Chapter 292: A Lost Traveler (1)

Ominous dark clouds covered the entirety of the twilight sky and cast everything into pitch blackness.

Naught a person was in sight.

Naught a single sound was uttered at this moment either.

Only a singular individual stepped through the thresholds of an elaborate labyrinth maze of thick thorn and thistles and found herself wandering and searching—not exactly for something, but someone instead.

There was a certain commotion that allowed her heightened awareness to understand that an intruder found itself in the confines of her domain without even presenting themselves to her.

"Tch."

She yanked the edge of her long flowing gown from the root that stuck to her carefully prim and proper clothes as she finally located the trespasser in hand. She raised a glove hand to her face, the pinpricks of her teeth slightly pressing against the soft fabric.

The man was… otherworldly.

He had the same dark lustrous hair as hers, but her skin color was far from the pale white color of hers that contained  the biting coldness of the night—and while it was fair, you could see the smooth lines and veins that flowed underneath his creamy skin.

"Such a healthy color."

She bit on her thumb and refrained herself from such craven and plebeian thoughts.

"How uncouth of me. But how did he end up here in the first place?" The lady stepped forward, her heels crunching on the grass as she ventured bravely towards the man lying down on the grass as she took a peek of his face.

He was most certainly alive, that much she was certain of.

There was something that tickled her mind—it made her question and it was such a delightful mystery to undertake. The answers might have come from him, but unfortunately, the man was currently still deep in slumber.

"However, if he has come here by himself and naturally has taken this path despite its dangers… why is he so worn out from arriving and has instead stayed at a peaceful place?"

The only dwelling in sight that she was aware of was her very own abode… but there was bound to be inns and taverns where a singular man could reside during the night to rest his body.

Was this man some kind of fool to choose to sleep in someone else's place?

Or was he instead too poor to even stay at another person's roof.

The lady took note of the torn sleeve of the outfit he was wearing and decided that while the appearance was dreadful… the fabric itself was not so bad.

However, that was too much pondering on her part about the minute details of the man.

There were far too many important things to consider.

She clicked her tongue and then shook her head, deciding that it was only natural to take note of the details about this mysterious individual.

"Someone like him should be careful at these hours," she said. "There are monsters and it is unsafe for a person to wander alone, thoroughly unarmed and defenseless."

An owl hooted in the night.

The lady turned her head and threw a sharp look at the lone bird sitting in one of the dried up branches of a tree—and satisfyingly watched it take flight in fear, its voice was gone as it fled. It disappeared into the night and was long gone.

She then pressed a hand on her chest and sighed resigned. "My, my—if it weren't for me, that bird would have feasted on your body and turned you into a rotting carcass. I am so gracious to have stumbled upon you. Must I also wake you? Have you not slept for too long enough?"

There was an interjection in her tone, a sudden shift that called out to something primal within him—and aroused the presence of his mind. Li Yang finally came to with his head throbbing with enough pain that he sat up and clutched his head.

Compared to when he used the World Warper—the way that he was pulled into the vortex and forcefully got dragged into someplace else was something that made his entire body undergo a stream of unending pain and disassociativeness.

Now, he could feel his blood bursting in his veins as if reviving him to take an action. Any action that involved actually moving and no longer staying stagnant in one place.

He raised his head and met the eyes of who had woken him up.

Bright red eyes like rubies stared down at him as a rather graceful lady dressed like someone from a Victorian era greeted him with a coy smile. Her dark hair was pulled up in a carefully framed way that gave her features a delicate appearance.

… but everything else about her only made his body freeze in some kind of stasis. If there were any sort of danger senses that were triggered by her presence alone, then this was it. Right behind her was a shadow that was far greater than what she possibly might have been and stretched out like long tendrils that covered the entire world behind her.

A person should have kept his mouth shut—would have kept his mouth shut in this instance and knew that it was the good choice for him.

And yet, a certain sense of logic still probed at Li Yang's mind and tried to say that if this woman wanted to have killed him… then he would have already long been dead in the first place.

The man wouldn't have woken up at all.

Li Yang cleared his throat and then asked. "May I know who you are?"

Introductions seemed normal and okay enough, right? He hoped that he didn't have to learn a new language, he feared that things would turn nasty if he was someone who spoke unfamiliarly to her.

A small laugh escaped from the woman's throat to which she quickly stifled down—not because it showed off her fangs, but because it was unbecoming of a lady to simply be that noisy—instead she gave him a curious look.

"A man does not normally ask for a lady's name without introducing himself beforehand."
