Omegaverse: The Alpha X’s Prey

Chapter 16 - Saved from this hell.

They arrived at the door to the room where the newborn was held captive. Surprisingly they had no more troubles. The people they happened to come across with paid them attention. Maverick didn't seem to mind it whereas Donovan found it most peculiar, peering at each person they came across.

"Should I stay here when you say your goodbyes?" Donovan asked gently.

Maverick didn't say a word as he pulled his hand free from Donovan and opened the door.

"Ten minutes." A hoarse voice said. "Please."

Donovan suspected if they were to make eye contact, Maverick would have eyes brimming with tears-forcing himself not to shed any. Donovan sighed and turned away out of respect. In his opinion, ten minutes was too long. But he knew how much this meant to his big brother.

"I'll guard the door then."

This would be the first time Maverick would meet his mate. As soon as the baby was brought in, he was reeled into the lab for tests and whatnot. Similar to what Maverick had to do every time he came over to his… "second home".

To prevent stimulating the Alpha X of the arrival of his mate, they injected a chemical substance that would keep him asleep for twelve hours. It was because of his deep slumber, Maverick was able to focus on the presence of his twin, thus making contact and establishing their bond.

Twelve hours passed and not a second too soon, Maverick wakes up. Only to be alerted that he was needed to protect the Lab from oncoming intruders. What provoked him the most was that the Director told him they were coming to steal his mate away.

For the past four months, all Maverick could think about was his mate. To be precise, since the day he was informed about the mate bond and was promised his mate was coming soon.

He began to wonder what they were like. What toys would they want to play with him? Do they also like chocolate ice cream? Maverick unconsiously started living in a fantasy where his mate was next to him. It helped him to get through each excruciatingly painful day.

Everyday Maverick would ask (almost every ȧduŀt nearby) if his mate was coming. He was eager to have a companion that wasn't an ȧduŀt in a white lab coat with serious faces as they observed him under scrutinizing gazes.

As for his parents, they were even worse than staying at the Lab. When he failed to meet their expectations… They had forgotten that the all powerful Alpha X was still only a child and tried to make him stronger using their own violent means. In a way it did work. After every "session", Maverick worked harder to make his parents proud, to escape the violence.

Of course with hard work bȧrės sweet fruits of success. But the bitter aftertaste was not something even Maverick could handle.

He started getting better results… but that only raised his parents' expectations and encouraged the "sessions", making each worse than the last.

But! That didn't matter. The thought of his mate coming motivated Maverick every day. He knew he needed to be strong to protect his darling omega. So every ounce of pain was gladly received. He was doing this to be someone his mate would be proud of. Someone his parents would be proud of. Someone the lab would be proud of.

Everything he went through would be worth it because his mate was coming. Once they come…

He would be saved from this hell.
