Chapter 34 - Kingdom Suicide

APRIL 27

Boris looked at the papers on his desk. They had kept him entertained in the first week of Dominic's leave but as he sat on his chair entering the fourth week, the "princely" duties could no longer keep him busy. He laid his head on the cold desk and closed his eyes. 'How was it out there? Should I have gone instead?' He thought as the harsh reality of losing his prince in a war would devastate him. If he had gone instead, the prince could look after his kingdom and prevent endangering his life. 'What if he came back dead? What will happen then? Who will rule? The kingdom would go up in flames.' Flames, Boris shivered remembering his past. He couldn't let that happen again.

Knock Knock

Boris' attention is drawn to the door, "come in."

He arranged Dominic's desk while the person came in.

"Did you think about it?" The voice asked.

Boris looked up at Felix, anger rising up in him, "get out."

"Boris, please just join us. Our Kingdom cannot be ruled by a young prince, that's kingdom suicide," Felix sighed.

"You would know about death, I don't think it would be that hard to kill a few other people," Boris painfully laughed, "I don't care because I know who my king is. I was given the task of looking after the throne, not to give it to villains clawing at our feet for the throne. If you are done with your pathetic attempt for the week, please get out."

Felix was taken aback by Boris' resistance. He knew he had done something that ruined and took the lives of his parents, but Boris had never resisted him so long, hated him for this long, refused to even see him for this long while they were friends. But then again, they weren't friends anymore.

"Am I supposed to believe that?" Felix asked, "Am I supposed to believe that someone from such a low upbringing such as us wouldn't want to taste power once again after getting a sip?"

Boris looked up at Felix, "Though I may have stemmed from the same past as you, I was not born with a twisted mind. I will never have a thirst for power that isn't mine."

"Boris, you have always been one to stick with the people you know, do you think you know the prince? That beast on the battlefields isn't your friend, he doesn't know you, but I know every crevice in your brain. I have known you since we were kids, whatever you think the prince knows about you I know double," Felix argued, refusing to be refused.

"Whatever you claim you know about me should be long gone, people change Felix, some for the good, others for the bad," Boris replied looking away from Felix, "I just wonder where you went wrong, or if you were always wrong and I never noticed. I don't care if the prince doesn't know much about me, the longer I stay by his side, the more he will know."
