Special District 9
Chapter 4: Go, Ol’ Three
“They don’t appear to be from the Special District,” Qin Yu said with a lowered head.
“How can you tell?” Old Cat asked curiously.
“They are wearing too thick, and there are frostbites on their body,” Qin Yu pointed out sharply. “They seem to be fixers from the Development District.”
“What are fixers?”
“Those who make a living out of fiddling knives and guns,” Qin Yu scratched his nose.
Those words deflated Old Cat’s confidence by a little, “Then if the two of us blindly charge in and wrestle with them, do you think we can win?”
“Did you bring your gun?” Qin Yu asked.
“Why the hell would I bring my gun out to eat?” Old Cat shook his head.
“Then we shouldn’t make a move yet,” Qin Yu pondered for a moment before adding, “Give a call to the platoon.”
While the two of them were communicating with one another, the four men had already stood up together with the woman, and they were starting to make their way toward the counter to foot their bill.
“Shit, they are leaving!” Old Cat’s hand was trembling as he picked up his wine cup, and he was so nervous that he was starting to get a little incoherent. “Should we tail them?”
“Do you have Wind-and-fire Wheels like Nezha?” Qin Yu replied speechlessly. “They drove here! Are you going to chase them on your legs? You are kidding me!”
“Damn, I forgot about that…”
Qin Yu discreetly glanced at those four men as he added on with a slight furrow on his forehead, “If those four fixers have something on, they would have all sorts of things on them. We won’t be able to stop them even if we leap out now.”
Old Cat was actually feeling very nervous inside. Even though he was working on the frontlines as well, he was like a wandering immortal kind of character in there. Dangerous work would never find its way to him. He had never participated in any large-scale operations before either. Even the gun he had below had shot more times than the gun he had in his hand.
Despite so, he still said these words to Qin Yu, “It’s one thing if we are ordinary folks, but we are wearing this skin on us. We can’t just ignore such a thing after bumping into it. Hurry up and think of something…”
“We aren’t carrying weapons with us, we don’t have the advantage in numbers, we aren’t able to catch up with them, and it’ll be too late if we call the platoon right now… What the heck can I do?” Qin Yu was frustrated as well. “Unless a miracle appears, otherwise…”
And at this very moment, the doors of the restaurant blasted open, and six muscled young lads walked in. After scanning the surroundings, the leader of the group, Ol’ Three, shouted out, “Qin Yu!”
Qin Yu and Old Cat immediately turned their gazes over, and to their bewilderment, they saw Ol’ Three and the other members of Squad 1. Their eyes lit up together as they muttered in amazement, “Holy shit, a miracle really appeared.”
Ol’ Three was wearing the light green police uniform at the moment. He led the five brothers from the squad over to where Qin Yu was. With a tilted neck and an e-cigarette hanging from his mouth, he berated, “You just joined not long ago but you still have the fucking money to come to a restaurant? Come out with me right now, I’ll…”
“Ol’ Three, are you here for the case?!” Before Qin Yu could respond, Old Cat had already walked forward and gripped the other party’s arm in agitation.
Ol’ Three was utterly dumbstruck, “What case?”
“Didn’t you follow us here?” Old Cat asked doubtfully.
“Yeah. I asked around and heard that he was here.”
“There’s no mistake then! How many people did you bring? Are there brothers from the bureau outside?”
“…!” Ol’ Three was getting more and more befuddled. “Wait, what the hell are you talking about?”
“You fool! I bumped into it as well! Why are you trying to hide it from me?” Old Cat struck Ol’ Three’s arm as he asked anxiously, “Are you capturing them here, or do we wait till they are outside?”
“No, are we even talking about the same thing here?” Ol’ Three pointed as Qin Yu and said, “I’m here for him.”
Old Cat was stunned. He discreetly pointed at the four men by the counter and asked, “You aren’t here to capture that bunch of people?”
“Capture them? What’s up with them?”
“Wow, it really is a coincidence then.” With sweat dripping down his cheeks, Old Cat began explaining with a hushed voice, “Those four men over there have kidnapped a young lady, and we happened to bump into it. Qin Yu and I were discussing what to do when you lot arrived… Alright, let’s cut the nonsense and pin them down right here. We got enough people on our side now.”
“???” Ol’ Three was still utterly confused. There was a stifled look on his face for a long while as he stuttered, “The hell. I… I… You… I am here for Qin Yu!”
“Isn’t Second Sis’ store in your Squad 1’s area? Why the heck are you still talking about Qin Yu now?!” Old Cat cursed. “Hurry up and think about how you want to capture them.”
“I… Think your ass! I’m not prepared for this!” Ol’ Three felt exasperated beyond words. He glanced at the four men once more and said, “I don’t even know what the four of them do!”
Those four men had already noticed Ol’ Three and the others as soon as they entered the restaurant. They were wearing police uniforms, and they proceeded straight to where Old Cat and Qin Yu were seated and started talking to them. This made them feel a little unnerved.
The four of them swiftly traded glances before squeezing the young lady in between them and hurriedly began walking out of the restaurant together.
“Stop talking crap and think of something. At least give us a plan or something!” Old Cat’s heart was thumping nervously as he urged Ol’ Three anxiously.
Ol’ Three took a step back to distance himself from the overly agitated Old Cat as he protested, “You are the ones who bumped into them, the hell am I the one to come up with a plan?”
“You are the carry here! Us two have nothing on us.”
“Carry my ass!” Ol’ Three was sweating profusely. He turned to the brothers who had come in with him and said, “We can’t look away after seeing something like this… Old Cat is a dumbass, he’ll snitch on us if we turn a blind eye to this.”
“What do we do?”
“Xiao Hu, get our squad members to spread out a little,” Ol’ Three began issuing instructions. “Guo-er, go up to them and conduct an identity check. Ask them to show their visas. If they don’t have it, ask them for their proof of entry into the Special District… If it looks like they are going try something, don’t hesitate to shoot them.”
“Third Brother, you want me to check on them,” the young lad named Guo-er looked as if the world had collapsed on him. “Why don’t you get Old Cat to go instead?”
“They aren’t equipped. You go.”
“… Shit! This damned luck of mine…” Guo-er cursed beneath his breath as he bucked up his courage and walked over to block the way of those four men. “Black Street Policeman. Show me your visa.”
Those four immediately halted their footsteps after hearing those words. They silently glanced over to look at Ol’ Three and the others.
The young lady surrounded by the four men was perspiring a lot despite the cold weather. Her fists were tightly clenched together.
“I’m talking to you. Show me your visas,” Guo-er repeated again.
“We are here to deliver goods into the Special District,” the short middle-aged man said with a deep voice. “We don’t have visas.”
“Then show me your proof of entry,” Guo-er stretched out his hand and said.
“Alright,” the short middle-aged man reached out for his pants’ pocket.
Ol’ Three was also an experienced veteran in the field. He glanced at their dress up and subconsciously took a step back. His right hand moved casually to his back, as if he was going to scratch himself, but his true intention was to grab his gun.
As soon as the short middle-aged man’s hand slipped into his pants, the young lady released a piercing shriek, “Save me, they have kidnapped me!”
“Don’t move!”
Right after those words were said, a companion beside the short middle-aged man flung his sleeves to reveal a T-34 military-grade grenade in his right hand, and he roared, “I have already pulled out the pin. Move and you will all die.”
“AHH!!!”
The restaurant immediately flew into a state of chaos. The customers eating inside grabbed their heads in panic and began scattering all around.
The short middle-aged man grabbed the young lady and instructed his companions calmly, “Cover me. I’ll escape through the back door.”
Meanwhile, with his right hand on his holster, Ol’ Three pointed to the person holding the grenade and shouted, “Calm down and take a deep breath, bro. We can talk things out. If that thing explodes in here, you won’t get out safely either.”
Bang!
Right after he said those words, Old Cat suddenly rose up to grab a wine bottle from the table, and he smashed it right down toward the grenade holding middle-aged man’s head.
Sou!
The middle-aged man took a step back. With a vicious look on his face, he unhesitatingly threw the grenade toward the crowd.
Qin Yu immediately rushed forward to grab Old Cat by his collar and pulled him back several steps.
Boom!
A deafening explosion sounded. A huge depression formed on the flat ground, and countless brick fragments flew across the air. Two tables were blasted into wooden shreds, and three policemen, injured by the shrapnel and the blasted object bits, fell to the ground.
Crouching on the ground, Old Cat shouted loudly, “Take cover and shoot that grenade asshole!”
Bang bang!
Two gunshots echoed in the air.
Ol’ Three was just about to climb up when a layer of blood swiftly spread on his bottom, and he suddenly collapsed back to the ground again.
