My Destined Werewolf Mate

Chapter 19 - Our Worlds Are Far Apart...

Zeus's POV:

I was stunned to see her all of a sudden, standing behind me. She had a fretful face while asking me for a bit of time.

I tried to pretend more frigid in front of her and shifted my gaze towards the outside. "What do you want to talk about?" I inquired.

She glanced at me for a second and lowered her eyes. "Abo-About today, whatever happened in the elevator--"

"Nothing happened in the elevator." I interrupted her words bluntly because I deliberately wanted to escape her inquiries. Besides, it's everything for her betterment.

"Nothing happened?" She rolled her eyes and repeated my words in surprise. "Ho-How can you say it so casually after all the things I have been going through since the morning?" She sounded agitated.

I stared at him intensively for a while and turned my face away. "That's why I am telling you this, forget everything and do your best not to face anything awful anymore," I murmured in a heavy voice.

She ogled at me for a while and smirked with a sad face. "Then, why did you save me from the creep, sir? Why did you corner me against the wall while coming closer to me? Why did you bother to worry about a mere small intern at your office?" Her voice sounded quite agitated.

"Sorry for my... indecent gesture. But, I didn't intend to do any immoral thing towards you. Still, I would be careful enough not to make you feel like that ever again." With a cold response, I turned back to head towards my room.

"Please wait--"

Suddenly, she grabbed my right arm from behind in order to stop me. I was startled by her gesture and turned my gaze towards her. Her eyes looked baffled enough while staring at me.

"Please don't escape from me again..." She murmured.

I was startled enough to witness her unexpected gesture but somehow, I couldn't bring myself to shove her hand away from me. Standing all still, we were firmly looking in each other's eyes. It felt as if the time around us have already frozen...

"Were you the one who saved my life that day? If it's not the reason, then why do you look so familiar to me?" She interrogated me again.

With a helpless gaze towards her, I grinned a bit. I tried to pretend stern in front of her to portray a false image of mine inside her mind. "Why do you expect me to be your savior? To be honest, I am a jerk who hurt others with harsh words... So, if you don't want to be hurt, don't get close to me. Stay away." With a sturdy expression, I rashly conveyed my words to her.

She seemed shocked by my extremely rude response. Slowly, she loosened her grip and released my hand from her grip. Her eyes were a bit teary while looking at me with a poignant eloquence. "Sorry... I mistook you for someone else..." She murmured.

As she let go of her grip, somehow my heart ached deeply. I put on a fake proud smirk and turned my face away to stroll in the opposite direction from her. Even though I intentionally hurt her with my tyranny, but unknowingly it was saddening for me to depart away from her...

Although we can't help it. Our worlds and destinies are set in a direction wholly opposite to each other. A weak innocent human-like her shouldn't be indulged with a ferocious beast like me.

But what bothered me the most was her captivating scent. Even though I had allowed working in my office, I couldn't invite horrifying dangers to her. Her scent is enough eminent to summon ferocious other werewolves...

My heart was still worrying about her safety and I didn't know why! The more I want to drift away, the more I feel drawn towards her.

While entering my room, I turned my head and tried to peek at the way she was sanding. She wasn't there anymore, which means I was successful in maltreating her emotions...

I should have been happy in accomplishing my goal but it felt sad as she left away. I slowly walked to my chair and grabbed the seat. I knew it's better for her if she stays away from me, but I was assured enough that if I completely cut off my ties with her, she would be attacked by other werewolves pretty soon.

I didn't want any innocent self to undergo a painful death... just like my grandma...

All I can do for now is protecting her secretly without letting her know about myself. Honestly, I don't want to break the false image that created in her mind about me. With a deep sigh, I lit up a cigarette.

...

(Door knocking)

I flinched with the sudden noise and glared at the door. I wasn't in the mood of dealing with further nuisances but reluctantly answered, "come in."

To my surprise, a tall elegant and a quite familiar woman walked inside my cabinet with broad steps and a ubiquitous smile on her face.

I was too surprised to encounter her unexpectedly. "Ivory?" I mumbled.
