Chapter 42: Near at Hand

Annoyingly badgered by the vulture, Wu Jiuge finally looked less indifferent, saying with a frown, “If you want to meet Qiqi, just say it. Don’t beat about the bush and badger.”

The big vulture’s eyes instantly glistened, “You mean allowing me to meet Qiqi?!”

The answer was the venomous snake thrown at him. The vulture held the snake and kissed it around, “Wow, Qiqi, I miss you so much!”

Qiqi twitched its mouth and sighed that its master really couldn’t stand shameless beings. He just gave her away like this. What the heck…

“Tengxiao, if you keep behaving like this, your photo will be posted on Luoyang Morning Post tomorrow morning. By then, the demons that are after you will know where you are…” Qiqi gave a blow to Tengxiao mercilessly, so the latter had no other choice but to see Qiqi return to Wu Jiuge with a swish.

“Silly, what are you waiting for?” Wu Jiuge glanced coldly at Tengxiao and quickly stepped into the hotel. Tengxiao, pouting its lips with grievance, went to the reception to get the rooms for them. Qiqi became so mean. It must be because Wu Jiuge taught it to be so.

Since he knew that Xia Mingyu didn’t come to ask for the cure, Cao Pi guessed that he wouldn’t survive. While he felt pitiful for Xia Mingyu, he learnt that Mu Feng and his peers were looking for Xia Mingyu. Cao Cao was glad to offer his help while Cao Pi didn’t believe that. Anyone poisoned by Three Days Alive wouldn’t survive without a powerful man or spirit that could detoxify the poison. However, the Qiye Bead that was bounded with Xia Mingyu didn’t have any reaction.

Did that kid really get to survive? Cao Pi was lying on the recliner, looking at the stars in the sky. When he saw Xia Mingyu for the first time, he was really shocked. Xia Mingyu’s facial expression was very similar to that of Cao Zhi, which made him almost believe that Cao Zhi was still alive. But he was wrong. Xia Mingyu and Cao Zhi were two different men…

He deliberately struck, cold-shouldered and even ignored Cao Zhi in order to protect him from malicious people. Watching the lonely back of Cao Zhi, he felt sad but he knew that Cao Zhi was not suitable for competing and fighting. He only hoped that Cao Zhi could live a free and unrestrained life.

However, he didn’t expect that he would hound Cao Zhi to death…

“What are you thinking in your mind?” Cao Cao came over unknowingly and stood aside.  Cao Pi came to his sense and looked at his father, saying, “Father, if Zhao Zilong finds Xia Mingyu first, what’s your plan then?”

“Haha, of course to get the Heavenly Soul, and the Blood and Soul Jade. How can I let him get away this time?” Cao Cao’s uttered answer was exactly the same as Cao Pi’s thinking. As the latter thought of the amber glittering pupils of that young man, he could never get the young man off his head. It was like when he was counter-training with Cao Zhi, Cao Zhi always complaint about his rudeness.

“What? Are you sympathetic now?” Cao Cao suddenly spoke, but his faint smile seemed to be rather profound. Cao Yan shook his head. “No, Father.”

“That’s good. You must remember that sooner or later, the world will be ours.”

“Yes, Father.” The young man answered emotionlessly, with his dark red eyes full of radiance.

This feeling became stronger and stronger, as if the lost treasure was about to be regained. Zhao Yun kept tossing and turning. A zombie didn’t need to sleep, so he lay down for a while and then got up to look for the trace of Xia Mingyu with the help of the blood deed. However, he found that Xia Mingyu got closer and closer to him, and finally stayed near at hand.

Go! Go to find him! You could make it!

With this thought flashing through his mind, Zhao Yun disappeared in the darkness. In light of the weak connection between him and Xia Mingyu, he finally confirmed the location in the early morning after searching for most of the night. The feeling of recovering what was lost was even stronger.

Climbing across the wall and going through the window, he finally saw the sleeping young man in the dark room. Zhao Yun hurriedly walked to him but he was almost bound by the illuminated spell. Instantly, he turned around vigilantly and met with a pair of dark eyes. The man, holding a snake-shaped sword, struck at him ruthlessly.

Zhao Yun dodged the attack and then grabbed Wu Jiuge’s wrist holding the sword. Wu Jiuge released his hand. Then the snake-shaped sword just dropped and was fetched by him with the other hand. In a flash, he stabbed at Zhao Yun again with the sword glistening with green light, which was like having been dipped in venom. Zhao Yun dodged the blow with a flip.

Wu Jiuge didn’t give Zhao Yun a chance to rest. He started to enchant the spell by making a gesture with his hands. The spell, different from the Taoist skills of Mu Feng, was more like a witchcraft. As a result, Zhao Yun couldn’t move, like being controlled. He realized that he was in big trouble so he immediately urged his corpse Dan to resist the magic spell of Wu Jiuge.

Just when they were deadlocked, Xia Mingyu on the bed woke up in a daze and saw Zhao Yun and Wu Jiuge standing face to face. The young man, tilting his head inexplicably, stared blankly and then lay down again.

“Young Master!” “Mingyu!”

Taken aback at the same time, the two men gave up the fight and ran over only to see that the young man was in a trance with staring eyes, murmuring, “Why do I dream of you two? It doesn’t make sense. I’d better go back to sleep..”

The young man was still being silly in a daze. It occurred to Zhao Yun that Xia Mingyu always disbelieved that he was real. What a cute and silly boy! He smiled and hugged Xia Mingyu, “You are not dreaming. Mingyu, I’ve found you.”

Feeling the familiar cold temperature, Xia Mingyu became gradually clear-minded. The nausea resulting from the vulture-sickness instantly disappeared. He hugged Zhao Yun’s back and couldn’t help rubbing against him, just like what the eight-tailed cat spirit often did.

“Umm, Yun, I miss you so much.” He really missed Zhao Yun so much. These days he had encountered too many things. If it weren’t for Wu Jiuge, he would not be alive. Besides, Zhao Yun saved him twice, so he couldn’t die before paying back.

Wu Jiuge, who rarely saw Xia Mingyu behave like a spoiled child, felt stunned and left. Zhao Yun looked back at him and sat on the bed to hold Xia Mingyu in his arms, asking with concern, “Where have you been? I… We’re all worried about you.”

Xia Mingyu scratched the back of the head apologetically, but he didn’t feel a thing about the weird gesture. He told Zhao Yun about what had happened these days. Yet, he omitted the part of being poisoned. Instead, he only mentioned that he didn’t feel well.

Zhao Yun glanced outside the door and asked, “Well… Who is that person?”

“Oh, it’s Wu Jiuge, a friend of mine.” Xia Mingyu felt that it was awkward to refer to him as the soul keeper, so he only introduced him as his friend. Zhao Yun nodded and said, “He is very strong, but his spell seems to be lost witchcraft. I think you should not trust him too much.”

“Uh, that…” Xia Mingyu puckeredhis lips. As he didn’t say anything more, Zhao Yun thought that his words made him uncomfortable so he hurriedly explained, “I’m not questioning your friend. It’s just that we’re not familiar with witchcraft after all. It’s always good to be careful…”

“No, I don’t think Wu Jiuge will hurt me. He saved me before.” Xia Mingyu wanted Zhao Yun not to misunderstand Wu Jiuge, because actually, Wu Jiuge had saved him three times… Besides, Wu Jiuge was his soul keeper, who was supposed not to hurt him.

“It’s true that he has saved you, but I have a feeling that he is hostile towards me… His hostility seems to be very strong…” Zhao Yun recalled that when they met for the first ime, Wu Jiuge attacked him relentlessly. If he didn’t respond agilely, he would probably be stabbed. Although physical attack wouldn’t hurt zombies, Wu Jiuge’s sword… It didn’t seem like an ordinary sword.

Xia Mingyu titled his head. He didn’t see the fight between Zhao Yun and Wu Jiuge before, so he just thought that Wu Jiuge was too vigilant. “Maybe he thought you were here to catch me. By the way, how did you know I was here?”

Xia Mingyu asked curiously and Zhao Yun answered with “Oh”. Then the latter responded further without hesitation, “Thanks to the blood deed, I finally found you.”

The blood deed… Xia Mingyu recollected that Wu Jiuge said that the blood deed could make the host and the owner able to sense the other party’s location, but why couldn’t he feel it? Perhaps he was still too weak…

“I’m sorry to bother you.” Xia Mingyu lowered his head dispiritedly. Zhao Yun couldn’t help stroking his hair. When he felt the familiar soft hair in his palm, Zhao Yun felt so delighted. “It’s okay, but you’ve broken your promise. Didn’t you promise me that you would tell me everything? Why didn’t you tell me when you didn’t feel well? Why did you run away alone?”

“Uh… I…” Oh gosh. How to cover up his lie? Xia Mingyu tried his best to scrape about how to distract Zhao Yun’s attention, but he couldn’t think of anything out of anxiety. Stared by the dark-red eyes, he almost made a confession. Fortunately, Wu Jiuge came in at this moment.

“Young master, drink some water.” Wu Jiuge came with a glass of water and passed it to Xia Mingyu. Xia Mingyu fetched the water but he was stopped by Zhao Yun. Obviously, Zhao Yun did not believe in Wu Jiuge. “Young Master?”

Zhao Yun grabbed the water glass and looked into it for a while. When he found nothing in the glass, he finally gave it to Xia Mingyu with relief. Meanwhile, he also asked why Wu Jiuge called Xia Mingyu as Young Master. Weren’t they friends?

Gosh, things were getting worse. They were not friends at all. Xia Mingyu had to drink the water but his silence didn’t suggest that Wu Jiuge wouldn’t ask.

“Are you the owner of the blood deed?” Disgruntlement flashed across Wu Jiuge’s dark eyes. Zhao Yun’s action just now kind of annoyed him, but what made him most disgruntled was that Xia Mingyu seemed to trust Zhao Yun a little more. He had clearly told the young master that he was the only person whom Xia Mingyu could trust in the world.

Zhao Yun felt Wu Jiuge’s hostility. He raised his eyebrows slightly and replied indifferently, “Yes.”

“You don’t deserve it.” After fighting with Zhao Yun, Wu Jiuge had learned that Zhao Yun was King of Corpse, which made him even dislike Zhao Yun more. However, since Xia Mingyu didn’t agree to conceal the blood deed, he couldn’t do anything about it. He had better let his young master know of Zhao Yun’s true intention. Otherwise, there might be some unimaginable consequences.

“Wu Jiuge! How can you say that?” Xia Mingyu didn’t know why he reacted so violently. He only felt so pissed off to hear Wu Jiuge’s words. He himself should be the one who didn’t deserve Zhao Yun. He was so weak that he could only be a drag on Zhao Yun…

The young man blushed with tears in his amber eyes due to emotional haste. Wu Jiuge puckered his lips, with some mixed emotions hidden in his dark eyes. These three persons were all silent until Wu Jiuge slammed the door and left.
