Fake 85: National Monster

It seemed that the corrosive fluid of the myrmecoleon could even dissolve skill attacks. However, it also seemed like it could only be released to the front.

“How about this kind of attack? [Lightning].”

The power of my skill was not strong enough to defeat the myrmecoleon head-on. Even so, I was still able to paralyze the opponent by injuring it with a lightning attack that struck down from above.

“Look here! I am still unscathed. [Lightning].”

I stalled for time by firing [Lightning] until its usable limit at the monster.

“Be destroyed. [Explosion].”

While I was stalling for time, Aoi went around behind the myrmecoleon and activated [Explosion].

“Gaaahhhhh!”

The moment Aoi’s skill hit the myrmecoleon, it let out a roar.
Its splendid mane was completely burned out by Aoi’s attack from behind, making its appearance more like that of a lioness.

“This is the end. Burn and disappear, [Explosion] [Explosion].”

Aoi repeatedly fired even more [Explosion] skills, and the myrmecoleon’s head burst into flames instantly.
With this, the battle is basically over. When I looked at the myrmecoleon with that thought in mind, its giant ant’s body wasn’t burned and was still moving slightly even though the part above its chest was instantly burned out.

“Is it still not dead even after all this? Amazing……”

As it couldn’t attack anymore, it was no longer a threat. Even so, I was frankly surprised by its vitality which hadn’t disappeared even after losing half of its body. As expected of a monster.
After losing its sense of direction, the headless body was about to move in the wrong direction.

“[Voltaic Fire].”

I fired a flame thunder at the inside of the remaining half body from where its head was previously connected.
Although its exoskeleton was highly skill-resistant, I was able to easily destroy its internal parts with my skill.

“We did it.”

“The imp was strong, but this myrmecoleon didn’t lose out to it either. Both had vitalities that were in a different league compared to other monsters.”

“I agree. Even though I’ve never heard of a myrmecoleon appearing in Japan, it was strong.”

“In Japan?”

“Where the myrmecoleons mainly appear should be in Europe. They should have also appeared in Monaco, but this is my first time seeing them appear in Japan.”

“I see. Do monsters even have nationalities? Come to think of it, I feel like I’ve learned something like that at school before.”

“Yes. Although some monsters such as goblins and orcs appear all over the world, there are also monsters that only appear in specific regions.”

“So, this time’s myrmecoleon was a rare monster in a sense?”

“That’s right. However, it is always hard to deal with a monster you’ve seen for the first time. So, it isn’t a good thing, though.”

Albeit with some difficulties, we succeeded in defeating a monster that could be said to be a rare monster in a sense without getting injured. Therefore, I think our performance was good.
Anyway, to think that there would be a monster with the upper body of a lion and the lower body of an ant… There really are all sorts of strange monsters out there.
This is my first time hearing something like monsters having nationalities. In any case, as expected of Aoi, she sure is knowledgeable.
The fact that there are monsters of European origin means that there are monsters of Japanese origin as well. So, there might be youkai-like monsters, although I haven’t seen one yet.
I might encounter them someday if I continue to be a survivor.
