Omegaverse: The Alpha X’s Prey

In the same control room, the Lab Director stared at the many computer screens-as he did the night he watched them run away with the omega baby. Deja-vu.

"Is that the omega?" A security guard asked, shocked. "In wolf form?"

"Yes. It would seem to be so." The Lab Director answered unconcerned.

"Could it be…" The guard wondered out loud. "No, that can't be right."

The Lab Director turned to face him. "Spill it."

Surprised, the guard stuttered his reply.

"I-I just had the feeling there could be more to the omega than what meets the eye." He averted his eyes from the Director's lifeless fish-like eyes.

Lifeless eyes squinted in scrutiny before the Director turned back to the screen and gave a hum in response, dismissing what the security personnel said.

Out of the corner of his eye, the Director saw the guard give a small-but noticeable-exhale of relief.

The pups walked together in silence. The eery grey walls of the lab brought more memories for Donovan. Maverick wasn't surprised by the look of nostalgia on his smaller twin's face. In fact it made him all the more reassured that Donovan is in fact his brother. His family.

Family. The word put a goofy smile on Maverick's wolfish face.

"I can't reach…" Donovan's strained voice broke Maverick's train of thought. He looked up and had to stifle a chuckle. The omega morphed back into human form and was trying to push the elevator buŧŧon. What was comical was the omega's futile jumps. They reminded the alpha of the litter of bunnies the Lab had brought in not long ago.

Maverick wasn't allowed to play with them, of course. Something about they needed to pass a test first. Guess none of them passed as no one mentioned the bunnies again.

"Let me." Maverick suddenly felt like a big brother. He was beaming from ear to ear when he morphed into human form, his white hospital clothes flapped around him. In his mind it became dazzling cape and he a heroic superhero.

If Donovan hadn't reminded himself not to be scared of the alpha's teeth, he would have mistaken the harmless smile for a threatening and somewhat murderous face. He pushed the scary thought into the back of his mind and turned his face to give a smile of appreciation. Maverick responded by ruffling his head, still in big brother superhero mode.

"I'll take you to where they're keeping my ma-your brother." Maverick's smiling expression was now sullen. The heroic feeling vanished, in its place was dread. "I'll strap him to your back so you can run by wolf while I clear the path."

Donovan bit his lip uncertainly, an image flashed in his mind for a second. "What if he falls off?"

"He won't."

"But what if-"

"HE WON'T!" Maverick yelled, his hand banged against the metal wall of the elevator loudly, making Donovan slightly cower into the wall. Maverick's amber eyes turned into a darker shade, almost a deep burgundy orange. His breath was ragged, trying to calm his temper.

Silence filled the elevator. They are almost at the Lab.

"What will you do after this?" Donovan changed the subject.

"I'll stop them from following you until you reach the elevator." Maverick had a look of determination on his face.

"No I meant… after all this is over?"

Maverick stopped. He was surprised. "I...don't know." There was a pause as he mulled the question over. "I suppose I'll go back to my room and wait for my punishment. Everyone will be angry and disappointed with me."

"You can com-"

Ding!

The doors opened to reveal six security personnel, fully equipped with amour and guns. All of them pointing at the elevator.

The Director tsked disapprovingly, hands pocketed in his lab coat pockets leisurely. "I see you brought a guest."

Maverick pushed Donovan behind him. The hairs on the back of his neck rose. Of course. It was inevitable they'd cross paths with the devil.

"I'm disappointed in you. You shouldn't have broken the rules." The devil chastised. Seeing how the Alpha X didn't budge the man's irritation grew.

"You shouldn't have forgotten I'm always watching you." The Director's marred lip lifted in a hideous arrogant smirk. Everyone knows how much he likes putting the Alpha X in his place. Reminding him the Director is always stronger, the true alpha of the Lab.

Maverick growled, but it wasn't as ferocious like the one displayed on the surface. "I didn't forget."

"I see the failure is alive." The Director leaned his head to the side to take a better look at the omega behind Maverick. Maverick shuffled to the side in a futile attempt to shield his little brother.

Donovan didn't feel a threatening aura from the Director, but somehow this man scares his brother to no end. Something was off about him. He was emitting Alpha pheromones but, his scent…

"How can a Beta emit Alpha pheromones?" Donovan peeked his head around his twin, unaffected by this domineering man. His eyes looked squarely into lifeless ones. There was nothing but innocent curiosity in the omega's eyes.

Everyone stiffened.
