Obey Me

Chapter 19

Aren’t You Afraid of Death?

“Elsus was the hometown of three heroes. That monument is to commemorate the Legendary Lord.”

Kyrie said, sitting in a cafe with a view of the snowy sea.

It was an answer to the question of Nathaniel, who pointed to the monument at the end of the dock.

As he looked at the vast horizon, Nathaniel turned his head and made eye contact with a dry smile.

[Anything else?]

“Little is known about the Legendary Lord. The history books only said that he died early because of the wounds he got during the end of his life. “

[I see.]

“If he hadn’t died, he would have been revered as a living legend with the Lord Protector.”

[There must have been people who didn’t like it.]

Nathaniel muttered. His words are sometimes overly fragile.

(T/N: His words were so soft that it was hard to hear.)

Kyrie tightened her cloak and looked back to the sea.

“Are you uncomfortable with this story?”

[Why do you think so?]

“That’s because in the history books, it is written that the Vallabriga, the Legendary Knight, and the Patriotic Knight joined forces to drive the end of the world.”

Kyrie replied carefully.

‘If he really is the end, wouldn’t he be uncomfortable to talk about the person who subjugated him?’

Contrary to concerns, Nathaniel smiled too dry for his emotions.

[Well.]

The two had a moment of agreed silence. Of course, it was Kyrie who opened her mouth first.

“Then, can I take it that you have no intention of destroying Sel Arellano?”

[Destroying?]

Nathaniel picked out the raw word that Kyrie threw. (T/N: raw=single)

Kyrie shrugged.

“I thought Lord Nataniel might want to fulfill his long-cherished wish if you really were ‘the end’.”

[You’ve been thinking such a cute idea with that little head.]

“Yes. The end, destruction, long-cherished desire. They’re cute words.”

[Good talker.]

Nathaniel rose from his seat.

He headed for the outer terrace, where fresh snow lay.

Kyrie also followed suit.

The man with the cane said calmly, looking at the horizon.

[Why did you bring me in with that thought?]

“The problem is that it’s scarier when you can’t see it than when you can.”

[That’s a catchy phrase.]

Kyrie glanced at the calm sea and asked as calmly as possible.

“Were you really trying to destroy this country?”

[Well.]

“Please give me a clear answer.”

[Buchanan.]

Kyrie flinched.

The name he called sounded like ice breaking for some reason.

Nathaniel was smiling, but the smile was as meaningless as the bonfire in the picture.

(T/N: A proverb it means as a bonfire in picture is useless coz it can’t provide warmth to the onlooker, same with the smile of Nathaniel. It gave no warmth to the onlooker)

[Watch the line.]

Ice-clear, transparent blue eyes. Kyrie couldn’t figure out what was in them.

At least not herself.

She neatly gathered her light purple hair flying in the sea breeze and passed them behind her ears.

“But I need to know. Otherwise, we can’t take you to the capital.”

[Why?]

“Because I’m a noble. I’m responsible for sending Lord Nathaniel to the capital as it is.”

[You don’t care who dies if you’re not responsible?]

“Yes, of course.”

Kyrie answered quickly, but there was no confidence.

Nathaniel laughed.

[Too much bluff.]

“What do you mean bluff? I…”

A gloved hand suddenly approached Kyrie.

She felt the cold leather touching her neck.

It’s normal to be surprised, but she wasn’t really afraid. Nathaniel was too dry to do that.

There was no excitement for him about having the right to life and death.

A smile that seemed more transparent than sapphire was still there, but given that it was a meaningless habit, he was completely expressionless.

“It’s daytime and outside. Is that your taste?”

[Excessive excuse. Do you think I can’t kill you?]

“No. You can easily kill me.”

Nathaniel laughed low.

[then.]

“I just believe what I see. “

[What you see.]

The tone of Nathaniel’s voice was lowered a notch.

If it was like the sound of water flowing at night, his voice now sounded like the sound of waves in the night sea.

Kyrie was silent.

It was enough time for the snow to leave a trail on her head and on Nathaniel’s shoulder.

A clear voice rang in the air, with a slight lack of confidence.

“You don’t seem to be like that.”

Kyrie saw herself in the blue eyes. The color of violet.

It was that night.

Kyrie suddenly fell asleep for no reason.

She slowly stepped off the bed, but winced as soon as her feet touched the floor.

‘Why is it so cold?’

She carefully put her arms in her winter fur coat and headed to the balcony.

Kyrie found Nathaniel leaving the inn there.

‘You’re leaving! Why didn’t you wake me up?’

Frowning immediately, she went out into the hallway and was astonished.

There, knights, including Valdir, and servants of the inn were asleep.

‘It’s magic. How often have you gotten out of it this way?’

To say a word about this unruly behavior was also the next thing to do after finding him.

Kyrie quickly left the inn.

Nathaniel was walking down the hill where the luxury inn was located.

She didn’t even think to blow her cold fingers.

She followed Nathaniel, who was hardly seen.

Then at one point, Nathaniel was no longer seen.

“Did I miss him?”

[I caught you.]

“Kya!”

Nathaniel, who had disappeared, appeared from behind.

Kyrie twisted her posture in amazement and fell down on her butt.

“How can you….? Is it magic?”

Nathaniel calmly reached out to her and helped Kyrie get up.

She belatedly recalled her original purpose.

“Lord Nathaniel. Um… what a coincidence.”

Nathaniel smiled faintly.

[Coincidence.]

“Yes, I was also on a walk. I think Nathaniel was also going for a night walk.”

[In that outfit.]

Blue eyes looked at Kyrie up and down.

Wherever he looked, it wasn’t an appropriate outfit for a winter walk, but Kyrie raised her chin as casually as possible.

“It’s rude to see a lady like that.”

[Isn’t it rude to follow someone else?]

“I’m the person who came out for a walk.”

[Then go back.]

It was a cold remark.

When he pointed his cane at the road, something like a blue flame sparkled.

‘If you come out like this, you can’t win with words.’

Kyrie lowered her eyes and sighed.

“……May I ask you to accompany me? Unfortunately, nobles have national defense obligations.”

[What if I don’t?]

“Then I will have to go for a walk again.”

As she spoke, her heart was pounding.

Looking down at Kyrie for a long time, Nathaniel fortunately did not drive her away. Just a person who turned around silently.

‘Implicit permission.’

Kyrie quietly followed him.

Nathaniel walked without a crowd.

(PR: He walked inconsistently.)

The stillness of the sleeping resort was well-suited to him as if he had been fitted in.

The clock hung high in the square pointed to 2 a.m.

Kyrie crossed the square, where time seemed to be frozen, with Nathaniel and headed to the port.

Nathaniel stopped in front of the monument he saw during the day and stayed there for a long time.

Kyrie waited for him, even though she was trembling, and she didn’t intend to disturb him like an uninvited guest.

It would have been the case if it had not been for the ominous thunder in the distant sea.

Kurreung…

She was surprised by the harsh sound that echoed low.

‘Typhoon? In this season?’

She turned her gaze to the horizon and shouted in fear of the mysterious anxiety that made her breathless.

“Lord Nathaniel?”

Nathaniel turned to her call.

A young man in a dark blue suit with a rocking black sea in the background. Clear, transparent like glass, blue eyes that seemed to freeze everything and a smile that was nothing more than a sculpture one day because of his long eyelashes, his blue irises had a chilling shadow.

Kyrie couldn’t put her facial expressions in order even though she knew she had a terrified face.

“That……”

[Did you know and call?]

“What?”

[You didn’t know. Yes, you’re quite tactful.]

He turned his head. With those words, Kyrie was convinced. That he just tried to ‘do something bad’.

It seemed as if he was bringing in something terrifying.

‘Do you hate the legend? Whatever it is, I have to stop it.’

Kyrie, who grasped such a faint realization, tried hard to smile brightly.

“Is this your first time at Elsus? In addition to the three heroes, there were a lot of outstanding talents in Elsus…”

[Do you know why?]

“What?”

Kyrie asked back in surprise.

[The reason why there were so many talents at Elsus.]

“No. Is there such a thing?”

[Elsus was the place where the purest mana was stored on this continent.]

“Past tense?”

[Yes. Now there’s no trace of that rising. It’s the work of Orwenbridge.]

“Why so far?”

(T/N: it means – Why did they have to go to that extent.)

[Well.]

Kyrie, who was trying to talk again, realized that her mouth was frozen to the point that it was difficult to move.

‘I should have dressed warmer.’

Nathaniel, who seemed to be in thought, stared at her.

[You’re not asking for help.]

She was too cold and exhausted to answer. So she just laughed.

Nathaniel called out a warm breeze around Kyrie without lifting a finger.

Kyrie raised her lips at the unexpected kindness.

“Thank you.”

[Looking at now, it seems that Buchanan’s stupidity is hereditary.]

“You mean the first Buchanan?”

[Yes. When I told him not to kill that idiot, he was so proud and couldn’t say a word that he was cold.]

“But if that idiot dies, it’s a big problem, and if I pick it up, it’s not a problem.”

[Dull and boring.]

“That’s human.”

While saying so, Kyrie looked at the sea.

“I know you’re not interested.”

[No.]

She smiled at the expected answer.

The night sea was different from the sea seen during the day. And it suited Nathaniel better.

Suddenly, Kyrie opened her mouth.

“Lord Nathaniel. Do you need a target for revenge?”

Fortunately, there was no criticism of what nonsense it was.

“If that’s the case, couldn’t I be hated on behalf of the people of the past?”

(T/N: Means she could be hated by the people who locked Nathaniel)

[It’s not worth it to you.]

“Is that so?”

Thanks to the disappearance of the cold, Kyrie was able to enjoy the night sea without any problems, but instead, the warm wind brought her drowsiness.

Nathaniel asked Kyrie, who was starting to doze off.

[Aren’t you afraid of death?]

Kyrie shook her head to get rid of sleep. She slept with dignity, and her priority now was to answer in her right mind.

“I’m not afraid of death. I’m afraid of being sick.”

[As long as it doesn’t hurt?]

“There’s also that……”

Her efforts were overshadowed, and her head kept falling down.

“…….You are angry. No, rather, is it closer to loneliness……?”

‘Oh, I can’t. I’m too sleepy.’

She confessed herself, but she didn’t get away from sleep.

“Whatever emotion you feel, it’s cowardly to let you not even express it.”

[If I express it, the capital will get destroyed.]

“Well, I understand what you mean, but I’m an aristocrat, so I have to stop it……”

What was Nathaniel doing? As she turned her head with strength in her eyes, he quickly responded to her.

Underneath his neat smile, the walls on the side were coldly blue, but Kyrie was afraid of his gaze for some reason.

He’s certainly a fearful being, and despite everyone saying that, Kyrie felt emptiness rather than fear from Nathaniel.

‘Why?’

He reached out his hand, and she was absent-mindedly in her sleep.

Then she whispered and smiled warmly like spring.

“But I don’t see you as someone like that either.”

Nathaniel remained silent for a very long time.

Kyrie thought he might have seen the universe in his eyes.

Finally, he whispered.

[Let’s go back, Kyrie.]

T/N rant: Initially whenever Kyrie used to look at Nathaniel’s eyes, she used to see ice-clear transparent blue eyes but now she saw the colour of her eyes in his.

So it means that his obsession slowly starts from this point onwards.
