Arioch's tone of voice was odd for her. She didn't like it. It had a sinister undertone to it.
She didn't like Maximus' conceited voice either. He was so sure of getting the sword. And so does Arioch.
Maximus wants the sword for unknown reasons and Arioch wants the sword for the people.
She knows which side she should take. And she knows what her decision should be.
The two men who were connected to her past life are trying to get the sword all for their own reasons. Through all this, she could see one thing.
[I have only myself to rely on!]
Her heart hurt a lot realizing the truth, but she had to get that point across. It would be for her best not to trust anyone. She might have known them the previous life. But they are not the same. She shouldn't be the same too.
Pretending that she didn't hear any of it, she returned to the room.
She waited for Arioch inside the room. After a short while, Arioch returned.
"I have decided Arioch..." She looked at him with determination. "Take me to Mount Begida. I will take the sword."
Arioch's face relaxed and he smiled with relief. She smiled back and she could see that this is not the smile of Tubby.
"I will," he hugged her without caring about her consent.
And his smile turned sinister as her view is obscured. Her smile turned wry and filled with disappointment.
She could sense that nothing is plain black and white. Something happened in their pervious life which she is forgetting that turned both men to someone unrecognizable. The best she could do is to take on her responsibility.
After she agreed to take the sword, Arioch didn't waste time. He prepared for the journey almost immediately.
"It would take at least a couple of days if our journey is smooth," he said packing food for their journey.
Alexandra stood by the side and watched the enthusiasm in Arioch's face. Seeing Tubby's happy face always brings her joy. But this time, along with joy, there was a certain dark feeling rising from the bottom of her heart.
"Have you tried summoning your beasts this time, Alexandra?" he asked after finishing his packing.
"Should I try and summon them?" she asked back.
She didn't want to tell him the truth. She was too frustrated with everyone and she didn't like to believe anyone. Maximus knows that she called Kefir, but she hid it from Arioch.
Arioch thought for a while. And then he shook his head.
"Maybe we can keep it under wraps and use it as a surprise tactic against the Brute's men..." he said and Alexandra pressed her lips.
Tubby used to say the other side also are humans and this time he forgot that it seems. He says Maximus is a cruel warlord who made widows out of women and orphans out of children, but wouldn't a war against Maximus do the same?
Maximus cannot be touched easily and his men would die to protect him. And what would that war achieve?
Except...
And for Arioch to be this sure, she thought that he should be having other plans too. He wouldn't be depending on one person for his plans to succeed.
"Have you tried talking with Maximus, Arioch?" she asked. That should have been the first step.
Arioch turned at her and stared at her for a moment.
"Are you regretting your decision to help us, Alexandra? After seeing all the hurt he caused, are you still trying to advocate for him? Is it his face? Do you think he'd have cared a bit for you if not for who you are? And do you think he'd give you the throne this time around? Fool!" he knitted his brows and aggressively took a step forward.
Alexandra shook her head. She doesn't like aggressiveness. "You've changed, Tubby," she said and tried to walk out of the room.
"Stop!" Arioch blocked her.
"Give way, Arioch," she glared at him. "I will not let anyone talk to me this way! Even you!" she said in a stern tone.
If everyone wants her sword, and her help, the least they could do is to treat her with respect.
Respect - Something she didn't think was very important in her past life. But she didn't want to be the same this time.
"I am sorry..." Arioch bowed his head and seeing his meek state, Alexandra's heart melted.
"He's hurt me a lot, Alexandra. I was displacing my anger towards him on you. You should understand... I regret a lot but I would never regret my decision to go against that monster. And... I need you, Alexandra... And I have only you... I'm all alone and...."
He leaned on her shoulder and Alexandra patted his head. She felt her heart melting hearing those heartfelt words from him.
"Lie on the bed for sometime. Our journey won't be very comfortable and we won't have a proper rest," Arioch spoke in a soft voice before leaving the room.
Alexandra went to the bed and stared at the muddy ceiling for some time.
Arioch left the room and fisted his hands. The nerves on his throat popped out and started to get twitching out of anger.
"You still have a chance to finish her off now. I could make it seem like a poisoning," the figure clad in darkness spoke in an eerie voice and even the ants that were walking in a line scattered away not being able to bear the evilness exuded by that dark figure.
"No!" Arioch refused him. "I still need her to talk to the Uilaeg Elves. Don't you know my plan?" he looked at the dark figure and the dark figure chortled.
"As you wish, Emperor of the Realm...!"
-----
"Will you be able to make his journey?" The lovely voice clear and sweet as that of honey made Elrich's lips curve up.
He leaned closer to the bright face of his wife. He didn't know whether it was the bright rays of the sun, or was it her getting shy, but her face got flushed. He found that amusing.
After he got that punishment, his wife never left his side and took care of him. From applying medicines to make sure he is getting washed and fed, she took care of it all.
"You're the doctor. You tell me!" he pulled her closer by wrapping his hand around her waist.
She tried to struggle out of his grasp but she couldn't. The little drops of perspiration forming on her forehead that glistened in the morning sun gave an erotic sheen to her already pretty face.
"I would stay under your care for all eternity," he whispered in her ear.
Overwhelming the herbal scent that always lingers around her was a feminine scent that he found to be featured for her alone. That particular scent maddened him in these days she looked after him.
"You appear to be strong. I see no reason for you to not go in this belligerent journey." Pricilla said pushing away his face that is getting dangerously close to hers.
"Belligerent journey? Maybe I should stay home with you," Elrich reached for her lips.
The cold morning breeze and her mesmerizing scent made his rationality disappear and he wanted to embrace her.
But a loud horn beckoning them for their journey made his senses return. He stood straight but hen he couldn't let go of the curly locks of his wife. In his rough fingertips, slipped her curly locks. Grabbing the tip of her hair, he kissed it.
"Pray for my safe return, wife," he said.
"Am I?" she asked. "Your wife..?"
"Are you not?" he asked, confused.
He thought everything between them is improving in these few days. He thought she is accepting him as her husband. But it seems like she was doing her part as a doctor.
His heart hurt.
"Elrich!"
One of his companions called him and he walked away. Pricilla's eyes clouded with tears. She could see the surprise in his eyes but she couldn't get off the lock of hair he still keeps safe.
If it is important for him to keep safe for this long, why is it not important for her to know about it?
-----
"Is everyone ready?" Maximus, sitting on the horse, asked Julius.
"Yes, Sire," Julius bowed his head. His eyes ended up at his wife standing under the tree with tears dripping from her eyes.
He couldn't say for sure whether she is crying for him or for her. Maximus is adamant on going to Mound Begida. But there are many stories circulating among the locals that anyone going near the island would be killed without mercy or return with a curse.
His wife didn't sleep the entire night worrying for the "Kidnapped" little girl. He still wasn't sure if she was kidnapped.
But if everyone is thinking that, and if his Emperor ordered him to, he will have to.
Maximus could sense that his men are not very willing to join him in this journey. But he have to. He tried to talk to Ithildin, but he refused to get near that place guarded by the most powerful dragon there is.
Kefir absconded.
He has no other way.. He will have to bring her back.
