Return Of Aegis

Chapter 14 - Forging

Upon reaching the North gate, Captain Mir and his last guard just left. They didn't even say goodbye nor thank ZeLin for saving their lives.

ZeLin too ignored them, he went straight to his tent to begin forging. He needed to forge one equipment which was above Uncommon rank to pass his class change quest.

Before starting, he took one look at his stats, then proceeded to set aside the items required for the Evolving Bow and Returning Arrows. He was not going to forge those now, since he had the Frost Fire, it would be wiser to attempt making the Evolving Bow and Returning Arrows when he could use it.

The system provided players with the most basic tier of equipment for forging. Enhancing was easy, you just had to pop everything in the slots and press a button.

But for forging, you had to do it the old fashioned way. From melting the ore, to combining them and then hammering them into the shape you wanted.

Since there were no recipes for equipment, ZeLin had to wing it. He had 600 wind attribute ore, 3,500 silver cored steel ore and 500 steel ore.

Mimicking an old game from his younger days, ZeLin decided to make a dagger. In those days, there was even a meme for it - crafting daggers till one reach level 99 in smithing.

For his first attempt, he added 5 steel ore to the crucible and stuck it in the furnace. The flame used was a basic wood flame, the lowest grade and it's success rate of 10% only. ZeLin was lucky, on his first try, he made a crude dagger.

[Ding! Congratulations on making a Crude Dagger. 1 EXP gained.]

"Jesus, I need to make 500 Crude daggers to level up! This is so stupid, I should try something else." ZeLin thought to himself.

Next he tried 10 steel ore with 5 wind attribute ore, after melting the steel ore, he mixed in the melted wind attribute ore, the molten metal turned into a light shade of green. He then poured the mixture into a cast, filling it to the brim, he still had about half the molten metal, so he poured it into another cast.

Once cooled, he removed the cast and out popped two rough daggers. He placed both into the furnace, getting them red hot, then took one off with a pair of thongs, then began hammering it, once on each side. [Ting!] [Ting!] [Ting!] [Ting!] [Ting!] [Ting!] [Crack!]

"Damn it! Now it breaks!" sighed ZeLin. He took the next one off the fire and then begun the the hammering process again. [Ting!] [Ting!] [Ting!] [Ting!] [Ting!] [Ting!] [Crack!]

[Wind Dagger shattered! 1 EXP gained]

Unfazed, ZeLin continued on. After two hours of trying and countless broken daggers later, ZeLin let out a long sigh, "maybe I'm going the wrong way with this" he thought. He removed the dagger casts.

There were no throwing knife molds, so he had to make his own. He made a square using four 2x2 planks, then packed it tight with sand. Next he dismantled the [Crude Dagger] he made earlier, he kept the blade, then placed the hilt into the furnace to soften up. Once it was red hot, he used a tool in the tent to cut off some of the guard and grip, he cooled it by drenching it in oil.

Please with the shape, he pushed the daggers into the sand he prepared just now. The square could fit 6 throwing knives. He made channels for the molten metal to flow between each mold. Next he sealed the cast, then went to melt the metals again. He maintained the same ratio of Steel Ore to Wind Attribute Ore, but this time he added some Silver Cored Steel Ore to the mix. Silver cored steel ores were more malleable and worked as a good bonding agent.

Once well mixed, he poured the molten metal into the cast. He prayed that it would succeed. He estimated the knives would cool in 5 hours, he didn't waste his time. He used the 5 hours to try making more [Wind Daggers], changing the ratio and also adding some Silver Cored Steel ores.

At the end of 5 hours, ZeLin was level 6, having successfully made 6x [Wind Dagger]. 5 of 6 was of Uncommon rank and thanks to his hammer's buff, he even had 1 of Rare rank.

Wind Dagger (Lv 5)

Rarity: Rare

Attack: 50 + (10*DEX)

Passive: Critical Damage +10%

The Rare [Wind Dagger] was a huge surprise for ZeLin. After failing so many and finally making 6, he had one which was Rare.

He carefully removed the 6 from the mold then set it on the workbench. Using a pair of metal cutters, he cut off the excess metal formed by the "channels" connecting each dagger. Next he used sandstone to grind off any excess metal on the surface of the knives.

The knives took shape after another 2 hours of grinding and sanding. He sharpened the edges of the throwing knives, then checked the balancing. The knives were only as long as an a.d.u.l.t human hand, and as thick as a man's thumb.

The knives were silver in color, but had a tinge of green, the green seemed to travel along the edges of the blade rather than being stationary in one spot.

ZeLin tested the knives, his Dexterity wasn't very high, but he could do normal throws. Only after testing all 6 did the system notify him that he had successfully created the throwing knives.

[Ding! Congratulations on making a set of Throwing Knives. 5,000 EXP gained. Would you like to name this equipment?]

"Oh my lord! I made a named equipment!" ZeLin was jumping up and down like a lunatic. This was most probably even higher in rank than the [Wind Dagger], what's more is that he got to name it!

Since the knives were made from a mix of wind element and silver cored steel ores, ZeLin decided to name the set, [Silver Gale Blades].

[Ding! Congratulations on making a set of Silver Gale Blades. Since Item is player made, recipe will be generated. Do you want to make it available on the auction? Creator will gain 40% of all sales on the recipe. You can decide on this option in the future.]

"No, I won't be sharing this yet, not until I sell the blades first." It was normal to want to keep the recipe a secret first. Would be bad for business if the market was saturated with these blades.

"NO" It still wasn't the time for him to reveal himself.

[System: Would you like to edit the message?]

"YES"

[World Announcement: Congratulations to Yggdrasil for crafting the first Named equipment - Silver Gale Blades in Aegis. Player XXXXXX awarded with 500 Aegis Reputation points.]

As with all world announcements, it rang out three times.

It has only been 10 hours since game launch, and Yggdrasil had once again rocked the world of Aegis.

In the real world, big companies were looking into who Yggdrasil was, eager to be the first to sponsor them.
