Paying The Price

Chapter 34 - Did You See Her?

In the alley, Pearl saw a purple blanket by her right hand side, it looked clean and could cover her entire body.

It must have been left here unintentionally, Pearl was taught not to take things that didn't belong to her, but she needed this one. She would likely return it later.

Covering her body with the purple blanket, she felt her hair itch so badly making her take off the blue hair band from her hair to get some relief.

Pearl scratched her hair for a while then smoothly brushed it to her back, subsequently, she made her way to the next street.

She meet up a group of children who were about her age guided by three a.d.u.l.ts, the children looked like they were on a tour. They happened to just pass by the alley that Pearl came out from, moving to the middle of them, she blended perfectly.

Meanwhile, the old man's men expected to see a girl with a white shirt, blue pants and hair packed up in a ponytail, surprisingly after the group of children passed by, she didn't show up. The men walked to the alley, surveying the surrounding in expectation to find her, to no avail. "Did you see her?" the leader asked through his earpiece.

"No." One of the tech guys answered, he was solely focused on the screen but yet again she had surpassed his keen site.

"Check among those children." Oliver commanded in frustration, because the old man was calm doesn't mean all was well. The kid was outsmarting them all and they won't permit it.

The children made a stop to learn about a particular statue in the city, the teachers busily explained in details the origin of the statue and it's significance to the children understanding. The men saw this as an opportunity to make their search for the little girl. Sighting a girl with a purple attire, they skillfully drew her away from the crowd.

What a mistake it was.

The pony tailed girl let out a loud scream, drawing the teachers and everyone else attention. Only then did they realize it wasn't her.

While the men tried to give an excuse for their suspicious action, Pearl who was about twelve feet away bumped into a French lady, for she had been looking at the commotion behind.

"Oh! Pardon me little one." The French lady in her 40's apologized to Pearl. The innocent bruised face caught her interest.

"Mon Cher, are you alright? What happened to you? Ugh, this Americans leaving such an adorable thing to wonder on her own in the streets. And look! you're hurt." The French woman looked rich, her clothes were stunning and her bag hung on her arm in a sophisticating manner. Behind her, a man smartly dressed in a black suit stood, holding numerous shopping bags.

'He must be her butler.' Pearl thought.

"Where are your parents and where are you doing to?" The lady asked.

"I had an accident and am going to the police station." Pearl answered with a smile. Even with the dirt on her face and some scratches also, she still looked beautiful.

"What good is the police when you're hurt." Remarked the lady. "Come my child, let me care for your wounds first." She continued.

"Umm... the station isn't far." Pearl pointed to the station some blocks away.

"If you don't come with me I won't be able to sleep this night. Don't worry my dear, I'll take you to the police once you're well. I promise." She assured Pearl.

Pearl looked at the station not too far of, she felt she couldn't take another step and the woman doesn't seem to be easily persuaded.

She decided to yield to the lady's request and entered the Mercedes that the butler had opened it's door.
