take this!?" Su Ning blurted out as she tried to grab the phone from the table. Unfortunately, the man's reflexes were much faster than hers so before her fingers even touched the surface of the table the phone was back in his pocket.

"While you were asleep of course," Gu YuChen replied with a cheeky grin.

"Gu YuChen! That was a rhetorical question!" Su Ning practically yelled.

"Mhmm. I know," the young man answered.

"Are you gonna delete that picture?!" Su Ning demanded. 

"Not gonna," Gu YuChen responded, imitating Su Ning's words.

"Delete the picture!" she exclaimed, her arms akimbo.

"Rang wo xiang yi xia. Xian chi fan beh," he answered with a flippant smile.

Author's Note: Rang wo xiang yi xia. Xian chi fan beh. Means Let me think about it. Go eat first. Ｏ(≧▽≦)Ｏ

"Ho! Gu YuChen! I'll remember this! I'll get back at you later! You better not show anyone that image," Su Ning huffed before turning her attention back to her breakfast.

"I won't. Now go eat," Gu YuChen said with a light chuckle.

"You really better not!" Su Ning exclaimed, her brows furrowed. She made a gesture of swinging her fist as if to say she would beat up Gu YuChen if he did otherwise. Yet the incorrigible man simply shrugged and pointed at the food. So Su Ning had no choice but to eat her meal without making a fuss.

'These ordinary days, if these could last forever..' Gu YuChen thought to himself as he watched Su Ning eat.
