Pokemon Pearl
Chapter 9 - 9 - Battle with a Friend
The next morning, the early morning, as the sun rises halfway through, Rico and Riolu went to the beach and trained up, building their strength, bond, and power up.
Later at school, Rico even show it to his classmates. They were amazed, especially Santiago, one of Rico's classmates, who owned a Bulbasaur. He then commented to Rico, "Amazing! A Riolu? It's a Fighting-type Pokèmon. How did you caught it? It's a rare Pokèmon." Stunned, Rico replied, "What? Rare? I guess I am very lucky to catch it. Anyway, I got it from being caught by Pokemon thieves."
"Wow, you rescued it?" Santiago replied, "That's great. Did you become its trainer, and are you being given a Pokedex?"
"Yes, both," Rico answered his question.
"Incredible!" Santiago replied, "Now you are officially a Pokemon trainer."
"Me? A Pokemon trainer?" Rico responded, "Yeah, I am now." After a brief short silence, Santiago asked Rico, "Hey, do you want to battle me? My Bulbasaur versus your Riolu." With confidence, Rico responded, "Sure, why not."
Then, Rico and Santiago had a Pokemon battle, calling their first Pokèmon out. Santiago, acting out his first move, then commanded Bulbasaur, "Bulbasaur, use Tackle!" His Bulbasaur then used Tackle, charging towards Riolu.
"Alright, Riolu," Rico commanded Riolu, "Use Quick Attack!" Riolu then used Quick Attack, charging towards Bulbasaur in a fast pace. Both of them collided to each other.
"Use Vine Whip!" Santiago commanded Bulbasaur. His Bulbasaur then used Vine Whip, extending its vine-like whips and starts to whip and slap Riolu. Thinking fast, Rico commanded Riolu, "Quickly, use Karate Chop!" Riolu then used Karate Chop, delivering a sharp chop, striking Bulbasaur directly.
"Quickly, use Stun Spore!" Santiago commanded Bulbasaur. His Bulbasaur used Stun Spore, spraying a wave of orange spores, paralyzing Riolu. Thinking even faster, Rico quickly commanded Riolu, "Quickly, use Karate Chop!" Despite being paralyzed, Riolu managed to use Karate Chop, delivering a sharp chop, striking Bulbasaur effectively. Bulbasaur had fainted, and one of Rico's classmates, acting as the referee, announced, "Bulbasaur is unable to battle. Riolu wins, and the match goes to Rico." Having won his second battle, this time against a friend, Rico rejoiced in happiness. Calling his Bulbasaur back, Santiago commented, "Well, that was a fun battle. I won around 2 battles, but this the first time I lost against you."
"I know right," Rico responded as he heals his Riolu with a potion and a paralyze heal, "This is my second battle. The first one is against the Pokèmon thieves, the exact thieves who tried to catch Riolu." Stunned by this, Santiago and others responded, "We never know that."
"Oh, I forgot to tell you about that part," Rico admitted in apology; he and his friends then laughed.
Later, at afternoon, as their class was dismissed, as it is now finished, Rico and his friends were walking away from school, discussing about a Legendary Pokemon named Arceus. One of his friends, Raymond, said that Arceus was the first Pokèmon to be created; he then continued, "Arceus is also the one who created other Pokèmon, but I can't name all or most of them. It's just so many."
"It's okay," Rico replied, "I think you have to research and study more." And then, as things were settled, a city bus stopped at the bus stop where they stood. Its route is, "Kawayan Central Mall - Laurel Road - West Peñon Railway Station via Watas Keng Avenue." Upon seeing the bus, Rico said to his friends, "Well, this is my bus. I guess I'll see you tomorrow. I have stuff to do. Bye;" he then boarded the bus. Moments later, once the doors closed, the bus left the stop as Rico's classmates wavered goodbye to him.
