My Destined Werewolf Mate

"Wh...What?" 

Zeus's voice choked in dread with the extremely unanticipated revelation she conducted just a few seconds ago. Swirling his eyeballs wider, he unknowingly murmured out his query with his gaze intensively fixed on her. 

Eva was sitting right next to him, trembling in fear and clenching his arms tight. She seemed to be internally traumatized by her expressions and taking a deep breath in, she slowly raised her chin up to look at him.

"Wolves...Wolves have killed my beloved ones... Th-They destroyed my entire family,  my happiness...everything..." Tears rolling down her grimace, she uttered in a husky tone further clenching her grip over his arm. 

Engulfed in shock, he sat still and momentarily, even forgot to breathe hearing her painful words. His heart was throbbing hard but still, with an uncertain perplexed grimace, he chose to object her back, "how...how it can be possible, Eva? Ar...Are you sure...you aren't mistaking it or something--"

"How can I mistake my own parent's death, Zeus?" Before he could complete his sentence, immediately she intervened imposing her response quite badly. She seemed restless, grieved with a disgusted expression imprinted all over her face. "No...No one ever believed me whatever I tried to speak, not even my own brother... But...I swear... that night...the dreadful accident of our car was caused by those wolves... They... They intentionally targeted us on that night! I...I remember everything before I passed out..."

Zeus was getting swallowed up in dread with his mind gradually becoming all blank inside. The little world of dreams he wished of creating along with Eva by her side was starting to shake up vigorously with the revelation of a bitter truth that could indeed crumble their love upside down!

"On that fateful night, it was just the day after lunar eclipse when my world fell apart...When our car...flipped over several times... I... I got separated from my mom and dad...covered in blood and bruises... Before losing my senses, my...my blurry vision was looking for my parents who...who were scattered away from me on the road... a bit far and...critically injured. I...I wanted to cry out aloud to them but...but my head was ripped open, bleeding too severely...

Tears rolling down my hazy eyes I...I saw a herd of wild black wolves with... blazing red eyes walking towards my mom who...who was lying all lifeless on the road...But, she was alive! I still clearly remember it...she was breathing! I wanted to scream out for help but...but the road was all empty... Watching them approaching my mom...helplessly I lost my conscience... I thought, perhaps...it was the end for all of us...a pathetic end...But..."

"But?"

"But... when I woke up... I found myself in the hospital, wrapped up in bandages severely wounded, both physically and mentally... It was indeed a pathetic end of my happy life because...only I was left out alive that night, but...my parents couldn't... My mom and dad had...had brutal claw marks all over their body! Postmortem reports concluded that...their abdomen was stabbed brutally several times to make sure that they won't survive...They... They were murdered, Zeus! They were butchered!" Helplessly biting her lips to stop herself from breaking down, she shrieked aloud in a frustrated pitch while conveying the whole incident that turned her life upside down, that tragic night. 

Zeus couldn't utter a single word and lowered his head down away from her face. His heart was filled up with grief and regret hearing out her pain and not being able to console her... The part which was causing him a severe heartache was that despite being a werewolf by himself, he had to accept the tragic story of his beloved one who lost her happiness at the hands of his own species...probably, his own clan as well as his own existence... The realization was too sorrowful but he didn't have the courage left inside to beg for her mercy. 

"No one believed in the hospital when I said they attacked us intentionally... They wanted to kill all of us but...it was a miracle that I survived that dreadful night. However, since that night...I have always lived a regretful depressing life for being the lone survivor of that painful incident... And when my heart desired to live a good life after a grievous decade, then the same thing...the exact same thing happened to my brother...hic..." She couldn't hold back her pain inside anymore and burst out involuntarily into warm tears, wailing out aloud from inside, covering her face with her shivering hands.

"Eva...please try to get a hold on yourself--"

"Felix was a brave forest ranger officer but...he...he too was attacked by wild animals...hic... His body was so critically butchered that... they had to cremate him inside the Cansaglio forest... I...I was so unfortunate that I...couldn't even embrace my brother for the last time...hic... He was my only family that was left in this world... His colleagues had inferred that they had heard wolves growling near their camp on the night my brother was killed...hic... Those wolves even took away my last family ever left hic..." She cried out, covering her face and mourning all alone lowering her head down.

As soon as she finished her whining, Zeus immediately tugged her closer to his chest holding her in his arms to stop herself from crying out harder. His heart was breaking apart in despair to watch her breaking down helplessly and he could stop himself from soothing her wounded soul...He finally realized the grave reason behind their fateful first meet when she was prepared to take away her own life, being unable to bear the pain. Softly, he caressed her head with tears rolling down from his eyes whereas Eva was sobbing bitterly, clenching his shoulder and snuggling in his embrace.

"Th-That's why... I am afraid to lose you, Zeus... You are all I have... I... I am afraid that perhaps someday...those cunning wolves will take you away from me...hic... I don't know why they caused me so much pain...hic... But... I hate them! I despise them with all my life! I...I wish I could eradicate the existence of every wolf from this planet... I despise them... I want them to disappear...Die, you bastards! Die and disappear! Hic..." Resting in his arms, she cried out even harder while looking at the moon with her eyes filled with the pain of losing her beloved ones and immense unbearable anger towards wolves.

Zeus didn't have the courage to gaze at her wrathful eyes and holding a grief-filled, terrified heart, he clenched his grip around her waist as if he was afraid of letting her go. With sullen teary eyes, he wondered silently, "will you want me dead too when once you learn my bitter truth of existence? Will you despise me too someday? No... I...I can't lose you, Eva... Granny was right indeed; our fates won't be merciful towards us..."
