The boys spent the rest of their time playing with each other. Running around, attempting to give each other piggybacks (that was mostly Donovan), spending much missed time together.

In this world, it was always daytime. There were never clouds and walking in one direction for a long time only takes you right back where you started. Unfortunately injuries made here passed onto the real world. Maverick was always very careful around his fragile brother. Making said fragile little brother a little irritated.

"I'm strong too!" Donovan would always huff, of which Maverick would only give him a pointed look.

On the bright side, this world belongs to these twins and these twins alone. They decided to call this world Home.

"When are we going to wake up? To the real world, I mean." Donovan asked lazily. The boys finally exhausted themselves out.

"You'll know when you're going to wake up." Maverick said. "You'll feel it."

"Mmhm, ok."

A comfortable silence followed.

"Why didn't you use your abilities...on that night?" The question slipped from Donovan's mouth. Immediately he sat up and scooched away from the Alpha X, worried he might be angry.

Maverick slowly sat up, his face dark.

"I'm not strong enough."

Those four words carried so much bitterness.

"Oh." Donovan didn't know how to answer to that. Should he disagree? Agree? Change the subject altogether?

"But someday I will be, and that night will never repeat itself." Maverick looked at Donovan with much determination, scaring the omega a little.

"Alright." Donovan nodded.

"I'm going to wake up soon." Maverick suddenly said as he jumped to his feet. He needs to tell Donovan something before he leaves him all alone.

"I'm sorry." Maverick bent down and locked eyes with Donovan's confused ones. Soon those confused eyes turned blank.

Blank eyes close and the omega is sleeping. This is for Donovan's own good. Wiping his memories of that night, of meeting him, is for his own protection.

Maverick closed his eyes. Where he was standing there were two imprints in the grass, the only evidence Maverick was there.

Moments later Donovan opened his eyes.

At the Lab

"Staying quiet won't help solve anything." The Director stood in front of a stubborn Maverick.

He would erase everyone's memories if he could, but he didn't have the capabilities. The drawback of erasing Donovan's mind was visible in his face.

"I'm tired." Maverick quietly whispered. Funny how he just woke up from a coma and all he wants to do is sleep like the dead.

Bang!

"Where are they?" The Director had slammed his marred hand onto the metal table, making a dent. Maverick flinched.

"I won't ask again." This time he leaned closer, his hot breath fanning across Maverick.

The boy only turned away. Even if he knew where they were, he wouldn't tell the anyone. Least of all the devil.

The Director was fuming. The easy way never works. So hard way it is. The man slowly stood to his full height, towering over Maverick.

"Take him to the Chamber."

Maverick's head snapped up. Eyes wide, the beginning of a waterfall of tears arrived.

"A few minutes in there should make you...cooperative... yes?" The Director had a sinister glint in his eyes when two guards entered the room.

One of them had a large syringe in hand. Full of clear purple liquid.

Anti-X Solution. The only substance that render the Alpha X powerless. Nothing but a human. A beta-C. Ordinary.

Susceptible to pain. A lot of pain.

Maverick wasn't able to make a sound before the needle was plunged into his arm. His world went dark.

Without the Alpha X, Maverick just became Maverick. Plain old Maverick. Nothing special.

Without the Alpha X, Maverick couldn't go Home.

Y City Hospital

"Are you sure?" Iris asked for the nth time. She was currently holding her son in the waiting room. This would be Kyle's fifth doctor's appointment. Everyone was very concerned about the oddly shaped birthmark on his hip. It was constantly bleeding for some unknown reason. Not a lot to panic over, but enough to be concerned about.

She still couldn't believe her ears. Donovan? Her Donovan? A monster?

"Ask anyone who was there!" Gabrielle exasperatedly said. She finally told Iris what really happened that night.

As of last week, Iris thought Donovan only was hurt because things got really bad in the fight against the Lab. Gabrielle can't even remember how she fabricated Donovan's injuries. Obviously Iris couldn't ask Gilbert.

He's gone.

"Alright. I understand." Iris immediately stopped voicing her doubts. The whole situation seemed fishy to her, but the excitement of her child's return held all of her attention.

After the excitement subsided, Iris could only look over a sleeping and pale Donovan with guilt stricken eyes. She made sure to visit him every other weekend. Taking care of Kyle takes up much of her time.

But now... it seems she has nothing to be guilty for, if Donovan turned out just as bad as the Alpha X. Silently, Iris held onto her stubborn doubts.

"Let's not argue." Gabrielle sighed, rubbing her tired eyes. She hadn't had a good night's sleep since that day. If only Gilbert didn't make her promise.

Gilbert. Grief entered Gabrielle's heart. She would like to blame Donovan and the Alpha X for his death. But it wasn't something they did.

She killed him. It was her finger that pulled the trigger. But it was Gilbert the bullet hit. Not Donovan. Gabrielle winced at the memory. She would do anything to see his ridiculous afro these days. That's how much she missed him.

Iris comfortingly massaged Gabrielle's hand. She knows her mate has been through a lot. Sacrifices were made to get back their child.

Suddenly pounding steps were heard, louder and louder as they neared the waiting room. Moments later the door burst open, a panting nurse struggled for breath as she looked around frantically.

She visibly relaxed when she saw the very people she was looking for.

"Mrs.. Oaks, Donovan's awake."
