Special District 9
Chapter 117: A Wrong Step, and the Whole Game is Over
“Understood!”
“Got it!”
“…!”
Several responses sounded through the walkie-talkie.
Di ling ling!
It was at this moment that a phone rang inside the car.
Without even bothering to look at the screen, Baldie immediately received the call, “Hello?”
Through the speaker, he could hear the sound of a furious gale, but there was no response at all.
“Hello? Speak! Hello?” Baldie shouted over. He instinctively lowered his gaze to take a look at the caller id, and when he saw the name on it, he froze in place.
“How long more? I can already see the signage you spoke of,” Yong Dong’s voice sounded through the phone. “I’m about a few hundred meters off. Continue to head forward? Do I need to make any turns?”
Baldie was taken aback by the voice for just an instant before he slapped his thigh in agitation, exclaiming, “I knew it! There was no way Yong Dong would have betrayed us so easily!”
“Bro, is that a call from Brother Dong?” the driver asked.
“Yeah!” Baldie nodded excitedly. Sitting in the passenger seat, he picked up his walkie-talkie once more and ordered, “Everyone, listen well. Slow down your speed and off your headlights. Continue driving straight ahead. The enemy should be in the vicinity of some signage in front.”
Right after Baldie said those words, Yuan Hua’s voice sounded, “How do you know that? Who told you?”
“Yong Dong called me,” Baldie immediately replied. “He’s probably pretending to cooperate with the enemy in order to lure them out. Old Yuan, Yong Dong didn’t betray us.”
Yuan Hua was silent for a moment before he nodded solemnly, “Good brother!”
…
In the barren land.
Old Cat looked at Qin Yu impatiently as he said, “Yong Dong is already here, so shouldn’t we get Uncle Ma to make a move too? What are you playing at?”
“No hurry, wait a little longer,” Qin Yu raised his hand and said.
“What are you waiting for? He has already shaken off the other party’s men. We should get him now!” Old Cat exclaimed in confusion.
“Just wait when I tell you to!” Qin Yu covered his phone and shouted at Old Cat in impatience.
Old Cat immediately zipped up his mouth.
…
Two minutes later.
Yong Dong arrived at the signage. While panting heavily, he asked through the phone, “I’m already here, where are you?”
“Turn left and run another 100 meters. I want you to enter the alley,” Qin Yu instructed. “Enter Uncle Ma’s car. I’ll get the others to delay Yuan Hua’s men.”
Yong Dong gritted his teeth. Without bothering to respond, he immediately turned to his left and dashed into the alleyway.
In just a few seconds, Yong Dong had arrived at the spot Qin Yu mentioned. But when he turned around to take a look, there was no car in sight at all. All he saw was an old motorcycle leaning against the wall.
Yong Dong was dumbfounded. Holding onto the phone tightly, he howled, “What the fuck at you playing at?”
There was a slight pause over here before Qin Yu asked, “Yong Dong, do you have any other cards? I suggest you deal them right now, or else Yuan Hua’s men will be arriving very soon.”
“Fuck you! I have already thrown away my microphone, and you are still in the mood to joke around with me?!” Yong Dong bellowed in fury. “If I had any cards, would I have ended up in this state?”
“Alright then,” Qin Yu replied calmly. “If you said that you don’t have any cards, get on the motorcycle and drive ahead. I’m waiting for you at the fork ahead.”
Yong Dong swept his surroundings with reddened eyes before he bellowed with clenched jaws, “You aren’t here at all, isn’t it? You are fucking toying with me!”
“We can’t afford to lose here either,” Qin Yu replied. “But you can be assured that I’m not tricking you this time around. Ride the motorcycle ahead, I’m waiting for you at the fork. They are all driving on jeeps, so there’s no way they can catch up on you on narrow roads.”
“Why don’t you go and fuck yourself!”
Yong Dong roared furiously as he threw the phone on the ground and stomped on it with his feet.
…
In the barren land.
Qin Yu slowly put his phone down with a contemplative look on his face.
“Did we lose control of Old Ma?” one of Old Ma’s brothers walked forward and asked.
Qin Yu glanced at the other party and replied, “He hung up my phone.”
After hearing those words, Old Ma’s brother complained in incomprehension, “We had a chance to nab him earlier, so why didn’t you allow us to make a move? Did we run around this entire night just to toy with Yong Dong? What’s the meaning in that?”
Qin Yu looked at the other party without saying a word.
Old Ma’s brother glared at Qin Yu with an awful look on his face for a moment before he shouted to his own men, “Grab your guns, we’re heading over to snatch Yong Dong over!”
“Don’t move!” Qin Yu bellowed sharply. “Look at how many people they have! What’s the use of the couple of you charging right in? Have you forgotten how Ma Lao-er was done in?”
Old Ma’s brother froze at those words.
“Wait a little longer,” Qin Yu said grimly. “We’ll remain in control of the situation as long as Xing Zihao is in our hands. Even if we don’t get anything out of tonight, we’ll just be returning to square one at most. As long as I want to negotiate, Yuan Hua will have no choice but to pick up my phone!”
…
In the alleyway amidst the warehouses.
After Yong Dong smashed his phone, he heard the revving of engines coming from the direction where he came from.
After that, from another phone, Baldie’s voice sounded, “Yong Dong! Did you manage to come into contact with the enemy? Did you get exposed? I heard you fighting with them earlier. Just stay there and don’t move, we’ll be there right away!”
Yong Dong stared at the phone screen with a darkened expression. He knew that it was futile to lie anymore, so he hung up the phone and began running toward the right of the alleyway.
In the car.
Baldie was shouting at the phone when the call suddenly ended. With a bewildered look on his face, Baldie cursed, “What the hell is Yong Dong up to? Why did he hang up the phone again?!”
“Are we still following him?” the driver asked.
“Yes, follow him!” Baldie ordered. “We’ll talk about it once we meet him.”
Weng weng!
The car turned leftward and drove right into the depths of the alleyway.
…
After Yong Dong ran for another 200 meters, he found himself standing right before a plot of barren land. It was then that he took out another set of wireless microphone from the pockets of his clothes and said with reddened eyes, “The other party is too sly. They aren’t willing to go head-on with Yuan Hua at all. You don’t need to wait anymore, come over to fetch me.”
Half a minute later, a car arrived by the side of the alleyway. Glaring headlights were directed at Yong Dong, who was standing in the midst of the barren land. Baldie leaped out of the car and bellowed, “What the fuck do you mean by that? Do you need me to take a gun and point it at you?”
Yong Dong didn’t reply. He continued sprinting ahead with all his might.
“Fire. Force him to surrender,” Baldie ordered without any hesitation.
Those in the car quickly got down with their guns and fired toward Yong Dong.
Tap tap tap tap.
A series of footsteps suddenly sounded by the left of the alleyway, and four men wrapped in thick cotton clothes appeared. Two of them were holding onto machine guns whereas the other two were holding onto assault rifles.
Bang bang bang bang!
An intense gunfight ensued. In a matter of moments, three men from Yuan Hua’s side had already fallen.
In the midst of the barren land, Qin Yu raised his head after hearing the gunshot. He clenched his fists tightly and cursed, “Bloody hell, I knew it! How could someone as smart as Yong Dong possibly put his life on the line for a fool like Xing Zihao? Do you hear the gunshots? Yong Dong came prepared! If we had received him earlier, the one who would be fighting with the Yuan Family right now is us, and Yong Dong would have gotten away meanwhile!”
The crowd stared at Qin Yu in a daze, unable to believe what had just happened. Old Ma’s brother turned to him and asked, “But what if your guess was wrong, and Yong Dong hadn’t made any preparations?”
“As long as the other party doesn’t know that Xing Zihao is dead, we can lure Yong Dong out for a thousand times. But if we were to make a mistake even once during this thousand times, the entire game will be over. Our heads will roll,” Qin Yu replied.
“Got it!”
