Shinobi From Hell

Chapter 238: Ignorance is Bliss

It is often said that, if you want to know the importance of eyes, you should ask the blind.

And, if you want to know the importance of time, ask the athlete who had ranked second place by just a millisecond.

What's more? If you want to learn the importance of life without any purpose, ask the man who had lived his whole life as a slave.

That was what Klautz was. His past life had been nothing but slavery with no purpose and direction. He was an empty shell following orders. That is why Klautz had pledged to himself to bend to nothing… neither to the powerhouses nor to his circumstances.

The path that Klautz had chosen to walk might be a hard one. It might be possible that all of his efforts amount to nothing. It might be possible that the very people he had aimed to save turn against him and make him their enemy. But he would never stop walking on this path.

'Facing challenges with a purpose is what makes me feel alive. Even though it might kill me every day.'

Klautz reminded himself of the basic difference between his past and his present as he took in a breath of fresh air.

He turned towards the girl who had gone silent with lifeless eyes. Her fingers circled on the same muddy floor that she sat on with no brightness in her air.

"Answer another question of mine now since I just answered one of yours. Consider it just as payment of my service," Klautz continued, "What do you think is the chances of someone surviving after his body being torn apart in a thousand pieces?"

Evelyn turned to him with a bewildered expression on her face.

"None? Was that supposed to be a joke to cheer me up?" she asked in a shaky voice.

"Exactly! The possibilities are none. A whopping zero percent. Isn't that right? But I was really bewildered when I actually saw it happening."

Klautz lips arched to a smile as he reminisced about the fateful day.

"Is that so? Is that even possible?"

Evelyn spoke with a wrinkled brow. She was not buying any of Klautz's claims.

Klautz shrugged, stroking his chin claiming that he didn't know either as to how that was possible. Even till today, Klautz had found no reason even though he was always looking for one. But no matter how much he thinks he wasn't able to wrap his head on that event.

'I should have died, shouldn't I?'

Klautz sighed.

"Anyway, I can do you a favor at the very least for your cooperation so far. If you have already lost all hope, I can kill you instead of them doing it. This is the least I can do for you if you wish for it. At least your death would be a painless one. Otherwise, who knows what kind of torture they will put you through."

Evelyn narrowed her eyes at the sudden turn of dialogues.

'He is right!'

*sigh*

But she was soon to change her mind.

Evelyn shook her head.

"Thanks but no. I would like to spend a few days more and travel around this world to witness its wonders. And I would see it through even if it kills me."

Evelyn wasn't willing to give up as it was. Had she chosen to die on her own accord she would have killed herself long before all of this had even begun. She would have attended the same funeral that her mom did. Except for the fact that she would have been in the same coffin as her mom. At least she wouldn't have to attend her father's wedding ceremony with her stepmother.

Klautz smirked.

"As you wish"

Klautz waved his hand as he left. She watched Klautz visage go away as she was again left on her own terms.

"Now, it all depends on me."

At that time Evelyn didn't know that Klautz didn't mean his casual goodbye at all! In fact, it was at most a feign to trick her into believing that she was all alone. Klautz still had his tabs on her. There was much more to the matter than Evelyn could have probably realized.

But her ignorance was Klautz's bliss.

"Hmmm, when are we going to reach butler?"

"I believe that we have already covered half of the way. It's only a matter of time before we reach there."

A boy gazed out of the window of a carriage that was majestically decorated. Pulled by horned beasts that seemed to come out of one's dreams, it was indeed a carriage befitting to travel on and to be guarded against dangers. The beasts that pulled it had once been ferocious in the wild. But in the face of absolute power, they too had no choice but to become tame.

The boy held onto his chin in annoyance. There were many things that didn't suit him well and this was one of them.

He wasn't the only one in the carriage, rather it was a shared one where many children of second-gen were traveling alongside each other.

Purpose? To reach the level cap. But that was only the face value of this visit. The true worth of the newbie camp for the second-gen was to build strong connections and to create one's own factions and gain as many followers as possible.

It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that all second-gen looked forward to as this event was enough to create ripples in their future accomplishments.

But the young boy with black hair seemed uninterested in all of that. He was doing quite a good job in slacking off as he gazed at the distance.

"Butler, how many cavalries work under me at the moment?" the boy asked with a nonchalant voice.
