Reincarnated As A Chameleon And Eating Everything To Evolve

While Matthew had made contact with creatures that could use their inherent aura element, Matthew actually hadn't been aware of the existence of the inherent aura element before. But now that the system told him that such things exist and Matthew also has one, of course, Matthew was dying to know what is his inherent aura element.

Fortunately, the system didn't say something like 'information restricted' or told him that he needed to find out on his own.

'System, what is my inherent aura element?' He asked the system.

[Being a chameleon, host's inherent aura element is the Illusion element.]

'Illusion element? What does it do?'

[As its name implies, the illusion element is capable of creating constructs that seem real even though it's actually not.]

'System, I think what you've just said is the definition of illusion is it not? Can't you give me something more easily understood such as the practical example of the use of the illusion element?' Matthew asked the system.

'It's been quite a while since I had this kind of conversation with the system…' Matthew silently thought in his mind.

[Some of the example of the practical use of host' inherent aura element is to make host's body completely blend into the surroundings-]

'But my aura chameleon aura ability already does that, isn't quite usele-' Matthew suddenly said, cutting the system mid-sentence. However, it seems that Matthew isn't the only one who can play the game of cutting in when others hadn't finished talking as the system also ignored Matthew's complaint completely and continued explaining as if telling Matthew to shut up while it was still speaking.

[And the illusion element was also capable of making the host's body look different from host' actual body. For example, host can make host's body look bigger than they actually are or host can even change host's whole appearance into something else that either has many similarities or even completely different from host's original body.]

Matthew took his time digesting and trying to understand the system's explanation about the illusion element, then asked several questions to check whether his understanding was correct or not.

'System, so does that mean that I can make my body look 3 or 4 meters tall for the others?'

'Can I also make myself look exactly like the trolls?'

[Yes, as long as host is able to paint the image vividly in host's mind before guiding the illusion aura to change its color and shape according to the image in the host's mind, then it would be possible to do so.]

Although it seems that Matthew had already learned more about the illusion element, he still has one question that he wanted to ask the system.

'Then, can I make it as if I have three heads, with one in the middle spouting fire out of its mouth, water for the left head, and thunder from the right one?'

'What about making it look as if I have six arms, and nine legs? Oh! Oh! Can I make it look as if I had flying wolves floating above my heads as though they were my guardian spirit animals? '

The system seemed to have been frozen for a second when it heard Matthew's question as if it was doubting that it had been asked such a question by Matthew. But it only lasted for a moment before the system shortly answered,

[Yes.]

Hearing the system's confirmation, Matthew knew that the illusion element that he got is not as simple as he thought it would be.

Some people might ask what is the use of making your body look bigger if it didn't actually get bigger? He would still be overpowered by a bear that genuinely has a bigger and stronger body. Or what is the use of making his body look smaller if his actual body is still the same size? Doesn't it mean that he still won't have the agility that a creature with a smaller body has?

But from his weird questions earlier, Matthew was able to figure out that his illusion element really gives him so much freedom on how he actually uses the element. He wasn't restricted to only making his body look smaller and bigger.

Making his body smaller or bigger also have their merits and simple uses such as making his body look towering in front of a group of deer to make them run away, or basically to make his opponents think twice before engaging him in a fight. Or he could also make his body as small as the kobold children, making himself look weak and vulnerable to bait his enemy to pounce on him and underestimate him only to surprise them later with his actual strength.

But both of those examples were only the simplest use of the illusion element that Matthew could come up with from the system's explanation of how the illusion aura works.

One example of the more complex use of the illusion aura would be to create an illusion of himself at a location somewhere far from his actual body and use it to distract his opponent while his real body would be invisible using the chameleon's aura ability, slowly sneaking up behind his distracted enemy.

Using that kind of method, Matthew would be able to launch an ambush attack towards his opponents even if they originally had seen Matthew's body.

Matthew could just go jump behind a tree or a tree bush before using his chameleon aura ability to disappear then create a fake illusion of himself, exiting from the other side. Making it as if it was his real body that was running away.

Matthew didn't know whether the beasts in the deeper parts of the forest would have an ability to see through or deal with his invisibility, but thinking that there won't be any creature that would be able to counter his ability would be foolish. 

He knew the fact that he wasn't the only chameleon living inside this forest since he was born along with other chameleon eggs. He had never seen them before and either the chameleons must have roamed in the deeper parts of the forest or they are so good at hiding themselves that even Matthew wasn't able to detect them. But Matthew was more inclined towards the former rather than the latter since the kobolds didn't know about where his ability to go invisible had come from. Matthew might be only a few months old, but the kobolds have been living in the forest for years, there's no way they had never caught even a glimpse of the chameleons if they really lived in the outer parts of the forest.

So, it was realistic for him to think that even though his invisibility is quite a broken ability on the outer parts of the forest, there would be other creatures living in the deeper parts of the forest that would be able to deal with the chameleons' invisibility.

But for now, Matthew didn't think too much about the enemies he will be facing in the future. The fact that he had just added another strong and flexible ability to his arsenal, Matthew should be focusing on getting used to using it and eventually improving it.

'Thinking about improving the illusion element… System, is the illusion element ability only limited to creating a visual illusion?' Matthew had suddenly thought of this while imagining himself utilizing the illusion aura to do all kinds of things, creating traps, tricking his enemies, and such. Basically, his new ability is really a versatile one.

'If I could also make an auditory illusion, then that means I could also make fake footsteps, erasing my own footsteps, or even replicating beasts' sounds to intimidate my enemies.'

It would even make his highly adaptable ability become even more versatile and unlocked hundreds of new possibilities for him. 

Fortunately, the system didn't let him down and replied,

[Yes. But for the host current level, the only possible illusion to make is a visual illusion. As the host leveled up, more types of illusions will be available to the host. Not just auditory and visually, the Host will be able to create all the illusions to affect the 5 senses. Sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.]

Matthew was about to say some words, saying his illusion aura would be overpowered and incredible, but the system's next sentence left him speechless.

[After unlocking the ability to create illusions for the five senses. Eventually, the host will be able to manifest the illusion into reality but with very strict requirements.]

While it usually took Matthew about a few seconds to register and understand some complicated words that the system had said to him. This time, it took Matthew a full half-minute of silence until he finally took in what the system was saying to him.

'I could turn illusions into reality!!'

Matthew didn't really care about the last part saying that there were strict requirements for doing it. The fact that he could even do that is already something that is beyond his understanding of what was actually considered possible or impossible.

Matthew spent about another minute asking about the illusion aura before finally calming himself back down and returning back to the current reality from the far future of himself.

Matthew was too excited about unlocking his inherent aura element that he almost forgot about the second unlock text that he got for his fourth evolution.

Just from seeing the name, Matthew had some guesses about what it would be. But why would he try and guess what it would do if he could just ask the system?

'System, what is The Venom Option Glands?'

[Host has the +3 wandering spider's venom gland before the fourth evolution, hence why it had a qualitative evolution. The system also detected another venom gland with different yet supportive properties belonging to the Boa Dendroaspis, and the system combined the two together to create the venom option glands.]

'So, what you're trying to say is...?'

[Host is now able to customize host's venom to create venoms that have different symptoms for the recipient.]
